I, too, would like to see the remaining episodes on dvd where they deserve. But thanks to sales, we may not see anymore dvd releases. Who knows, we might get lucky one day.

I think the word needs to get out to a lot more people, so feel free to spread it far and wide. I'd love nothing more than to re-visit the C.O.P.S. set. There's a lot I'd still like to do with those sets.

Member since: 2/8/2007 | | RE: C.O.P.S. WHEN ARE WE GOING TO SEE THE LAST 43 EPIOSDES OF C.O.P.S. ON DVD | Hi, this is davewriter, and I've signed up for this forum chiefly to participate in this discussion.
I'm wondering if this DVD set was ONLY available on Amazon; maybe if the DVD box set had been released in retail stores like Wal-Mart and Target, not to mention being available for rent at stores like Blockbuster (though I wouldn't know about this, as it's been ages since I rented DVD's) the project would've done better. Could anyone find many copies at a Best Buy anywhere? Amazon is nice, but there had to be more outlets if it were to be successful.
Also, had it also been available to buy in Canada, the UK, Australia and anywhere else where there may be fans of this show, this might not have been swept under the rug. It seems as if the people behind this show never realized there are also fans out there who aren't American, whether casual (like me) or hardcore.
I'd love to help out. Really, I would. But I'm just a casual fan who never got into this show until the mid-90's, and got tired of it after almost a year because of the exposure to the same 15-20 or so episodes on my television (give me a list of episodes that I can print up and write on, and I'll highlight those I remember as they come back,) only to come back into it in late 2004 thanks to fan sites on the Internet. I've seen a few more episodes via the Internet, but there are more that I'm curious about, having read some synopsises. (Also, there is evidence that my fanship IS casual in the related fanfictions I have penned.) I just wish there was something I can do to help promote this serial. |

I've been a fan since the early 90's when I was a kid and have loved it since. I recently picked up the first DVD that was released and am dying to see the rest! It's been so long since I've watched C.O.P.S. and now that a piece of this great series has been brought to light I won't be satisfied until the rest are released so please please release them...even as an online exclusive through your website!! I'd do anything to own the rest of this series!! |

Target is incredibly hard to get into, simply because their DVD section is considerably smaller than most other stores like this. But we've recently gotten The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! into Target and it's doing especially well.
And the sets were only made available in North America because that's all we had the rights for. Shout! Factory doesn't generally deal in worldwide rights for titles like this, so the UK has to find their own distributor.
The unfortunate fact of the matter is simply this: C.O.P.S. wasn't as popular a show as Transformers or G.I. Joe. The toyline was never a best seller, but the cartoon got a lot of respect and attention from fans while it was on. Still, 20 years later, were there enough hardcore fans to warrant a release on DVD. I thought so. That's why I fought hard to make it one of our first releases. But the key is to remind people that they loved it and to let them know it's available. That's where this site and the show's fans come in. We need that viral push. Otherwise, C.O.P.S. may not see a second--let alone a third--release.

I watched COPS when I was like 7 years old. I'm 20 now. When I heard C.O.P.S was coming out on dvd I was happy and pre ordered it right away with overnight shipping. I would love to be able to watch the rest of the show on dvd and if a second set came out I would preorder ASAP with overnight shipping again.

You're all more than welcome to sign my petition to help me make request Shout Factory to release volume 2 and volume 3 of the series anytime.

You may have to disregard the link to the petition after what I heard from many people who says that online petitions are worthless and not worth getting into. How was I supposed to know that? I thought it was a great idea until many people brought up the notion about online petitions being worthless. If that's the case, then I might as well get rid of it and look for better ways to campaign towards SF releasing the rest of the series on DVD. Sorry about that guys. |

Online petitions may or may not persuade studios to release the desired products, but it does do one important thing. It tells us how many people want the rest of the series released. This is important. Keep the petition up and plug the heck out of it! Let everyone know that it's there and that people are encouraged to sign it. Email tvshowsondvd.com. Email thedigitalbits.com. Email everyone and let them know about it. It's the only way you'll get signatures.
I'd sign it.

Especially after I heard some popular opinions about petitions being useless. But if that's the case, then how do they explain many certain petitions that are huge monster successes and have a huge lists of signatures on it? That's something I thought of last night when I went to bed for the evening. I didn't like the comments about petitions being useless when I did tried to submit to various types of cartoon forums out there. So I gave in to that opinion temporarily and have decided to kill petition. That was before you posted B Ward, telling me to keep at it and not give up. With that kind of encouragement and support as well as really get help and support to help with my campaign in all the right places, I can be able to recreate my petition, this time on gopetition.com, and always have my petition open for signatures no matter what other people say about it. To be honest with you, I was pretty reluctant in telling you guys about it because wasn't sure how you guys how you guys would react to what I'm going to say to you about. Now I know it's OK for me to do that. I'll have to learn and remember this important lesson, sometimes popular opinion is not always right. Especially when it comes to the fact that there are petitions out there that are all huge successes (including petitions to bring back My Little Pony). I hope my petition is one of them.
I'll let you guys know when I'll have the petition ready and running. I'll keep in touch.

I know that making money is the name of the game and if a set isn't selling up to par it'll get dropped from further release plans. But that can also make consumers wary of purchasing the next release from the studio. That kind of puts a bad taste in our mouths. Whose to say that the next set that gets put out won't get dropped? If that keeps happening, people might wait until more than just one volume/season set has been released to give them better hope for future releases, which means even less money will be made. We're all taking some risk on DVD sets. I know it makes me leery of buying volume & season sets, though I buy almost every one (C.O.P.S. included). I even bought the 3 episode DVD of the series. Now with C.O.P.S. possibly not getting more releases, that brings my incomplete series list up one higher (G.I. Joe, Jem & Gargoyles). I love reliving my childhood and my 3 year old son loves these shows as well. Would be a shame to deprive those of us who grew up with the shows & all the new-comers the ability to enjoy these classics. I just hope word spreads to the top that there are people out there who love these shows and want to be able to complete their sets. |

I only just found out about the C.O.P.S. DVDs and I promptly bought it up. I'm sure there are alot more C.O.P.S. fans that would buy the DVDs if Shout Factory properly advertised them so those fans knew they existed! The upcoming DVD releases of Captain N and Sonic the Hedgehog are perfect opportunities for advertising C.O.P.S. put ads on those DVDs for C.O.P.S. like you have ads for Freaks & Geeks and Home Movies on the C.O.P.S. DVD set. |

I really dislike when studios do this to fans.
You're preaching to the choir. But let me explain something in our defense. We're not a studio. We don't have studio money. So while you are taking a risk by buying a volume one set, knowing that you may not get a volume two, you're merely risking not having a full series. We, unfortunately, are risking our jobs. We simply can't afford to create a full series for completion sake if the price of production consistantly outweighs sales. This isn't a ploy on Shout!'s part; it's a survival move.
Again, we don't have studio money. We're a small company, which helps us in many ways, but hurts us in others. We don't have the millions of dollars to spend on advertising in big magazines and such, so we have to use what we can in the way of the internet and word-of-mouth. I know there are a lot more fans that are willing--and even eager--to buy the next volume of C.O.P.S. I'm one of them! But we don't have the budget to do continuous advertising. That's where this site, this forum, and ultimately, the fans come in. Word-of-mouth is a beautiful thing. We need you guys to spread the word. Personally, via the internet, whatever. If you know people who would like to see a show like C.O.P.S., please let them know it's available. If they buy and two more people buy and three more people buy...eventually, we'll be able to spend the money to produce more volumes and complete the series.
Brian
