PART TIME INTERNSHIP: Sales/Ecommerce Department

Shout! Factory is searching for a Sales Intern for fall 2017.  This position will support the sales and digital commerce department. Work will include support for traditional and nontraditional physical goods sales and Shout! Factory’s growing digital commerce. An intern in this department will gain exposure to website customer service, logistics and fulfillment of our Direct to Consumer (DTC) ecommerce sales. The department frequently works with the finance and marketing departments internally.

 

Who are you? You are detail oriented, enthusiastic, highly organized and have excellent computer skills. You have outstanding communication skills – both written and verbal. You are a roll-up your sleeves kind of person who is interested in working in a small, progressive entertainment company.

 

Reports to:                 VP Sales/ecommerce

Exemption Status:     Non-Exempt

Rate:                          $12/hour 2 to 2-1/2 days a week (negotiable)

Paid Time Off:            24 hours of sick leave provided

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Updating the DCL efactory database with additional data; must have an ability to learn how to navigate the backend of a website
  • Manage various Excel documents; must understand how to enter data into Excel, move data around (filter), add and delete columns/rows without errors
  • Monitoring and testing the new website (QC and proofing)
  • Entering data in FilmTrack (rights management system); ie. adding awards information into each product profile using various sources
  • Limited administrative tasks including large mailings

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to take direction and work well with others is required
  • Excellent verbal/written communications, organizational and interpersonal skills is required
  • A high proficiency in Microsoft Office programs, especially Excel is required
  • Experience with mail merges is preferred
  • Strong interest and appreciation for entertainment and pop culture is preferred

PART TIME INTERNSHIP: Publicity Department

Shout! Factory is searching for a Publicity Intern for fall 2017.   The publicity department is a four person, busy team giving an intern ample opportunity to get hands-on experience in all areas of entertainment publicity.  A successful candidate is extremely organized, proactive, and assertive; additionally, he/she will also have a strong interest in developing a career in entertainment publicity. 

 

Reports to:                 Publicity Coordinator

Exemption Status:     Non-Exempt

Rate:                          $12/hour 2 to 2-1/2 days a week (negotiable); up to 3 months

Paid Time Off:            24 hours of sick leave

 

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Compile press clips
  • Research new outlets and contacts
  • Assist in updating/maintaining press contact database
  • Complete press mailings
  • Re-organize the publicity product cabinet
  • Assist with writing press materials
  • Assist with maintaining online press room

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Knowledge of home entertainment industry and platforms is a plus;
  • Previous internship experience in publicity is preferred;
  • A major in public relations or communications preferred;
  • Experience with FileMaker Pro, Cision, and mail merges is preferred;

VP TV Development

We are seeking to fill a VP TV Development. This position will accelerate our evolution from being a distributor of primarily library and licensed film and TV content into a leading independent producer and distributor of original content.  The position will be focused on developing and producing scripted series for broadcast, cable, streaming and emerging platforms, with an emphasis on comedy, a Shout! Factory legacy.

Factory. This position reports directly to the President.

Principle Responsibilities:

  • Work with management to develop an overall strategy and focus to differentiate SF as a content provider in a crowded marketplace.
  • Take a leadership role in corralling the considerable resources of SF to help grow this area.
  • Be a rainmaker - initiate and build relationships with the creative community and the best available creative talent in order to source new projects.  Attract outstanding talent to the company, both new and experienced.
  • Identify pop culture IP that can be developed into TV series.
  • Look for existing film and TV properties that have fans and can be rebooted.
  • Cultivate relationships with writers and show runners to develop ideas.
  • Cultivate relationships with third party production companies to partner with.
  • Read and develop screenplays.
  • Create formats.
  • Create pitch material, including written treatments and sizzle reels.
  • Pitch and sell shows to linear, digital and emerging platforms.

Qualifications:

  • Experience developing scripted TV programming that has achieved ratings success.
  • Wide knowledge of and established relationships with TV and film producers, writers, agents, managers, show-runners and network and studio executives.
  • Extensive knowledge of the broadcast, cable and streaming TV competitive landscape.
  • Up to date knowledge on the current and emerging digital video ecosystem.
  • Experience with establishing and managing production budgets.
  • Minimum 10 years of development experience in scripted TV with experience in comedy required.

Sr. Staff Accountant

We are seeking a Sr. Staff Accountant to join our accounting team. This position will work closely with the others in the department, including royalty and finance.  With educational and hands-on experience, this position will manage all areas of accounting functions such as A/R, A/P, Inventory and general accounting.  To be successful in this role, the candidate must have a solid foundation in basic accounting principles and concepts. Additionally this position demands someone who has the willingness to take full ownership of the responsibilities listed below with accuracy. Other factors that will contribute to the success of someone in this role are a positive and enthusiastic attitude, ability to work in a fast-paced environment and the ability to hit the ground running very quickly.

Exemption Status: Exempt

Responsibilities:

  • Daily inventory receipt, build, and transfer in the accounting system
  • Timely month, quarter and year-end adjusting and closing journal entries in NetSuite
  • Timely and accurate monthly balance sheet reconciliations
  • Timely filing of sales and use tax to various states
  • Preparation and reconciliation of various reports from distributors foreign and domestic (such as Cinedigm, Universal Pictures US and Canada, Universal Music US, and MapleCore Canada) including sales, inventory, co-op ads, and the monthly statement.
  • Assists in provision of work papers to the outside auditors for the annual audit and tax filing
  • Accurate 1099 annual reporting
  • Assists in the documentation and update of business processes and accounting policies to maintain and strengthen internal controls
  • Maintains and reconciles the subsidiary ledgers (A/R, A/P and Inventory) to the general ledger

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or like field
  • 5+ Hands-on experience in the entertainment industry, product distribution and online sales
  • At least 5 years job experience as a Staff Accountant
  • Advance Excel 2010 user
  • Experience in top-tier accounting software, like NetSuite
  • CPA preferred but not required
