GET READY, HERE COME...THE '70's: 7/5/2007

Los Angeles, CA - The highs, the lows and everything in-between: The ’70s had it all, including a soundtrack perfectly equipped to handle each and every mood (ring). It’s a soundtrack captured in all its glory on Get Ready, Here Come … The ’70s—the Me Decade, packed onto multiple CDs, which will be released on Shout! Factory on August 14, 2007.

On the heavy side of the sonic spectrum, we had songs like “Love Train,” courtesy of Philly soul’s finest, the O’Jays. Pulled from their greatest moment on wax, 1972’s Back Stabbers, this cut represents all that was good and righteous about ’70s soul. Then there was Jim Croce’s “Time In A Bottle,” a ballad written for his newborn son that assumed heartbreaking irony when it catapulted to #1 two months after Croce’s tragic death. Meanwhile, Harry Chapin managed to make men everywhere claim that they had something in their eye with “Cat’s In The Cradle,” the story-song of a father and son whose very lives make them absolute strangers.

KC & The Sunshine Band told us to “do a little dance, make a little love, get down tonight,” while disco-soul powerhouses the Trammps busily torched dance floors from coast to coast with “Disco Inferno.” And let’s not forget Hues Corporation’s “Rock The Boat” and the Emotions’ “Best Of My Love,” which kept those floors piping-hot, long after the fire marshal was gone. Naturally, there’s the seductive “Midnight At The Oasis,” and how could we forget the Isley Brothers’ “That Lady (Parts 1 & 2)”?

If one decade had it all, it was the ’70s, and if one box set brings that decade to your stereo as it needs to be brought, it’s Get Ready, Here Come The ’70s. Now, grab your headphones, take a seat in the egg chair, press play, and dig.
