Heres also something taken from Wikipedia, which is not 100% reliable but we can hope its true

With a upcoming video game and possibly a third film, the TV series might be brought out in boxsets if the franchise once again becomes popular. Slashform.net has announced that Sony will release "big" news about the Ghostbusters francise at Comic Con 2008. The convention program features an interesting tease that features the classic Ghostbusters logo and “something exciting is coming to the neighborhood

There have been rumors of a completely CGI movie sequel for quite some time that some people are speculating might be the big announcement.  I hope we see season sets of the Real Ghostbusters sometime soon.

Yeah A CGI Ghostbusters wouldnt be top of my list for having be made, i mean itd be nice, I just want the toon released....according to that Tvshowsondvd.com which is a very reliable source, a multi-disc release of the real ghostbusters is coming out in the fall....presumably to coencide with the video game release.....but its strange because of the whole Sony ownership rights and they dont know who is releasing it....not that I guess it matters, just that at least its getting released.....if we get the ghostbusters toons on dvd, hopefully the 2009 release of the GI Joe movie will push the complete release of both GI Joe toon series.

I've spoken with Gord Lacey at TVShowsOnDVD.com about this report.  His source does sound reliable, but isn't one of the Powers-That-Be that would ultimately make a decision like this.  Until Gord gives us an official release from SONY, I'll reserve my enthusiasm.

"Until Gord gives us an official release from SONY"

But Brian, the story he posted said that this is NOT coming from Sony.  So why would THEY be the ones to announce it?

I wonder who IS doing it? (not Shout, I guess, giventhe way Brian's talking)

I bet TV Shows on DVD knows more than their saying right now...

My guess is there would be something of a joint announcement, knowing the folks at SONY in regards to a property like Ghostbusters.  I had a friend that wrote a several issue mini-series comic book for Ghostbusters and, while it was distributed by 88MPH, SONY was very hands-on in the approvals, etc.  I imagine they'll be the same way with these sets.

Gord knows very little more than he's telling.  Like I said, we've spoken and about all he knows is who his source is.  And he confided in me their occupation.  Until I hear something from someone a tad more in a position of authority, I'll hold out hope that those rights are still out there.
