Next My Little Pony Release ?

Search Forums:

Any news on the next MLP:FiM release? Looking at Shout!'s release list, I see no release all the way through May. Considering these are just single-discs with just a few episodes, I hope we don't have to wait too long between releases...

RE: Next My Little Pony Release ?

Why are you always trying to pass off your opinion as fact?  The show is getting a complete DVD release in at least 1 other region (would that it were an NTSC region, our need for Shout Factory would be entirely removed!!! Region coding is easy to overcome, but I don't want to watch NTSC content converted to PAL), and will probably get one in others before everything is said and done.  It likely has little to do with Hasbro's decisions, and everything to do with what Shout Factory feels it's worth their while releasing.  Shout Factory has the distribution rights for this show in Region 1; if they cared to, they could release full season sets.

Whether or not they're correct in their belief full season sets (whether on DVD or Blu-Ray) wouldn't sell is up for debate, but I doubt anyone at Shout Factory gave the matter more than 5 minutes thought.  This is a girl's show, and historically girl's shows get very little consideration from people in charge of merchandising or advertising.  Friendship in Magic has bucked that trend in certain respects (mostly advertising, thanks to some forward thinking people at The Hub), but Shout Factory is still clinging to the age-old method of handling properties intended for young female viewers... which is to say, doing next to nothing with it.

I really don't blame retailers for not wanting the first single-disc DVD; I didn't want it, either.  I didn't buy it, and won't buy any future single-disc release.  I have the iTunes release of all episodes thus far in HD; why would I need 480p DVDs when they don't even present episodes in airing order or constitute a complete set?

As far as Netflix goes, yeah, that is an option for Americans.  Everyone else is up the creek without a paddle, though.  There are also those who don't care for streaming (I'm one myself; I prefer actually having something when I shell out money, whether that's physical media or downloaded files that I can archive myself), and of course iTunes is an option for them... but again only for Americans.  I'm in Canada, but I'm over to the US every now and then, and I picked up some US iTunes Store gift cards while I was there once so I could buy the S1 and S2 passes.  But even that's not an option for everyone, unless they want to buy the cards off eBay with a bit of a markup.

It's all Hasbro's idea. You can ask them all you want, but as for me, I'll wait until September, when Season 2 will hit Netflix, eventually.

Besides, the only reason that "The Friendship Express" was released was because of the TOY Train that has Pinkie Pie, the Friendship Express! They're putting the Royal Wedding on DVD, because of the Toys of Cadence and Shining Armor.

RE: Next My Little Pony Release ?

I think Brian has been saying on Twitter that retailers simply don't want it. It does beg the questian, though, of why they can't sell it through Shout! Select. You can check out my argument, if you like, in my thread, which is still toward the top of the thread list and hasn't gotten any responses yet, and I'd  appreciate the bump.

VERY excited about the new DVD!

I have a question to ask, however. Hopefully I'm not beating a dead horse, but could continued (presumably) good sales of these single disc releases warrant a full DVD/Blu-ray set of a season of the show a la Transformers: Prime? From recent toy announcements, it seems that Hasbro now considers "bronies" to be a new, good source of money and such, so why wouldn't they want a season set? Or is the situation completely different?

RE: Next My Little Pony Release ?

Ah, so the other 3 episodes are "Hearts and Hooves Day", "Sweet and Elite", and "Best Night Ever". The latter 2 actually work well in that order, with the line in "Sweet and Elite" mentiong that the Grand Galloping Gala was coming up. I wonder what the extras on this one will be? Could we have the full length "Love is in Bloom" song, or anything else for us bronies?

RE: Next My Little Pony Release ?

I have to say, the Royal Wedding far exceeded my expectations (who would've guessed an invasion!?). I will definately be picking this up, though I hope we don't have any...technical issues with this one. I am dissapointed that it is all the way in August (I was hoping we'd get at least 2 more releases this year, but with the gap between this release and the last one, that seems very unlikely now).

RE: Next My Little Pony Release ?

Who makes these crazy decisions? the first disc includes the first two episodes of season 1, and the second disc will include the last two episodes of season 2!

So fans requests for a better DVD releases are still ignored, and supporting the first disc doesn't seem to have helped at all.

It is no wonder the DVD releases for cartoon series don't get good sales, when companies couldn't care less about how they are released.

RE: Next My Little Pony Release ?

The next MLPFIM DVD is the Royal Pony Wedding! We already know that the Canterlot Wedding Two-Parter will be featured, but what will the other episodes be? And moreover, I think that full length version of "Love is in Bloom" will be one of the bonus features. And we'll probably have profiles of Rainbow Dash, Princess Luna, Cadence, and Shining Armor in there. Maybe keeping in line with the theme of "Love" instead of "The Holidays," we might as well see "Hearts and Hooves Day," "A Friend in Deed," and some other episode.

RE: Next My Little Pony Release ?

Speaking of which, will there also be another Pound Puppies (2010) DVD soon?

RE: Next My Little Pony Release ?

Congratulations Brian, I got your comment featured on Equestria Daily. :P

RE: Next My Little Pony Release ?

Thanks for the info, Brian! I admit, I'm curious about how "The Friendship Express" sold. Was it satisfactory for Shout!/Hasbro? More than expected? Less? I only ask because I know sales determine whether or not you continue to work with a license, and I'd rather not see MLP:FiM get dropped because of low sales, like what I assume happened with Dinosaur King and Viva Pinata.

RE: Next My Little Pony Release ?

We do have plans for a future single-disc release, but no announcement, yet.  You won't have to wait too terribly long, though.  Stuff is always being added to the release schedule.
