Shout! Studios Acquires North American Rights To Colin West’s SXSW Narrative Feature “LINOLEUM”

Starring Jim Gaffigan and Rhea Seehorn

Shout! Studios, the multi-platform entertainment distribution and production arm of Shout! Factory, has acquired North American rights to the sci-fi comedy-drama LINOLEUM from Sub_Sequential Picture, following a competitive bidding situation. The announcement comes on the heels of the film’s successful world premiere at this year’s SXSW Film Festival and its Sloan Science on Screen Award win at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

Written and directed by Colin West (Double Walker), Jim Gaffigan (Grammy-nominated stand-up comedian, The Jim Gaffigan Show, upcoming Peter Pan & Wendy) and Rhea Seehorn (Better Call Saul, Veep) lead an impressive cast that includes Katelyn Nacon (The Walking Dead, [email protected]), Gabriel Rush (Moonrise Kingdom, The Grand Budapest Hotel), Amy Hargreaves (Homeland, 13 Reasons Why), Roger Hendricks Simon (Love in Kilnerry, The Sublet), Elizabeth Henry (The Sisterhood of Night, Behind the Mirror), West Duchovny (A Mouthful of Air, The Report) with Michael Ian Black (Wet Hot American Summer, The State), and Tony Shalhoub (Monk, The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel). LINOLEUM is produced by Dennis Masel and executive produced by Gabrielle Nadig of Storm City Films, produced by Chad Simpson of Brain Scratch Productions, and Chadd Harbold.

LINOLEUM is a profoundly personal and inventive story that weaves life-altering generational moments into a cosmic tapestry of human experiences. The film received critical praises out of SXSW, with Deadline’s Pete Hammond calling it “an emotional adventure of the mind” while IGN’s Matt Donato praised director Colin West for “plucks heartstrings that inspire our zest for lives lived to the fullest, creating something outstandingly emotional.”

Shout! Studios has secured all distribution rights in North America to LINOLEUM, including theatrical, digital, video-on-demand, broadcast, and home entertainment for cross-platform releases. Shout! Studios plans a strategic launch of this movie across all major entertainment platforms, beginning with a theatrical launch later this year.

“Jim Gaffigan delivers a sensational, versatile performance in Colin’s wonderfully offbeat story about dreams, connection and alternate realities.  Linoleum is one of those singular gems that gets fervently recommended to friends and family for years and years, and we’re eager to do everything we can to help make that happen,” said Shout’s Vice President of Acquisitions, Jordan Fields.

Colin West stated: “Linoleum, while on the outside looking like a sci-fi sprinkled suburban drama, is at its core a love story – and Shout was able to see our vision in that. The whole team, who worked so hard to make this film come to life, is thrilled to be working with them to get our film out to as many eyeballs as possible.”

The movie deal was negotiated by UTA Independent Film Group for Storm City Films and filmmakers, and Shout’s Jordan Fields, Vice President of Acquisitions and Steven Katz, Vice President of Business Affairs.

LINOLEUM | Movie Synopsis

Cameron Edwin (Jim Gaffigan), the host of a failing children’s science TV show called “Above & Beyond”, has always had aspirations of being an astronaut. After a mysterious space-race era satellite coincidentally falls from space and lands in his backyard, his midlife crisis manifests in a plan to rebuild the machine into his dream rocket. As his relationship with his wife (Rhea Seehorn) and daughter (Katelyn Nacon) start to strain, surreal events begin unfolding around him – a doppelgänger moving into the house next door, a car falling from the sky, and an unusual teenage boy forging a friendship with him. He slowly starts to piece these events together to ultimately reveal that there’s more to his life story than he once thought.
