The embossed tin box is phenomenal, and each episode has its own lovingly crafted cover art. Throw in lobby cards, the first EVER action-figurey MST product in existence, plus the documentary, Comic-Con panel, trailers AND a fantastic film transfer, and there can be no doubt. Shout Factory has accomplished feats that Rhino could have never dreamed of. Shout, you guys are awesome! Thanks to you, from myself and MSTies everywhere. |

I doubt that it was out of my suggestion but I'm glad that the laserblast dvd menu had the depressing laserblast theme as the menu music. My only complaint is every host segment needs a chapter selection. I have to rewind my dvd just to watch my favorite sketch. |

Member since: 5/7/2008 | | RE: The set is out, and the verdict is in! | I got my 20th anniversary set yesterday and already watched two of the four discs. It's terrific. There are a few comments I'd like to make toward making the next one even better:
- The "Turn Down Your Lights Where Applicable" bit was removed from the beginning of First Spaceship On Venus. As everyone knows, MSTies like the show to be unaltered in any way. I always loved that joke. It was the opening signature of the show for years and I'm still mystified as to why Rhino and now Shout Factory is removing it from the shows. It's only a few extra seconds, so please, could you include it where applicable (pun intended) from now on?
- The inclusion of a chapter menu, even a brief one, would be helpful.
- The inclusion of the episode numbers on the individual DVD cases would be nice.
- Finally, I hope the release of more sets will be more frequent than it was from Rhino. Waiting for 9 months to a year for just 4 episodes is really slow. Is it possible to release sets at least quarterly? The faster the better.
As for what is in the set, I love the extra features like the "History of MST3K" documentary. I'd love to see the commercials MST3K did for its own episodes included as extra features in the future and some of the commercials and specials they did too. How about the "scrapbook" tape they produced years ago too? Thanks, Shout Factory!

More so than that, I would like to see some sort of subtitles included. This might be difficult for this particular show, but some of the dialogue between Mike and the bots appear to be whispered, and there have to be other fans like me whose hearing isn't the best. A lower price is definitely in order here; though I paid less by shopping online, I found out a standard, less expensive version was on the way after I already paid for the deluxe edition, which made me want to break something. |

Factory really showed they cared about the franchise, and about the fans, with all these extras. The documentaries were extremely well produced, and I wish they could have gone on longer. Had the documentaries been released as a separate, feature-length DVD, I'd have definitely bought it and would have been pleased with it. Including it in the set almost makes it seem like an early Christmas gift to the fans.
My only minor complaint is the lack of addition chapters stops in the episodes. It's a minor issue, but one I hope can be addressed on future releases, as it should be a very easy thing to include. Even one after the opening credits would be helpful, but ideally, there should be one at the start and end of each host segment. I don't even need a chapters menu. Just the chapter stops.
One other thing I'd like to see changed would be the lobby cards. Instead, I'd much rather have "trading cards" in the set. I'm not sure how much more it would cost to make trading cards vs. lobby cards, but if it wasn't that big of a cost difference, the cards would be much more collectible. You could either do one for each of the movies in the set, with a short write-up on the movie on the back, or expand the cards to five or six per set, and include character cards, or one character card, and one "thing" card... like, for the Satellite Of Love, Deep 13, the Hexfield Viewer, Rocket Number Nine, etc. Maybe Shout! Factory's license doesn't cover that type of thing, but I hope it does!! |

The "Turn Down Your Lights Where Applicable" card was not removed by Shout! Factory, and I'm guessing it wasn't removed by Rhino, either (as much as I'd like to say it probably was to make us look better ).
Otherwise, I'm glad everyone is liking the release. I will look into the chapter breaks and, because we've shipped it off to the plant, if it wasn't already addressed in XIV will be certainly be resolved in...MST3K: XV.
Enjoy, guys!

A couple questions:
Will the Crow figure ever be available separately? Will there ever be figures of Tom Servo or any of the other characters?
Keep up the good work, and have a Merry Christmas!
