It Was 2000 Years Ago Today…
We’re very pleased to announce that we’ve teamed with the venerable Carl Reiner & Mel Brooks for the release of The 2000 Year Old Man: The Complete History. The 3-CD/1-DVD set contains all five legendary comedy albums released by the duo, including The 2000 Year Old Man In The Year 2000, for which they received a Grammy® Award in 1998. The DVD features a brand-new exclusive interview with Reiner and Brooks discussing the history of the routine, the 1975 animated 2000 Year Old Man TV special and vintage clips of the two appearing on The Ed Sullivan Show and The New Steve Allen Show. The set also includes extensive liner notes, rare photos and tributes from some of the biggest names in comedy. Look for it on 11/24!
Identical Cousins And A Talking Horse
Gosh, we miss the ’60s with their “anything goes” concepts. Sure, Lost has gone where no island has gone before, but the 1960s produced a horse that commanded respect. He was "Mister" Ed, thank you very much. In keeping with our love affair with classic television, we’re releasing two first-season gems: The Patty Duke Show (six DVDs on 9/29) and Mister Ed (a 4-DVD set a week later). Patty Duke is bolstered by all-new interviews with the cast, while Mister Ed has new interviews and commentaries with Alan Young and co-star Connie Hines. The horse, unfortunately, was unavailable for comments.
thirtysomething Makes Its Dramatic DVD Debut
This week’s release of thirtysomething: the complete first season made fans of all somethings rejoice. The new set has been met with rave reviews from the likes of The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Entertainment Weekly. The cast reunited on Good Morning America Tuesday morning for a fantastic “then and now” piece which you can watch here.
Michael And Michael And David Too
The comedy collective known as Stella—Michael Ian Black, Michael Showalter and David Wain—had great success with their eponymous weekly series, not to mention Comedy Central’s Michael & Michael Have Issues, MTV’s The State, the online series Wainy Days… The list actually does go on and on for the trio as a group and individually. They recently took their talents to the stage for Stella: Live In Boston and created what we like to refer to as a side-splitting DVD. The disc includes the full hour performance plus three episodes each of Wainy Days and Michael Showalter Showalter. In stores September 15 or by preordering here at Amazon.
Richard Thompson: Guitar Legend Extraordinaire
Sure, he made Rolling Stone’s list of Top 20 Guitarists of All Time. And it’s true that his career is in its fifth decade and that he continues to record and perform. We don’t have to tell you that Richard Thompson is a legend. Just watch him perform. Or listen to the 4-CD Walking On A Wire (1968-2009) box set. This extraordinary collection takes you through every phase of Thompson’s career, from his early days with Fairport Convention, to his recordings with then-wife Linda Thompson, right up to his 2009 Shout! Factory release Sweet Warrior. Get educated by the 71 tracks in the set. You’ll be glad you did. Walking On A Wire is out now.
