Member since: 10/9/2008 | | Jayce And The Wheeled Warriors DVD Volume 2 still comming? | Hey guys , i've been a big fan of the series since i first viewed it on tv in the 80's and when i heard it was going to be released i knew i had to get it.
Now I'm from the Netherlands "Europe":) and i've been trying to get hold of the volume 1 set for a while. I've now noticed they sell them on amazon but really wanted to wait so i could order volume 1 and 2 at the same time.
Is volume 2 still comming? I believe amazon had it down as "cancelled" If so i want to get volume 1 before it gets even harder for me to get hold of.
Any word on this would really be great.

They need to sell a certain number of units within the first YEAR of a title's release to determine whether or not a second volume is feasible. If they don't meet that target number (in this case 15,000 units), then they don't do a second volume.
We've already seen this happen with C.O.P.S., please don't let this happen with Jayce! Every sale of Volume 1 brings it one step closer to that target number of sales and increases the likelihood that we'll see Volume 2. So PLEASE don't wait. Buy the first volume, thus adding that sale to the overall total and bringing the possibility of Volume 2 closer.
I'm assuming the main reason we haven't heard a definitive answer as to when Volume 2 is coming out is simply because it's still within that one year timeframe (it was released in late March) and they're waiting to hit that target number. So the longer you wait, the less likely it will be that we'll see the series finished. Do your part! Support Shout Factory's awesome work on this relatively obscure show and buy the set! We ALL want to see it finished.
The cancelled Volume 2 listed on amazon was another single disc release from NCircle, nothing to do with the Shout Factory sets. At this point, there is ONLY a listing for Volume 1 from Shout Factory, not even a "sign up and we'll let you know if it becomes available" listing for the second volume. |

Member since: 12/7/2008 | | RE: Jayce And The Wheeled Warriors DVD Volume 2 still comming? | Well I bought Vol 1 soon after release from DVDPacific, but it's also available on Amazon (com and co.uk) and they do ship to the UK and it's just below the limit for customs which means you won't have to pay taxes and fees, if it's bought on it's own.
I was a little disappointed that the show was interlaced 29.97fps instead of progressive 23.97 fps, when it seems that's the rate it was made in, as it would make it look better on a HDTV and stop some compression. (maybe if/when Volume 2 is made it could be?)
But it's still a very good set and people should buy it. |

It was made in NTSC, and intended to be viewed in NTSC. This is common for most American cartoons from this era. It is VERY rare for a show like this to be remastered from the original film elements (which in many cases no longer exist). And even if it was, the framerate would be bumped up to 29.97 in the transfer process anyway, since that's how it is intended to be viewed. U.S. shows = NTSC. European shows = PAL. All television prior to the HDTV era we now live in = interlaced. You won't see many (if any) cartoon shows from the 80's and 90's being done at film framerate or progressive scan, since that's not how they were originally shown.
As a matter of fact, Media Blasters' Voltron sets are the only recent 80's cartoon releases I can think of where this was done. But that was a VERY special case, in which it was known that the fanbase was sufficiently large enough to support the added expense of full remastering for the release. Not so with Jayce, which has a MUCH smaller fanbase by comparison. So we get the basic treatment - broadcast masters transferred to DVD. Still looks tons better than the old VHS releases, and certainly light years beyond the barely watchable bootlegs most of us have been putting up with over the years.
So having the DVDs in interlaced NTSC is actually correct, as it accurately reproduces the original analog video source material on DVD. Hell, you'll even see the occasional tape dropout here and there, something you wouldn't see with a film source. |

So my question is, how many more units do we need in this Jayce telethon? Are we close or am I going to have to buy copies for everyone I know whether they've even heard of Jayce or not 
Happy to buy a few more but if I'm number 1, 14,999 might be outta my price range!
Right I've thought of another person who would like it, so I'm going to buy another set. Sadly from Amazon as I can't see any way of buying directly from you.
Maybe if you guys just had a paypal account I could just send you the $$$ and skip the whole buying of more sets thing? Direct sponsorship like that would be pretty cool! |

So that means there's a bit less than 3 months left in the "golden first year" to hit the target. The fact that we haven't heard anything about Volume 2 yet likely means they're still waiting to hit that magic 15,000 units.
So what can WE do as fans?
Well, the best thing we can do is let everyone and their dog KNOW that it's out on DVD for starters. For example, when I did my reviews on YouTube, I received a TON of comments from people who were fans of the show, but simply didn't KNOW it was available on DVD.
I also frequent a number of popular torrent sites, and always make sure to leave a comment on any and all Jayce torrents letting people know that it's available officially, and encourage anyone looking for the show to support the release rather than hampering the possibility of future releases by downloading a bootleg set. I mean, it's really NOT that expensive in comparison with similar sets of other shows, and any true fan should be willing to shell out the 20 or so dollars to show their support. Bootlegs should only ever be used as placeholders anyway, to tide fans over until an official release becomes available.
Well folks, in the case of Jayce, it's HERE. So stop the bootlegs already! The DVD sets are far superior quality, and buying it means we're more likely to see the rest of it on DVD. But hey, I know I'm preaching to the choir here. ;)
Keep an eye out for discussions or blog posts about Jayce, and leave a comment letting folks know about the DVD release.
In short, anywhere you think you might reach some Jayce fans, TELL them about the DVD release. I'm sure there's still plenty of fans out there in the ether who would love to buy the set, but just don't know it exists.
But be quick about it, we've only got 3 months left! If they don't hit the magic 15,000 mark by March 25, 2009, we might never see Volume 2. |

It was such a great show, with excellent stories. I remember the period in TV animation well and little of it stands up well today but Jayce certainly was a cut above. I'm well aware it was a merchandising wagon but on that wagon were a few great writers adding a lot more than a marketing toy show should have deserved.
I can't wait to see it again and for my boy to have a watch.
As for buying more copies I'm worried that my pennies are going to waste. I'd really like to be certain and buy directly from Shout! I could make the payment with my Visa but since I'm in the UK and they don't deliver that far. What I need is ANY US address. Then I could have them send the pack to a complete stranger but feel certain my cash is going to the right people.
As I said direct sponsorship would be ideal. Cause after one DVD set I don't really need another! Maybe if they just did a special edition here. Ie. the same set with a 'Donation edition' sticker on it, then triple the price.
Oh well just trying to make my money go to the right people and to maximum affect! |

It makes sense since it's a win situation--no unit/distro costs; however, i'm unsure of the legal la-dee-das surrounding it. Though packaging is nice, i just want to be able to buy and DL the content.

I think the price needs to go up. Lets be honest, the people buying this pretty obscure 80s cartoon are pretty rare, and if you're going to buy it, the price really isn't an issue. Within reason of course!
We all know why someone would buy this series, its because of either nostalgia or because you're in the know and are actually aware of what a well written series it is. Either way you'd pay more than the listed price for it.
It's worth much more.
Hopefully if the price goes up, the profits do up and you wouldn't need as many units. That's just logical!
Personally, I'd have happily paid 3 times the amount.
So go on guys put the price up!
