  5. Dizzy Gillespie: 1937-1992

John Birks "Dizzy" Gillespie was one of the founding fathers of be-bop. He was also one of the first to fuse be-bop, R&B and swing in his own big band (which launched the careers of many musicians), and pioneered Latin jazz with "Manteca," which is usually cited as the first Latin jazz recording. He went on to become an elder statesman of jazz, touring the world on behalf of the United States government and the United Nations. Throughout his career, he was the epitome of jazz creativity, style and humor, as Career: 1937-1992 illustrates. This 2-CD set provides a complete overview of his entire career.
