SHOUT! FACTORY’S SOLOMON BURKE & MICKEY HART RECEIVE 2008 GRAMMY® NOMINATIONS: 12/4/2008

Shout! Factory is pleased to announce that music legends Solomon Burke and Mickey Hart have each received Grammy® nominations as announced by The Recording Academy.

Solomon Burke’s Like A Fire has been nominated for Best Contemporary Blues Album, and, Mickey Hart and Zakir Hussain’s Global Drum Project has been nominated for Best Contemporary World Music Album.

Solomon Burke’s highly personal new album Like A Fire features songs based on Burke’s reflections on life, and his concern for the state of the world. A spare, honest and emotionally raw album, Like A Fire was produced by Grammy®-winning master drummer Steve Jordan. Burke’s influence as an artist has long reached across generations, as is evident here on this soulful new project featuring songs written specifically for the album by an all-star team of songwriters, including Eric Clapton, who penned two songs, and Ben Harper, Jesse Harris, and Keb’ Mo’, who also appear on the album.

Burke has had a long, illustrious career which includes a Best Contemporary Blues Album Grammy® award for his 2002 album Don’t Give Up On Me, and an induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2001. Like A Fire is Burke’s third recording for Shout! Factory, following 2006’s Nashville, which featured the Grammy®-nominated track "Tomorrow Is Forever" with Dolly Parton, and 2005’s Grammy®-nominated Make Do With What You Got.

Global Drum Project, a fresh collaboration of tranced-out grooves, elegant electronic programming and hypnotic tuned percussion, was a return to collaboration between Mickey Hart and Indian tabla virtuoso Zakir Hussain, who won the first-ever Grammy® for Best World Music Album for their 1991 release Planet Drum.

Over three decades as the innovative percussion engine of the Grateful Dead, Hart's ear for global sounds brought numerous unpredictable guests to the Dead's stage performances. Hussain is an international phenomenon in his own right, who began his career as a child prodigy, founded his own record label, Moment! Records, and starred in two documentaries.

Masterfully produced by Hart and Hussain, the Global Drum Project once again enlists the great partnership of Sikuru Adepoju (Nigerian talking drum) and Giovanni Hidalgo (congas), as well as Taufiq Qureshi (brother to Zakir Hussain) on percussion & vocals, Niladari Kumar on sitar, Dilshad Khan on sarangi, and sampled vocals by the late, great Olatunji.

In addition to the Global Drum Project, Shout! Factory has also reissued a series of catalog titles, including the Grammy®-winning Planet Drum, Diga Rhythm Band, At The Edge, Mystery Box, and Supralingua.
