My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic ...

Search Forums:

Now I know Shout Factory has been asked about this before, and has stated that they have no plans at the moment to release the series in proper season sets, and that Hasbro has requested they release the series in themed singles. But I was wondering, if the 1st Single (or however many it takes) sell well enough if Shout Would Consider releasing the show in proper season sets. I know the Brony/Pegasister fanbase may not be as large as it thinks itself to be, but I do belive there is a large enough group of teen/ young adult fans of the show to justify putting it out on DVD in proper season sets.

So yes, I know Shout & Hasbro are probably tired of being hounded about this matter, but I do hope that both companies will reconsider and let the show be released proper.

And yes I know the shows on itunes, but (surprisingly) not everyone has an itunes account, or cares for set service.

P.S. I know shout has no control over this...but ahh...if we are unlikely to get season sets of the show....maybe somebody should talk to Hasbro about putting it up on more Digital Download services, like PlayStation Network and Xbox Live for example.

Please shout release MLP: FIM & TF: Prime in Proper chronological order! PLEASE!!!

RE: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 1 & 2 Boxsets...

Fair enough, but I will point out that if these don't sell, I guarentee that there will never be better sets, or possibly any releases, period. I understand your points, and even agree with them, really, but ultimately, not buying does more harm than good. Personally, I would love to see better sets, but in the meantime, I will buy the product that are made avalable. As for Blu-ray, the reason Shout usually doesn't go that route is because they are still very expensive to manufacture compared to DVD.

RE: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 1 & 2 Boxsets...

That may well be true, but it's also been my experience that buying a product to prove there's a viable market for it to a hesitant manufacturer doesn't always work as one might expect, either.  Particularly for this, I'm very doubtful that Shout Factory will ever be convinced, to their satisfaction, that Blu-Ray and DVD season sets for this show will sell.  Girl's programming is treated notoriously badly on home video formats, and is consistently undervalued and underestimated.  This is hardly the only area in which older fans of the new MLP series woud like better merchandise, only to find that the potential supplier of said merchandise (in most other cases, Hasbro themselves) are unwilling to expand into that area.

While I may buy the Friendship Express if I happen to see it in a brick & mortar store somewhere, for me this isn't worth buying online or seeking out intentionally.  Especially with the potential for getting a copy with the audio sync issue, and having to go through the hassle of contacting Shout Factory, sending it back, and waiting for a replacement.  It's bad enough they created a substandard release for the show; but screwing up such a minor point and necessitating the customer go through that extra hassle is just further disincentive for buying it.

This release offers absolutely nothing I can't from iTunes, for less per episode and at significantly higher resolutions.  Not even for the unedited Derpy episode, which I have and will have forever in 720p.  Now if Shout Factory issues the episodes on Blu-Ray, they'll make me a customer.  iTunes 1080p files aren't nearly as high bitrate as is allowed by a disc format like Blu-Ray.  But otherwise, it appears that they can do without much of my money.  I think it's a shame, because I'd much rather have a season boxset than a collection of iTunes episodes (especially with the color issues in Season 1 on iTunes, which are a pain to adjust), however ultimately I'm going to go with the method that allows me to watch the show in the highest resolution possible.  If Shout Factory wants to compete, it's a Blu-Ray set or nothing.  I'm past the point, as a consumer, where I'm willing to buy substandard products in the hope that at some later date the manufacturer will come to their senses and do the job properly.

RE: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 1 & 2 Boxsets...

I understand your frustration, but in my experience, not buying a product just to "prove a point" never works, and in some cases, even backfires. If you really want a proper season set, then you should purchase this and any future volumes, as sales (money) is what ultimately speaks the loudest to these businesses. Low sales for official products like this only sends the message that this show isn't worth dealing with.

RE: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 1 & 2 Boxsets...

This is what I'm waiting for, as well; but only on Blu-Ray.  The Friendship Express DVD doesn't hold any appeal for me.  Aside from not even being a complete season set, the episodes are available on iTunes at a higher resolution; as of recently even at 1080p, albeit at a much lower bitrate than Blu-Ray would afford.

TF:Prime recently got a release on Blu-Ray, and I happily bought that.  But I wont' be buying any Shout Factory MLP:FiM releases (particularly not Friendship Express, with its audio issues and random assortment of a few episodes) unless the show gets a proper release in a full season boxset, which is the only acceptable way to release any television series.

RE: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 1 & 2 Boxsets...

Yeah, I'd love to see that Sonic movie on DVD. And yeah, Invader Zim was frickin' awesome, but I already have the whole series on DVD. As for Sonic X, I also have that, but I'd really like to see a re-dub after 4Kids'  butchering. As for the topic, the only problem MLP:FIM has is that it is confined to a premium channel, and Hasbro really sucks at marketing anything on it(not just MLP). For instance, I still see far more stuff in stores for Transformers: Dark of the Moon than Transformers: Prime, and a surprising number of people I've talked to don't even know the Hub exists, much less what's on it. Perhaps I'm getting ahead of myself, but I strongly believe that if Hasbro would push this show more, we would have a cultural phenomenom the likes of Star Wars/Star Trek/Transformers.

RE: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 1 & 2 Boxsets...

SOnic Has nothing to do with this...don't get me wrong I love the little blue hedgehog, but yeah. And I would disagree 4kids release Sonic X Multiple times, and they still show reruns on the CW. I'd rather Shout Factory try to acquire the Sonic The Hedgehog Movie/OVA. It hasnt had a release since 03.

But yeah back on topic, hopefully the MLP single will sell well enough for them to consider season sets. And seriously Hasbro should put the show on more Digital Download services.

Please Shout Factory, Release My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic Season Sets!

RE: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 1 & 2 Boxsets...

Well, if they can't do that, then maybe there are OTHER alternatives, like for the older fans, MLP Classic and MLP Tales. Or if you still have 4Kids stuff to do, DO SONIC X in Season Sets! FUNimation lost those rights, Shout Factory can STILL do Sonic right, only it'll be Sonic X, and maybe add in an interview with Mike Pollock, the voice of Dr. Eggman and Dr. Robotnik (Nobody calls me THAT anymore!)!

RE: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 1 & 2 Boxsets...

I agree, I don't think Hasbro has a full grasp of how many young adult & teen males & females have fallen in love with this show. Given they are obviously slowly opening up to our Demo with the upcoming TRU exclusive sets that feature characters like DJ Pon3, Nightmare Moon & Trixie (as you said.) But it would be nice for them to realize that the fan base is big enough to justify letting Shout Factory release season sets. And again hopefully the current single will sell well enough to convince Shout Factory & Hasbro to say "Hey, maybe we should sell season sets for the older demo after all." I mean the week it came out it was #15 on the top 100 DVD's and #6 in Kids & Family, thats pretty dang impressive if you ask me.

I mean I can understand that Hasbro is still unsure how to handle it, and they may still find the new demo odd, but honestly, once you get past gender stereotypes and misconceptions about what a franchise is and isn't capable off, I think they should be able to see why this new demo has formed.

I mean yeah, if you told me 5 years ago My Little Pony would be my favorite cartoon i'd call you an idiot. But it happened, and i'm glad it did. Mrs. Faust, Rob Renzzetti & the rest of the MLP:FIM team has done a great job of taking a B-level franchise for little girls and turning it into a A grade animated series that can be enjoyed by men & women both young and old, and i'm glad they did, I genuinely haven't enjoyed a cartoon this much since Invader Zim! (talk about radically different content, lol.)

But yeah, really hope they reconsider I would love to have proper season sets of the show, especially for Season 2, its just been....SPECTACULAR!!!

Please shout release MLP: FIM & TF: Prime in Proper chronological order! PLEASE!!!

RE: My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic Season 1 & 2 Boxsets...

To be honest, I feel like the business side of this sorely underestimates the size of this particular fanbase. Personally, there is no doubt in my mind that there is more than enough to make box sets worth it. I say this because everywhere you go on the internet, you see ponies practially everywhere, and you need only take a look at the number of hits blog sites like Equestria Daily get in just a single day. Further proof is this fall's toy line, with many toys aimed at us ( like the Vinyl/DJ toy, as I'm pretty sure the little girls don't care about a character that has about 5 seconds of screentime).
