LOS ANGELES, CA –Shout! Factory continues a reissue campaign of a decade’s worth of music from John Lee Hooker with The Best Of Friends, in stores April 3, 2007. The album includes a previously unreleased studio outtake, and new liner notes by Rolling Stone journalist Jas Obrecht.
The Best of Friends is a compilation of duets Hooker recorded over the years. The album features hits like "I'm In The Mood,” a collaboration with Bonnie Raitt that earned both artists their first Grammy® award in 1989, and “Don't Look Back” with Van Morrison which earned them a shared Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. The album’s guest stars include Robert Cray, Ben Harper, Los Lobos, and Carlos Santana. The bonus track included on this reissue is “Up And Down.”
Four-time Grammy® winner John Lee Hooker was born in Clarksdale, Mississippi in 1917. He first gained national attention in 1948, when he recorded “Boogie Chillen’,” which stormed its way to #1 on the R&B charts. Hooker’s career continued with many more successful albums and singles including “I Love You Honey,” “No Shoes” and “Boom Boom,” the latter of which spent time on the Billboard pop chart as well as the R&B chart. Hooker was a true blues superstar, recording albums with Modern, Chess, MCA, ABC, Fantasy and many other labels. Before his death in 2001, he enjoyed a career renaissance, recording Grammy winning albums and earning induction to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
