South By Southwest 2008
All of the attendees from Shout! who went to this year’s SXSW in Austin, Texas, have safely returned with stories of all the great bands they witnessed. The festival was marked by several performances by our very own Earlimart, whose new CD, Hymn And Her, comes out on July 1. SXSW also saw the debut screening of The Night James Brown Saved Boston, a new film by David Leaf concerning the legendary 1968 concert that prevented rioting in Boston in the wake of MLK’s assassination. VH1 will air the film on April 5, the 40th anniversary of the concert, and Shout! Factory will be releasing it in August as part of DVD box set called
I Got The Feelin’: James Brown In The ’60s.
The Beat of the Drum Goes On
In October we were treated to a new Mickey Hart album, Global Drum Project. While that amazing record remains a favorite around the Shout! office, we’re also grooving to reissues of Mickey’s past catalog, including Planet Drum, which won the first-ever Grammy® for best world-music album, and Diga Rhythm Band. More reissues are coming on April 15: At The Edge, Mickey Hart’s Mystery Box and Supralingua.

Celebrate Africa Celebrates U2 by Visiting the New Site!
We’re really proud of the all-new CD In The Name of Love: Africa Celebrates U2, coming on April 1. In fact, we’ve launched an entire Web site devoted to it at AfricaCelebratesU2.com. Once there, you can listen to the 12 cover versions of U2 songs performed by amazing African artists such as Angelique Kidjo, Soweto Gospel Choir and Vieux Farka Touré, plus get information about their native countries and learn about nonprofits that are making a difference.
The Return of the Easter Greg The Bunny
At this time of year, our thoughts are typically filled with fuzzy bunnies transporting baskets of yummy chocolate eggs and marshmallow duckies. That image is immediately erased upon viewing the latest Greg The Bunny DVD. The upcoming The Passion Of Greg The Bunny features Greg, along with his primate pal Warren Demontague, as they tackle more of Hollywood’s finest with this second installment of film parodies. Human guest appearances include Sarah Silverman, Seth Green, Adam Goldberg, Jon Favreau and more. Bonuses galore include a music video, Webisodes, commentaries and an unreleased pilot for Warren “The Ape.” DVD street date is May 6.
But Who Mentors the Mentors?
For the fourth year (and counting) Shout! Factory is participating in a mentoring program with A Place Called Home and Youth Mentoring Connection. Every other week, we meet up with these high school-aged teens and pair off for the course of about nine months. This year is a stellar year for Shout! with a total head count of 20 mentors! Our year just began and we have loads of fun-filled meetings ahead, with activities ranging from bowling to one-on-one lunches and slang Pictionary. Let the games begin! |
