Un-MSTied movie news thread...

Search Forums:

Thought maybe it'd be fun to have a thread where we can post when anyone hears news about DVD or Blu-Ray releases of un-MSTied versions of the films of MST3K.  I know people have posted here and there before, but thought it'd be cool to have it all in one place... and to start off, I heard that...

"The Green Slime" is getting the DVD treatment in a newly remastered widescreen anamorphic edition from Warner Bros. on October 26th, and in other news there's gonna be a 45th anniversary edition of "Monster A Go-Go" coming on October 9th from Synergy.  Also, Sony's getting into the "on demand" DVD-R burning thing that the big studios are tossing at us, and one of the films they're offering is "12 to the Moon."

Universal has finally released "The Thing That Couldn't Die" as an MOD title.  I just ordered mine on Amazon, (& I'm still hoping it'll be on the next MST boxed set) and will post how the image looks (it recently aired on TCM and the image was really soft).  I should mention that I picked up a copy of "The Devil's Gift" (see previous post) and boy, does the image **** on that disk.  Like a really bad, washed out old VHS tape.  OH well, still happy to have a copy of it though.

If anyone's interested, and you're a fan of "Merlin's Shop of Mystical Wonders," the part of that movie with the creepy monkey with the cymbals is actually an edited version of a full length film called "The Devils' Gift."  That movie's out on DVD now, on Amazon.  So go forth and pick yourself up a copy, you little Rock 'n Roll Martians, you.

Hey guys - just found out "Fire Maidens from Outer Space" is finally coming out on DVD & Blu-ray on July 30th from Olive Films.

On March 26, Scorpion Releasing is going to put out "Angel's Brigade" hosted by Katarina Leigh Waters (Katarina's Nightmare Theater).  We know the film as "Angels Revenge!"  It'll be remastered in HD.

Hey kids, As a special Halloween/Thanksgiving treat, Kino is releasing the Christmas movie "Santa Claus Conquers the Martians" on blu-ray!  Street date's the 30th of October.

Everything I'm hearing is that the transfer is even better than it should EVER be!

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

bump.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

Unfortunately I'm more likely to believe the state of NY rather than MB. MB laid off 60% of their staff in January 2012, and as an avid Godzilla fan, I've been following the drama around the less than professional treatment of fans Stuart Galbraith & Steve Ryfle who provided commentaries and bonus materials for this release and the release of Destroy All Monsters last fall. It was only after months of repeated calls & e-mails, and finally threats of legal action that they were compensated for their work. Dont get me wrong. MB has released some great Japanese films and Anime over the years, but almost every release is delayed by several months. Their staff now is less than 10 persons total! I just dont see how a company like this can stay in business. I just hope another DVD distributor (hint hint Shout! Factory) is able to pick up the license of their titles.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

Media Blasters posted this on their Facebook page on Friday.  Who knows what to believe, but I swear sometimes it seems like "Godzilla vs. Megalon" has a curse upon it.

Explanation of ANN story.

For all concerned about the ANN story, MB is not out of business or closing down its operation.  What happen was the following.  MB filed extensions for 2009, 10 and 11.  Without notice or us knowing it could happen, the Secretary of State took action.  We have now finished our 2009, 2010 and filing and will get the action reversed.  We already spoke with them.  The company continues to run, continues to release titles.    It seems during the last TAF, our competitors decided to spread this paper around which has made life difficult.

As for the article in ANN, they never contacted us nor even gave us a chance to comment.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

well it lokos like the final nail in Media Blasters coffin has been driven

http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2012-05-04/new-york-lists-media-blasters-as-dissolved-as-of-april-2011

I guess that can happen when you dont pay your taxes. Their facebook page tries to assure fans/consumers that this confusion will be resolved soon and they will go on releasing titles, but based on past experience, I seriously doubt it. Its too bad, I know many fans were looking forward to the first legitimate release of G vs. Megalon for R1 DVD. Oh well. I'm glad I have my R4 from Madman.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

Nice to see a non spam post in here..

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

Another ZAAT update... its up for pre-order on Amazon for the low, low price of $13.99 with a release date of 2/21!!

Putting in my order today!

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

Yeah - I saw that - kinda want a T-Shirt  :^)

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

Zaat's got an online store up now on their website. Stil no official release date for the DVD/Blu combo, but they are still saying "most likely February".

Who knows?

Gotta get myself a Zaat t-shirt though...

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

Just found out VCI has put "Santa Claus" on blu-ray!  Wow!

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

On Media Blasters Facebook page they say they'll update as they get more information.  As of December 3rd they say they're still waiting on Toho approvals.  That's how they've left it for now.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

Huh I heard it got cancelled outright.

Godzilla vs. Megalon keeps getting pushed back, too.  They can't even say anymore when it'll be - apparently Toho's not happy about something or other.

Shout Factory knows how to release televsion, now if only they could release Legends Of the HIdden Temple. One can always dream.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

I know! :^)  I've been keeping track on Facebook, and I can't believe they keep pushing it back!  Godzilla vs. Megalon keeps getting pushed back, too.  They can't even say anymore when it'll be - apparently Toho's not happy about something or other.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

I know I keep saying this... but ZAAT is soon coming out on a Blu-ray/DVD combo pack. Was supposed to come out at the end of December, but they are now saying it won't be ready until February. I hope it doesn't get pushed back anymore! I can't wait to get it. Such a weirdly hypnotic movie.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

Just discovered that "Radar Secret Service" is on DVD released as part of the "Forgotten Noir & Crime: Collection 4" from VCI.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

Due out on August 13th from MGM's "limited edition" (meaning it's a "burn-on-demand" title) - "The Incredible Melting Man."

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

For anyone like me who likes to collect the unMSTied versions of movies, "The Last Chase" - starring Lee Majors and Burgess Meredith and featured in KTMA episode 20, has been released on DVD by Code Red.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

DVD Drive-In has reported that finally there's a legitimate region 1 DVD release in the works for "Godzilla vs. Megalon."

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

@ TheBigBopper: I have both of those too! I found them in my local Newbury Comics store (sells much more than just comic books!) I've collected non-MST'ed versions of the films featured from time to time, when I have afew bucks to burn; I love comparing what's shown on MST to what the full-length version of the movie was.  My most recent purchase was the double-movie dvd of "The Amazing Transparent Man" and "The Indestructible Man". Those buy-two-for-one-price deals are great!

I've been trying to get an un-MST'ed version "Danger!: Diabolik", but because of it's OOP status and it's significance in the history of MST3K, it has not been easy to acquire. The same goes for "Laserblast"...it wasn't that long ago when the dvd seemed reasonably priced on ebay, but after it went OOP the price jumped significantly.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

I just saw that the Warner Archive Collection of burn-on-demand DVD's has added "Untamed Youth" to their list of available titles.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

Earlier this week I went to Meijer and found the Midnite Movies DVDs for $5 each. Two of them contained Village Of The Giants (coupled with Attack Of The Puppet People). And Alien From L.A. (coupled with Morons From Outerspace). I'm just getting started collecting the non-MST'd versions, so I was pleased to get these on DVDs instead of settling for VHS.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

I'm pretty excited about that one - I have an old VHS of it and can't wait to see it cleaned up and unedited.

RE: Un-MSTied movie news thread...

Zombie Nightmare is coming from Scorpion Releasing 10/26 as well
