Los Angeles, CA – A deluxe, expanded reissue of Johnny Rivers’ uncut live performance recording Last Boogie in Paris, will be released July 31 through Shout! Factory. Produced by Johnny Rivers, the album captures a 1973 concert at the Olympia Theatre in Paris, France, at the end of a European tour. “We decided to record this finale, since this particular band wouldn’t likely perform again. I felt it was necessary to document these great musicians playing real rock ‘n’ roll and blues,” said Rivers.
Made up of accomplished studio musicians, the L.A. Boogie Band also backed Rivers during the recording of his Blue Suede Shoes album. The band consists of Jim Gordon on drums, Jack Conrad on bass, Dean Parks on guitar, Jim Horn and Chuck Findley on sax and trumpet, Michael Melvoin on keyboard, and Herb Pederson on guitar and harmony vocals.
As previous releases featured only 8 songs from the concert, this is the first time all the songs from the performance have been released in full. Last Boogie in Paris: The Complete Concert was remastered from the original multi-track analog tapes. The album features Rivers’ hits “Summer Rain” and “Stories to a Child,” as well as many other well-known songs, including “Sea Cruise,” “Blue Suede Shoes,” “Baby I Need Your Lovin’,” and “Brown Eyed Girl.”
Born in New York and raised in Baton Rouge, LA, Rivers was one of the most successful solo acts of the 1960s, and his legacy is one of consistency and versatility. Secret Agent Man: The Ultimate Johnny Rivers Anthology is also available on Shout! Factory.
