Comic-Con ’08 Recovery
Well, another Comic-Con has come and gone. We’ve sorted our bags of goodies, taken plenty of Vitamin C and are now back in the full swing of things. This year was a huge success for Shout! Factory, with more signings and events than ever before. In addition to our previously announced signings with the folks from Mystery Science Theater 3000, Swamp Thing, Greg The Bunny and Sam & Max we hosted a second MST3K signing with Joel Hodgson, Trace Beaulieu and Frank Coniff, as well as an appearance by Code Monkeys creator Adam de la Peña.

And let us tell you about the MST3K panel … it hit capacity a full three hours before its start time! The packed house was first to hear the announcement about our forthcoming MST3K 20th Anniversary Edition box set’s contents: First Spaceship On Venus (1960), Laserblast (1978), Werewolf (1996) and Future War (1997), plus a Crow T. Robot figurine and lobby cards for the four films, all housed in a limited-edition tin. The audience giggled and laughed at comments by moderator Patton Oswalt and the MST cast and crew. It was a great event, which you can witness once the box set comes out, as we filmed it for bonus content. Preorder it now for its October 28 street date.

Lastly, if you attended Comic-Con, stopped by the Shout! booth and entered the drawing for our treasure chest of DVDs, then you … probably didn’t win. BUT we do have a winner: Scott Beech of Metairie, LA. Everyone at Shout! sends hearty congrats his way.

Putting A Spin On Things
Michael J. Fox remains one of the most beloved and endearing actors of our time. From Family Ties to the Back To The Future films, he’s always been a class act. We’re very excited to be releasing his second TV series, Spin City, to DVD. Season One is a 4-DVD set featuring all 24 episodes, plus new commentaries and interviews with Fox and the rest of the cast. Available on November 4, look for more complete seasons down the road.

Going Gonzo For Thompson
Hunter S. Thompson introduced the world to gonzo journalism through his masterpiece Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas, a drug-addled journey in search of the American dream. Throughout his journalistic career, Thompson practiced a first-person approach where he inserted himself into the story, often recording events on cassette as they occurred rather than taking notes. On October 28 we’ll release The Gonzo Tapes: The Life And Work Of Dr. Hunter S. Thompson, a 5-CD box set featuring Thompson’s narrated notes that ultimately create a fascinating look into the mind of a literary legend, not to mention an incredibly unique character. A companion piece to the new film of the same name, the set includes a 44-page booklet that includes track notes as well as archival photos courtesy of the Thompson estate.

Go Undercover With Nick Danger
The Firesign Theatre’s Box Of Danger: The Complete Nick Danger Casebook turns the spotlight on the legendary comedy troupe’s most famous creation: Nick Danger, Third Eye, who is now being featured in this, his very own 4-CD box set. The collection assembles for the first time such favorite skits as “Cut ’Em Off At The Past,” “The Case Of The Missing Shoe,” “The Three Faces Of Al,” plus a wealth of rare items from Nick’s tattered casebook, including four previously unreleased recordings and a 40-page booklet. The artwork is gorgeously pulpy on this one and a must-have for your display cabinet. Available September 30.
