Thanks Brian and Shout!
Just wanted to thank Brian and Shout for all the good releases they do for us.

Alot of us do bitch and complain and moan alot, but it's because we are fans.

I can't recall a single Shout DVD I wasn't happy with.  Maybe wanted more extras, but who doesn't on anything. (The first DVD set I got that I knew was from a company called 'Shout' was the Yearbook version of Freaks and Geeks, and that set was just ludicrously awesome).

I know alot of these shows probably wouldn't get a DVD release if it weren't for Shout, and even if they did, it would just be a few random episodes.

The fact Medabots, Super Mario Bros Super Show, Captain N and untold other shows got releases at all says something.

And the fact that shows like Oban and Sam and Max got more than just being 'thrown on a disk' is something that I'm sure I'm not the only person who appreciated them (cause who ever expected we'd get such an awesome Sam and Max set, or that anyone other than Brian and Shout would have listened to my argument about the edited TV version of Oban and actually got the uncut version).

I just really wanted to make a post without asking for anything, without complaining about anything, just thanking you guys for what you do.

RE: Thanks Brian and Shout!
Seconded. Brian and crew have done a great job on their releases, not only giving us shows we've always wanted to see on DVD, but with great special features, as well, something that many companies won't even do with their newer shows.

And man, I never thought I'd see the day when I'd own DVD box sets of any of the DiC Sonic and Mario shows, let alone all three! Plus, Medabots, Sam and Max, Oban...great stuff. Hope to see more successful releases in the future.

RE: Thanks Brian and Shout!

If everone else is going suck up and praise the ground you walk on, I guess there has to be someone who regitsters a complaint.

First let me say i am very happy that shout releases the shows they release.

However... on brian wards dvds I've noticed a trend. all of the special features have interviews with these amazing people, yet we barely get to see them because the interview constantly cuts to footage thats already on the dvd. Why? Why not just leave the camera on the person. If i wanted to watch footage of sonic underground performing i would sift through the dvd and watch the clips.

Other than that. you guys do an Okay to good job.

The point wasn't to suck up.

The point was all of us spend alot of time having our mini rants and complaints and requesting stuff at/to/from Brian and Shout and to once just say thanks for them doing shows no one else would likely do, and going the extra effort.

I've sat in during an interview thing for a show from a different company.  Many of the interviews are half an hour to multiple hours, far to long to reasonable stick on an already packed dvd.

Many thanks to all the folks at Shout.  You guys do an amazing job with these sets (Sam & Max!), and I think I speak for us all when I say we look forward to what's in store for the future.  Go ahead and pat yourselves on the back.  You deserve it.

I'm not saying leave an entire unedited interview on the dvd. What im saying is don't add a bunch of unnessissary fotage to the interview. The only thing i want to see or hear during an interview with Robby London is Robby London.

Really, I personally think splicing in show footage during the interview (particularly at certain points) actually enhances the interview. Besides, I don't want to stare at one guy talking for ten minutes straight. That's just me, though, I understand how others may feel differently.

Definetly a big thanks to Shout. You've guys some how mangage to release a lot of shows I enjoyed through the years. From Home Movies to Jayce and even tackling a lot of the gaming series like Captain N, Mario(s) and Sonic(s).

It's a fair critique, but clearly made by one who doesn't entirely understand the art of the featurette edit.  Believe it or not, most of the interviews you've seen contain ALL of the usable footage.  In some cases, there were topics covered that didn't fit into the over all final edit.  In other cases, clips were used to cover edits made to make people sound a little more fluid (i.e. removing stutters, false starts, "ums" and "uhs", etc.).  In a lot of cases, the clips specifically enhance the topic.  If Ben Hurst is talking about a particular moment in SatAM, I would be remiss if I simply allowed you, the viewer, to try to find that scene yourself.  Instead, I do the research, find the scene, pull the scene, and edit it in to emphasize his point.

There's a fine line between creating a clip reel and creating new content that allows clips to enhance the piece.  I try to accomplish the latter.  In some cases, that might mean shorter interviews.  But I assure you that we're not cutting good material and leaving it on the floor.  Instead, if there is good material that can't find its way into the final edit, we put together web exclusives like the following featurette segments from the upcoming Liberty's Kids: The Complete Series.  These moments did not make the cut, but we thought they were too good to leave unseen entirely.  You can find those four clips here: http://www.shoutfactory.com/video/wip/8/libertys_kids_special_web_only_exclusive.aspx

Enjoy!

Brian
