Comic-Con 2009 Is ON!
We are all revved up to hit beautiful San Diego as we participate for the sixth consecutive year in the world’s most exciting and mass-attended pop culture convention. We’re at booth #3749 and have lined up a handful of events to properly whet your appetite. From The Middleman panel and signing to The Transformers signing, we’ve got the goods. Also, for you G.I. Joe and Transformers Collector’s Set coveters, we WILL be selling both sets at our booth. In addition, we have a limited-edition, Comic-Con exclusive lithograph available for both . . . and they’re signed! The G.I. Joe poster is autographed by artist Tom Feister, while The Transformers litho is signed by the Gen One voice of Megatron, Frank Welker!! Our complete schedule can be found here.
Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs Of Mark Mulcahy
We’re very proud to announce the release of Ciao My Shining Star: The Songs Of Mark Mulcahy, out 9/29, featuring songs from the Miracle Legion and Polaris front man. The compilation features versions of Mulcahy’s music performed by some of today’s greatest artists in tribute to the musician, whose wife died suddenly in September 2008. Proceeds from the sale of the album will go to Mulcahy to help him continue his music career while raising his three-year-old twin daughters. The compilation features 21 exclusive recordings by Thom Yorke, Michael Stipe, Dinosaur Jr., Mercury Rev, The National, Frank Black, Vic Chesnutt, Frank Turner and Josh Rouse, among others. In addition, a further 20 tracks, from artists such as A.C. Newman, Buffalo Tom and Laura Veirs, will be available digitally. Hear Thom Yorke’s version of “It’s All For The Best” on Stereogum, who call it “Impressive. He didn’t mail it in, making it his own, while retaining the spirit of the original.”
Rhett Miller Cohosts CNN
Old 97s front man Rhett Miller recently cohosted a segment on CNN’s Music & Conversation With Shanon Cook. It’s a great piece that includes interviews with Jason Mraz, Lionel Richie, Taking Back Sunday and Butterfly Boucher. The 20-minute program is here. Also, Rhett is still on tour, so don’t forget to check his site regularly to see when he’s in your town. Dates are still being added at Rhettmiller.com, or follow him on Twitter @rhettmiller.
Blu-ray-apalooza
Looking forward a few months, we want to let you know about a new batch of Blu-ray titles we have on deck. On October 6 we’re releasing the B-r version of the previously released Kurt Cobain: About A Son. Filled with gorgeous scenery, this version will be magnificent to watch. That same date also sees the release of the Takashi Miike classic Audition: Collector’s Edition, which celebrates its 10th anniversary in a 2-disc set including a B-r of the film and a DVD of bonus content. Lastly, available on October 13, the latest film from Warren Miller Entertainment, Children Of Winter, features breathtaking scenery and a blazing soundtrack, including Radiohead, Michael Franti/Spearhead and Beck. That’s three discs to be on the hi-def lookout for.
