The Toblerone Effect
Member since: 6/22/2008 | | Not on the subject.....more about upcoming MST releases | | I'll admit, I'm way off-topic here; I haven't seen any Film Crew releases so far. I was more concerned with the upcoming releases of MST, starting in October according to reports. When Shout! first announced their acquistion to the rights to distribute our fav show, they made mention of releasing all episodes. Does this mean that, unlike preceding distributor Rhino, this company will make more of an effort to retain the rights to the movies? I've been real disappointed with the lack of communication from Shout! so far....I know there are legalities to hammer out and such, but an update every so often wouldn't hurt. First lesson: don't leave MSTies out of the loop when it comes to anything involving this show. Why wait until next month (July) to release the TITLES when you can end the suspense right now? Fans have been waiting for months for something substantial, the least you can do is end this worthless speculation and give us some titles being considered. |

Anything from B Ward is the official word from Shout. And saving the big announcement for ComicCon makes sense: it will get the word out to a large audience. Plus, it sounds like Shout is going to put together some WAY cooler bonuses than Rhino ever bothered to. As far as releasing the entire series, B Ward mentioned that this is very unlikely, due to some film rights that just can't be obtained (remember the Godzilla fiasco on Volume 10?). He did, however, point out that Shout isn't just going to release the public domain titles, which was Rhino's main strategy toward the end. Overall, this box set is going to be worth the waiting and mystery. |

A nice selection, but hardly worth a 20th Anniversary release.
Shout! did do a great job of hosting MST3K at the San Diego Comic-Con this year, and I think they got a good look at the fan base they will be dealing with. I am sure their first few offerings will be a balance between what the fans want, and what license rights they can obtain.
Wait & See.
And That is All the Foreshadowing We Can Afford Right Now. |
