Shout! Popcast #23 – Kinky Friedman
Musician, satirist, writer, rabble-rouser, and (more recently) politician, Kinky Friedman is renowned for his potent brand of country music coupled with outrageous, often comedic lyrics that tackle racism and classism in topics ranging from Jewish cowboys to life in Texas.
Between his 2006 bid for Governor of Texas (for which he received 12.6% of the vote), the resulting 60 Minutes piece, and his generally playful attitude towards the stoicism of the traditional country music scene, Kinky has developed as something of a cult hero whose musical career has been steady since 1973.
