Shoutfactory.com is Live!
After much work and loads of planning, our new website officially launched in January to a great response. Head on over and check out the snazzy features we’ve built just for you. The site now offers a Community Message Board section, filled with threads about CDs, DVDs and more; the Game room is addictive (just try to get past Level 1 of Event Horizon); and new Podcasts go up every couple weeks—right now, you can listen to some Johnny “Guitar” Watson nuggets. Oh, and you can shop, too. All of Shout! Factory’s outstanding releases (if we say so ourselves) are available for purchase through the site. Kick off your shoes and stay a while.
Introducing Johnny Carson
Before becoming a late-night TV legend, Johnny Carson made his way as a comedy writer. Back in 1955, he got his big break when CBS entrusted him with his own variety program, The Johnny Carson Show. These long-lost tapes were recently discovered by Carson’s ex-wife, Joanne, and are now available on a 2-DVD set. Joanne Carson has been busy discussing the set, so don’t miss her upcoming interviews on CNN’s The Larry King Show and Entertainment Tonight, plus CNN Radio and Westwood One.
Captain N Is Here to Save Videoland!
The Forces of Chaos are no match for Captain N: The Game Master. The early-’90s cartoon, featuring our favorite video game characters, is finally available on DVD. Captain N (for Nintendo) battles the bad guys with help from some of the game platform’s biggest stars: King Hippo, the Eggplant Wizard, Link, Princess Zelda and the original Donkey Kong. The 4-disc set features the entire series, plus some cool bonuses, like Nintendo Power magazine’s “Captain Nintendo,” the 4-page story that started it all, as well as an interactive look at the original Videoland concept art.
The Ubiquitous Zach Galifianakis
Zach Galifianakis is best known from the “Comedians Of Comedy” tour and Comedy Central’s news spoof show, Dog Bites Man. Get ready to see even more of him as the Shout! Factory DVD, Live At The Purple Onion, nears its March 6 street date. He recently appeared on The Sarah Silverman Show and is now embarking on a national tour, which includes a stint in Austin at SXSW. Tour dates and more info can be found at Shout! Factory.
Getting to Know Hollywood’s Greatest Hits
Not only is Hollywood responsible for bringing us our favorite films and most quotable quotes, it has also created a lot of great music that’s wound its way into our hearts and memories. A new box set from Shout! brings together the best of the last seven decades onto 3 CDs. Hollywood Hits: 70 Years Of Memorable Movie Music is sectioned into three parts: Movies Themes (Gone With The Wind to Superman), Oscar Winners (“The Way You Look Tonight” to “Let The River Run”) and Musicals (“Cheek To Cheek” to “Tomorrow”). All performed by the original artists, the set lends itself to the true film buff. The box is a companion piece to the PBS special of the same name. So set your DVRs for the program and your day planner to March 2, when the box set hits shelves.
Three Herb Alpert Rarities Make Their iTunes Debut!
Shout! Factory is proud to present three classic albums by Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass, now available exclusively on iTunes. Vol. 2, Warm, and The Brass Are Comin’ all feature newly remastered sound. This is great news for fans of the Brass, since Vol. 2 has been unavailable for more than a decade, The Brass Are Comin’ was only issued on CD for about a minute in Japan, and Warm never made it to CD at all. |
