The
Queen of Halloween Returns
Elvira and some of her favorite B-movie picks make their
way to DVD, just in time for the season she rules. Six classics from Elvira’s
Movie Macabre library meet the digital age: Frankenstein’s Castle Of Freaks, Count
Dracula’s Great Love, Legacy Of Blood, The Devil’s Wedding Night, The Doomsday Machine and Werewolf Of Washington.
Fear not, each includes Ms. E.’s original commentary ‑ and cleavage ‑
throughout. Available individually or as two-disc double features. Nothin’ says
October like Elvira!

Speaking of B-Movies: Calling All MST3K Fans!
Remember those ’bots on Mystery Science Theater 3000 that watched bad movies and offered insightfully
hilarious commentary throughout? We do, and boy do we miss them! But fear not: the
Film Crew is here to save the day and they’ve picked up where their
predecessors left off. Comprised of writers and characters from the beloved MST3K (Mike Nelson, Bill Corbett and Kevin Murphy), Film Crew ensures that B- and C-movies
again get their comeuppance. In April 2007, Shout! will release the first of
the new Film Crew line on DVD, so
we’re asking you to help decide which title gets to be first. Take a trip over
to http://filmcrewonline.com/, watch
clips from the four contenders, and then cast your vote. The power is in your
hands. Are you up for the mission?

Rat Fink A Go-Go
You’ve seen him around — little green rodent, infested
with flies, riding a motorcycle? The anti-Mickey, some may say. His name’s Rat
Fink and he is the creation of one Ed
“Big Daddy” Roth, the man who
single-handedly created “kustom” car culture. Hot rods with flames on the side?
That’s Big Daddy. Shout! proudly releases the animated documentary of his life
that finally extols the genius of this alternative culture guru. Tales
Of The Rat Fink is out on October 31 and features the voice talent
of John Goodman, Ann-Margret, Jay Leno and a score of others. Anyone in or around the Los Angeles area should
check out the Rat Fink exhibit at the Petersen Auto Museum. It opens October
28. Click Here for more info.

Venture Inside the Actors Studio
Few interviewers have managed to get so many actors to open
up the way James Lipton has. Since 1994, Inside The Actors Studio has provided a close and personal look at the
biggest and hottest names in Hollywood. Shout! is now bringing the Actors
Studio into your homes on DVD, launching with Dave Chappelle and the 3-DVD Icons set, featuring Clint
Eastwood, Paul Newman, Robert Redford and Barbra Streisand. Chappelle’s interview is from earlier this year
and was his first to take place upon returning from Africa. You don’t want to
miss that! Both titles feature extended interview footage that never made it on
TV. These are out on November 7.

Put a Little Hooker In Your Home
It’s easily said, but hard to dispute: John Lee Hooker was a genius on the five-string guitar. That being true,
he’s a little overdue for the box set treatment. In a new partnership with the
Hooker Estate, Shout! Factory has tackled his catalog and pays proper tribute
to the blues man with Hooker, a 4-CD career-spanning box set. It
contains 84 tracks and a lush, 60-page color booklet. Look for CD reissues in
2007. The box set is available Tuesday, Oct 31. Pick up two, as it makes a
wonderful gift for the holidays. |
This Is the Life
One of the best shows on radio makes a return to disc on
November 7 (see 2003’s Crimebusters And Crossed Wires) when the 2-CD set This American Life:
Stories Of Hope & Fear hits stores. We
again teamed up with the show’s host, Ira Glass, who handpicked the 11 stories.
Included are readings by best-selling author David Sedaris, The
Daily Show’s John Hodgman and Jonathan Goldstein, as well as music
interludes by Blonde Redhead, Calexico, Thurston Moore and The RZA. This eclectic anthology addresses topics ranging from gender
reassignment to karaoke comedy to teenage diaries and features over 2 hours of
alternately hilarious and heartbreaking spoken performances. |
