MST3K DVDS
I'm happy that MST3K is coming back to the world of dvd through the Shout Factory. I'll be first in line at Best Buy or Amazon or here on this site to pick up the new sets. I do have one question about the disk themselves ? I hope they will NOT be the "fillper" disk format.  I've been burned in the past by DVD sets such as Magnum PI, Quantium Leap, old school Battlestar Galactica etc.  by the cheap quality of the dvd itsself, skiping, freezing up, no menus the list could go on.(NONE OF TITLES MENTIONED SOLD BY SHOUT)  I just need reassurance that the MST3K sets will not be the dreaded dual sided variety.

Hope the DVD sets aren't too expensive. I don't want to pay $74.99 for one set again. (Volume 6, bah!)

QUESTION: Anyone know if this new set from Shout! is officially VOLUME 13, or some new Volume 1 type set?

B Ward has said at least once that the packaging highlights MST's 20th Anniversary.  So likely, it'll be the MST: 20th Anniversary Collection, or something like that.  It's confirmed to be a 4-disc set, so even if not officially, we can always pretend it's Volume 13.  Personally, I'd always hoped for a Deep 13-themed set for Volume 13.  Time will tell.

As far as many of the fans are concerned, this will always be the 13th set released.  However, as far as we're concerned, it will be the first set done right.  So we won't be carrying on Rhino's old numbering system.

The discs will not be dual-sided.  Single-sided, dual-layered.  Each one will have its own thinpak.

Good to see that someone is actually taking care of the show and doing it up right.  But can you please release the Final Sacrifice ep in one of the next couple of sets?

Do you have to reffer to them as "first ones done right"? I mean Rhino wasn't the best company. But from what you've described your doing the same 4 episode, Randomly picked format that they did.

RE: MST3K DVDS

I don't understand the repeated requests by some "fans" to have Shout Factory reissue sets done already by Rhino for episodes that are still currently available. Pooh on that, most fans want episodes never before released to be done by Shout Factory. The only exception to this might be episodes that are out of print so that people who missed those can get them.

In response to one post above, I'm happy to say I've never paid anything near $74.99 for a single set. I've always pre-ordered my sets from Amazon or DeepDiscount as soon as they became available and they've always been far less than the list price which up till now has been about $59.95 from Rhino.

One person's favorite episode is another person's take-it-or-leave-it. While I wouldn't snub any new MST3K release, there are probably at least 50 hilarious classics episodes I'd like to see released before Final Sacrifice. How about Lost Continent, The Day The Earth Froze, Rocket Attack USA, First Spaceship On Venus, Fugitive Alien, Outlaw (of Gor), Beast of Yucca Flats, Bride of the Monster, Robot Monster, Robot vs. The Aztec Mummy, Jungle Goddess, Rocketship X-M, Magic Voyage of Sinbad, Earth vs. The Spider, The Amazing Colossal Man (and the sequel), Gamera (any and all of them) and on and on.

Amen to that brother. But then again i sure would like to see Final Sacrifice before I see the Magic Voyage of Sinbad again. There really should  be another poll. The problem is opinions are biassed due to rights issues so there's no real clear cut way of knowing which episodes people really want.

AAAAHHHHHHHHH.....NO POLLS!!!!!!

Didn't you ever notice when Rhino did their polls on the Satellite News website, the next release almost always had the titles that came in last...

Probably because the owners of the rights of these movies have computers too...and when they saw how much the fans wanted the episode with their movie the price immediately skyrocketed?

If that were true than we never would have gotten Clonus, Strange cratures, Giant spider invasion, or Monster a go-go released.

And besides how would the films copyright owners even know about the poll? Do they just view mst3k.com every 15 minutes just to know about the popularity of the films?

What's wrong with Thinpacks?  Sure, it's different than how Rhino did things, but Thinpacks are pretty standard for TV series releases.  And Shout! uses Thinpacks in most of their TV DVD sets.

SCTV, Wierd al show, Super mario brothers super show I seem to remember those not having thin packs. The reason i don't like it is because when there next to the Rhino DVDS Its gonna look like a Cheep alternative compared to the Rhino DVDS. People are gonna see it and go, Gee I wonder why the quality of this dvd is so much lower than one that was released before it?

I don't know man.  Thin packs for MST3K excites me a great deal.  They'll look great next to my collection of Josh Way covers.  I can't wait to see Shout's design.

I prefer the idea of thinpack DVD cases then how Rhino did the boxsets, I'm not very fond of foldout cardboard boxsets. Plus thinpacks can allow for the episodes to be placed in order, so while they'll seem kinda out of place with Rhino's singles, they'll still go in order unlike the Rhino sets.

Acctually after the eigth box set rhino started to put all of the episodes in numerical order, I know this is gonna sound insane but i like to watch the first episode on the dvd last. Sort of an obsesive compulsive tradition. This always ment I had to watch a season two episode last. Which is why i never liked the idea of putting the episodes in order. I guess if the episodes are in thin packs that means i can rearrange them and watch them an any order i feel. Unless the thin packs labled disc one, disc two Ect. If that is the case then I'm screwed yet again

Well right off, Amazon is listing it for $48 not $70, which if you check is about in line price-wise with most of their MST3K box sets. Secondly, Amazon is not a discount seller; if you buy from them you will usually pay top dollar. There are other on-line discount dvd sellers, such as Deep Discount which offer all the MST3K sets at lower prices than Amazon, and if you happen to buy during one of their semi-annual sales, they give you another 20% off their normal price, which is when I usually buy dvds. I don't think I have ever paid more than $35 for any MST3K box set, so there are cheaper options than Amazon.

If I've learned one thing in the pathetic void that is my life Its never order anything off the internet that you can get at your local best buy. I ordered something off of the amazon.com once, I waited a month a for it and one month later i finally got an email that said, "Sorry but we don't acctually have the item." Which is probably why I have trust issues. Anyway If i do buy this I'm not buying it off the internet.

70 dollars isn't in line, it's a ten buck price hike.  Even the discounted price has gone up.  And here I was so excited...

RE: MST3K DVDS

How many MSTies missed out on buying Volumes 9 and 10 because they decided to wait to buy for various reasons? If you want to be sure of getting every commercial MST3K DVD release, it's best to pre-order them before release. Amazon provides excellent discounts on many items they sell, including MST3K DVD sets, occasionally they are cheaper than DeepDiscount. I've ordered all of my Rhino 4-disc sets from one of these two sellers and have had worthwhile to significant discounts on all of them. More importantly, I've got every set, even those that were yanked off the market shortly after release. I'm waiting to see what DeepDiscount is charging before I order so I can compare the DeepDiscount price to Amazon's, but I'll definitely order before the October release date to ensure I get a copy. Service from Amazon and DeepDiscount as well as a few other Internet vendors like Buy.com is for the most part terrific.

Amazon not a discounter? I regularly order items from Amazon with discounts often as high as 20%, 25% and even 37%, sometimes even more. Amazon doesn't discount every item they sell, especially those that are relatively low in price to begin with or items on which they may be prohibited from providing a discount for some reason, but they discount a huge amount of their merchandise, especially those items with high mark-ups in list price over the price at which Amazon obtains them. Where possible, Amazon offers terrific discounts and in my experience, service is usually excellent.
