Los Angeles, CA – Shout! Factory and Dick Clark Productions today announced a multi-year, multi-property alliance to bring the legendary The T.A.M.I Show (The Teenage Awards Music International) and the Golden Globe nominated made-for-television feature Elvis, starring Kurt Russell, to the home entertainment marketplace. The announcement was made today by Shout! Factory founding partners Richard Foos, Bob Emmer and Garson Foos and Dick Clark productions president Orly Adelson.
Under its agreement with Dick Clark Productions, Shout! Factory will be the exclusive U.S. and Canada home entertainment distributor for The T.A.M. I. Show and Elvis.
"Many film and television properties from Dick Clark have been part of the American cultural fabric. What an honor and thrill it is for Shout! Factory to be working closely with Dick Clark Productions on these projects," said Bob Emmer, COO and founding partner, Shout! Factory.
“We’ve wanted to release The T.A.M.I. Show since we started in the business 30 years ago. It’s arguably the ultimate early Rock’n Roll concert program with amazing performances by numerous Rock and Soul legends. We’ve also had our eyes on Elvis for many years. It’s the best Elvis bio film to date. The Kurt Russell-John Carpenter combination yielded amazing results with a very challenging subject.” states Shout! Factory founding partners.
“The T.A.M.I Show and Elvis feature quintessentially define historical moments in both pop music and pop history,” stated dick clark productions president Orly Adelson. “We are thrilled to collaborate with Shout! Factory to make these programs available on DVD for the first time ever.”
The 1964 feature film The T.A. M. I. Show captured the Rolling Stones (with the late Brian Jones), James Brown & The Famous Flames, the late Marvin Gaye, the Beach Boys (with leader Brian Wilson), Chuck Berry, the Supremes (with Diana Ross), and the Miracles (with Smokey Robinson) performing live at the Santa Monica Civic Auditorium on 1964. These future Rock and Roll Hall of Famers were joined by Lesley Gore, “British Invasion” acts Gerry & The Pacemakers and Billy J. Kramer & The Dakotas, now-cult garage rockers the Barbarians, and Jan & Dean. Also seen on screen, the late great producer, film composer Jack Nitzsche, solo artists Glen Campbell and Leon Russell, among many music artists.
Directed by John Carpenter, the biopic of Elvis Presley stars Kurt Russell, who received an Outstanding Lead Actor Emmy nomination for his incandescent performances as the King of Rock’N’Roll. The film features ‘70s Country hitmaker Ronnie McDowell whom recreated Presley’s signature vocals. Tracing Presley’s life from his impoverished childhood to his meteoric rise to stardom to his triumphant return to Las Vegas, this film co-stars Shelly Winters as Elvis’ mother, Gladys; Season Hubley as his wife, Priscilla; and Bing Russell (Kurt’s real-life father) as his father, Vernon Presley. Pat Hingle plays Colonel Tom Parker.
Shout! Factory plans an aggressive rollout of these two film properties on DVD in 2010 utilizing the same sales and marketing strengths that has made them one of the leading independent studios in the home entertainment industry.
