Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to ...

Search Forums:

I'm fed up with not having Digital Cable in my room. Why should I pay $100 a month for a Digital Cable unit, just to watch Toon Disney, when I could just wait for you guys to release Digimon: Digital Monsters on DVD, in 26-Episode Boxsets, and pay 30 bucks for each? I don't care if Disney has the rights to air it, see to it that SHOUT! Factory has the rights to release Digimon: Digital Monsters on DVD, IN AMERICA!!!

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I use to love "Digimon"! season after season until the fifth one... the new one sucks!. I also still have the trading cards, so that's a plus, a friend of mine told me about this site. It sounds great, so I hope ya'll definitely release all these tv shows I've found out you have already released or thinking of considering. there must be a lot of fans out there, me and my friend would definitely buy this! and we'll passon the word!.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

Digimon is Out  Completed in other countries too    So is  Pokemon  in a  Complete sets.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

May not be in America guys, but those of you that can import and want to see and own the first series of Digimon again could always start picking up the Madman sets, they have the first set out already and are releasing the second set soon.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I see Digimon on dvd at FYE there used copies.  there is two releases

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

GAHHHHHHH!!! I AM TRYING TO GET SOME FRIENDS TO JOIN AND WRITE AND SHOW THEIR SUPPORT, FANS ON WEBSITES ETC!!. It's like.. not working :P

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I will re-state my support of this proposition as I have... acceptable quality DVD copies of my VHS broadcast recordings, which I would love to upgrade with the DVD quality Shout! has proven they can deliver. The Takara Transformers seemed like a long shot and they are seeing the light of day and Digimon has had much more of a mainstream exposure in North America.

Consider me sold on a future release, if it happens.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I miss "Digimon" watch clips on youtube! it's so heartwaming and touching. Cute and smart!, so different from any other tv show. Love the first four seasons and I've fallen in love with ShoutFactory from new releases from them, "Piranha", the 'Slumber Party Massacre' collection, "Kingdom of Spiders", "Humanoids from the Deep" and "Cannibal Girls". When other wouldn't give the time to think of releasing these films again, please SHOUT-Factory please release all the 'Digimon' series!!.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

Digimon as always been one of my favorite series. So many childhood memories related to this show! I truely hope Shout! Factory will get the rights someday. Chances are slim, but they surprised me this year with their recent acquisitions of Reboot and Beast Wars : Tranformers, two series I thought would NEVER get new DVD releases.

Comparing Digimon to Looney Toons is not really fair, but it's really popular nonetheless, maybe more than those aforementioned series.

Maybe there's hope left!

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

Just chiming my two cents here.  I actually own the first three dub seasons bootlegged, to be fair I had no clue they were bootlegs till I got them home, but they work just fine.  Not to mention I was super lucky and got them before the prices skyrocketed.

But even though I own these dvds, I would gladly shell out money for an official dvd release the fans are extremely loyal!  I was at an Anime Convention this month, and there was a Digimon panel that was PACKED, tons of cosplayers in Digimon costumes, and even two won awards in the competition! Saying this series won't sell is like saying Looney Tunes wouldn't sell.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I'll be open to a DVD release if the original Japanese language is included.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

this was one of my favorites. although after watching the series after the from forth onward, i found the series in english to be quite different from the japanese version and i would get the series if there was the uncut japanese/english audio. the 5th series/season is has been released on to dvd and i expressed this to the ones who are releasing it, i ended up getting a response from them saying that they would look into it once they finished releasing the season.

but i think we're talking about the first season... that too would be get to have the english and japanese versions. the music is very different for one, as well as the difference in voices is very different.

I won't say it's an impossibility, but given the low sales on similar shows like Medabots and Dinosaur King, I think it would be a tough sale to the powers-that-be.

Have you seen how much the bootleg copies go for on Ebay? Don't tell me there isn't a profit to be made here.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I would been keen to snap up a copy of the digimon series if the were ever to come out on DVD. Just to let you know.

Oh, there is an online petition going around aswell for a release of digimon on dvd.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

No it wouldn't. A sub-only release caters to a niche that likely has already seen those episodes subtitled via fan translations, and wouldn't get into many general retailers, where a show like Digimon, would find success. If Shout! only has one choice (which given the state of the dubs, there can't be a Dub/Sub release on the same set) the dub is the way to go. It's the version most people in North America saw, and is the one most people care about.

Also, is this a request for the Digimon DUB or the Digimon SUB that Funimation has? Honestly, the uncut Sub would be WAY more appreciated and would probably have a higher chance of getting good sales.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

If I post a shout-out can it count as 4 people?  My siblings and I are nuts for Digimon, if DVDs came out we'd probably all buy our own sets, haha.
It's kinda terrible that they are comparing Digimon to Medabots... I mean I understand they don't want to lose money, and they are both aimed at a similar demographic, but Digimon was more popular and the fans are loyal as hell.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

OMG is Digimon season 1, 2 and 3 were on DVD I would crap myself, THIS ONE IS A MUST!!

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

OH HELL YES I WANT COMPLETE DIGIMON SEASONS ON DVD (Though really, I would want 1,3,, and 5 since they're the only good seasons.)! Try to get things like commentary, fan interviews VAs, dubbers and writers interviews

But I don't know, can Shout sell Anime? I mean, you guys would have to have unedited versions along with the US dub..

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I joined just to show how much a I would love Digimon on Dvd!

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

Keep Digimon away from SHOUT! Factory! They would never put closed captions/English subbed on DVD.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

Digimon is definitely something everyone looks forward too.  I don't understand why it can't come out on DVD already, especially the first few seasons.  I'm sure nobody would think twice about picking up the copies as soon as they came out, because its just that good.

Please consider it.  Let our voices be heard

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I just got done talking with someone else about how I grew up on this, it'd be great to be able to get all the seasons on DVD instead of trying to scrounge around for downloads.

Season 6 of Digimon is a go

Good news, Season 6 of Digimon is a go.  With Well Go USA releasing Digimon Savers (Data Squad/season 5) this would be a great opportunity to see if releasing Digimon's previous season will work.  Well Go USA seems to be doing well as Vol 2 of Data Squad comes out this month.  Hopefully the release of season 6 will spark, if not Shout, then someone to release the other seasons, and the 9 movies (Island of Adventures and Runaway Locomon would be an instant day one for me).

I'd definitely buy season 4 if it was released on DVD!

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

Also don't forget the new Digimon MMO that starts the 17th of March (yes this month).  Right now the beta is available and on the first day of downloads within an hour they already reached over 2,000+ people downloading the beta client (and this was at 7PM PST, 10PM EST time).  There were a lot of overnights on the forums that night.  In fact the downloads are still going.  The host server even had to cancel the client download due to the huge demand from the fans downloading the client.  It's now available through third parties thankfully.  On top of this another Digimon MMO is in the works and is planned to be distributed by the same company WeMade.

If anyone is interested there's a whole Digimon community as well as the beta itself over here http://digimonbattle.wemade.net/main/main.asp

If you sign up for the beta now you get a special Tamers pack for the open beta on the 17th.

On top of this there's another Digimon game coming out from Bandai for the DS.

The Digimon fandom is massive.  They are still active to this day, writing fan fic and still discussing (Although truth be told, charecter realationships is something that often comes up.)

But yes, I would buy it if it came out.

think about this. on ebay there are TONS of bootlegs of each digimon series sold as boxed sets for almost $100 EACH! i think that is enough to show how much fans want Digimon on dvd. imagine how many would buy them if it were at a lower price and an official release.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I'd throw my money at Shout like it was Brett Favre's football for Digimon on DVD. Definitely gonna pass this around.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I would definitely buy every every single set of Digimon, if it were released. I'd even buy extra sets as gifts for friends.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

There are so many of us fans who have been faithfully waiting for the early four series of Digimon to be released on DVD. The old VHS tapes didn't have the complete series, and there's nowhere else that this show is offered in English here in America. It's been ten years now without a DVD release, and I think we've more than earned it. Fans have been showing support for a DVD release for years, and even people that aren't necessarily fans or are into anime anymore still remember the series from when they were young and would probably get it purely for nostalgia purposes. As someone who loved Digimon growing up, I'd love the DVDs, not just to revisit it for myself, but also to be able to share with my young nieces, who are starting to get to that age where they could appreciated it as I did. After all this time, a DVD release could also introduce a whole new generation of kids to it who never got to see it on TV. There's so many people who would gladly shell out money for a good, well-put together, clean boxset of this show, so please, at least give it a thought and do what you can to make it happen for us.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I agree with the above folks! I am an older fan, who grew up watching digimon- having all of the seasons on DVD would be EXCELLENT. It would be not just good to relive for us older fans, but great for new ones, even. The digimon anime delved into deep stories and plotlines, that franchises like pokemon can't  compare to, in that sense.

Give us Digimon on DVD...!

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I'd love to see Digimon on DVD and would buy it, and I know a bunch of my non-internet-savvy friends that'd be excited too.

ETA: I love Dinosaur King, too, and I had no idea that they sell DVDs of it! Has it even been advertised? I can't say I've ever seen it in stores, though, and I usually stop by the DVD section anywhere to check for shows I like.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

As a seasoned Digimon fan, it would be excellent if we got official DVD boxsets. (Outside of Data Squad since we know it's already being released). I know i'm sick of seeing fakes on Amazon, Ebay etc. Count this one up towards the total of 'We would like Digimon DVDs'.

*wanders to post on Starlight to get more people in on the act.*

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

Just throwing this out there, I would definitely buy Digimon if it came out on DVD.  Loved the show.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I trust you.  And I agree.  But I'm afraid I'm not the one that makes that decision around here.  Sorry, guys.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

Trust me, Brian, Dinosaur King and Medabots combined don't even total half the popularity of Digimon. Digimon was the highest-rated show on Fox Kids for years, and it even had a theatrical movie. I'd wager Digimon would sell at least well enough to warrant multiple releases. At least, I'd like to hope so.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I know I'd be all over a Digimon release, especially if season sets were involved. It's not like I need or want a fancy set with hours of extras; a bare bones set with just the shows would be more than sufficient. I'd even buy single releases. This is one of my most-wanted shows on DVD, and I'd be more than happy to give Shout my money if they were to provide me with DVD releases.

I respect that point. Sales are the bottom line. I do disagree with comparing a brand such as Digimon with a multiple season success in electronic toys, cards, as well as misc. merchandise. IMO it is hard to compare Dino K and Meda's to that. 5 years of anime dating from 1999 is sure to generate some product movement. Especially when you consider that the kids who used to watch now have employment with disposable income to spend on the discs. Just a thought, and thinking is always a good thing.
If it isn't in the cards, it doesn't matter.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

Actually, that single disk (there was only one- the 'second' release was a reprint of the first) was a relatively limited pressing and it did do well enough that when Disney first bought Saban they did another printing.  Disney just didn't do much Saban related catalog product until very recently.

Another buyer for Digimon here though!

And Brian, one thing for the powers that be- Medabots, and even Dinosaur King (which I know was way later) were imported to try and cash in on success that Digimon had.

The 5th season, which is the one Disney DOESN'T own in the USA (Toei didn't sublicense that show to Disney, they did it via Toei USA, hence why Well Go is ONLY doing Season 5), and was the least liked, has done well enough that the second boxset is coming out soon.  First apparently did well at Wal-Mart.

Fans would support the first few seasons no doubt.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

". A single disc release with the first episodes of each of the series."

They were actually two dvd releases with a few of the episodes during the first season.  The one I have contains the first 13 episodes and was released by Fox (even has the FoxKids and Saban logo on it).  These release was to do exactly this unfortunately it never did well (I believe little advertising and marketing was a contributor).  I actually stumbled across this release used one day at Funcoland (now GameStop).

Any way, a company called Well Good USA has actually started releasing Season 5 (Savers) on dvd in multi volume format.  Volume one came out last year and there are plans to release the next volume sometime this year.  Any way, my point is one company has acquired the right from Disney so this might be more of an improbability to attain the rights to now.  I guess Shout could always try to just obtain the rights to the previous seasons, if the other company is releasing another volume then they must have had some success to warrant it.  This proves that there is a market out there.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

Perhaps a "taster" could test the waters to see how much of a market there is for Digimon. A single disc release with the first episodes of each of the series. What I would like to see are the movies released to DVD as all I've ever been able to see has been the feature released by FOX Kids ten years ago.

Bumping this for great justice. I'd buy seasons 1 and 3 in a heartbeat.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

I completely agree. A release of all the seasons of this series would be wonderful. It really is underrated.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

Yeah, If there's one thing us fans of Digimon would hate is for Disney to NOT release the DVDs until the fifth season (Data Squad) is done airing on Toon Disney, and not release DVDs until a year after it's finished.

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

Wanted to give this topic a bump. Brian, if it isn't too much trouble, whenever you happen to have a status update on negotiations for this show's release on dvd, we'd appreciate whatever info you can give. :-)

RE: Digimon: Digital Monsters, PLEASE try to get it!

It would be just plain spectacular if you could secure the rights to release Digimon on DVD, Brian. Disney sure doesn't seem interested in doing anything with it. I'll just repost what I said on another forum about why Digimon should be on DVD:

1. The show still brings in ratings. The series running on Disney networks since before Jetix's inception is testament that Disney knows the show is worth keeping around, especially since they picked up the rights to the remaining 4 movies and Digimon Savers.

2. They're releasing DVDs internationally. Box sets are being released in the UK in several months. They've been getting DVD releases of the series on and off for a while. The show clearly has international appeal on DVD, and it certainly does here in America, too. Which leads me to point 3...

3. Plenty of demand. There are plenty of fans out there that would pay a pretty penny for box sets of the series, even if they were American version only (which, obviously, they would be).

I could see Digimon being a dynamite property for Shout! to release.
