Member since: 12/6/2007 | | Does it support Shout! Factory that much more if I order from their online store rather than Amazon or actual local stores? | I'm just curious if it makes that much more of an impact on the success of a DVD release if I order from Shout directly. If so, I'm willing to take a bit of a hit in the wallet to help an animated set succeed a little more, if possible.
Right now I'm definitely planning on picking up Sam & Max, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, and on the recommendation of Brian I'm going to pre-order the first volume of Oban Star-Racers (and if I like that one I'll buy Volume 2 soon after).
I'm debating adding other stuff to that list...My So-Called Life is the only thing live-action I really want from Shout! at the moment (I loved their Yearbook-style special limited edition of Freaks & Geeks, pre-ordered that before it came out and I still haven't explored all the extras. It's been lent out a lot though). But there's so much animation to buy it's intimidating...
Captain N
Maybe all the Super Mario Bros. shows some day (I'm a little Mario'd out at the moment as I'm taking a break from Mario Galaxy on the Wii)
Home Movies for my sister (but of course I'll watch 'em too--only seen a few eps on TeleToon up here)
Cops (not a priority at the moment, though I loved it when I was a kid)
The Legend of Zelda (also not a priority, but only because I just borrowed and watched it last summer--it's a huge reason for me wanting Captain N though, I need the Zelda continuation eps, aside from also loving most of Captain N)
And I'm extremely curious about all the Spike & Mike's Sick & Twisted Fest releases.
I got Sonic (the good one) off of Amazon along with a few other things in February but haven't had a chance to watch it yet (hmm, maybe tonight, finally some free time). I gotta point out that the interior package art was really cool though. I'm not crazy about the cover art, but the back of the box and all the interior stuff is really neat, there're some quality fan efforts in there and it's nice that you made them a part of it.
I've been watching this site and your releases for a while and it'd be extremely cool if Shout! continued to make a name for itself as the king of indie cartoon releases (and bigger names too, when you can wrangle the rights). Mostly I get alerted to all this through TVshowsOnDVD.com |

It probably falls into just a big financial shell game, but one could look at it this way.
1) Buy from Shout directly, they sell one unit.
2) Buy from Amazon and it puts their stock of the item one unit lower. Depending on how their inventory system works, you purchasing an item from Amazon could put their stock at a low level and as a result they may put in an order to Shout for X number of units. Basically you buying one item results in Shout selling X to amazon.com. Not sure if it even works like that, but it sounds good :).
Sounds like you purchased SatAM, would you have any interest in purchasing the current volumes of Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog which was a comical fun filled series that was quite enjoyable and a perfect companion to SatAM.
C.O.P.S may never see any future volumes due to questionable sales. Fans of the show may appreciate you purchasing your copy sooner than later to help add "another one for sales". Understandably the price is (or was) rather salty on Amazon.com :(. |

That's where I intend on buying Sam & Max, as well as Medabots, possibly. |

Factory DVDs from cause the end result of all that would be Shout! Factory reciving their money in order to produce more DVDs.

glexter, those sound like good points about Amazon (or buying from any online store, really). The only way buying from Shout might beat it out is if more of the profits from each DVD sold make it into Shout's coffers. With Amazon I imagine they sell it for significantly less at cost, and then Amazon sells it to the public for less than the suggested retail price. The prices seem pretty high or in some cases just normal in Shout's online store, so maybe since they've cut out the middleman (maybe), Shout gets more from DVDs sold from their own online store. Brian, do you have any suggestions ?
Thanks for the words about C.O.P.S. Even with the possibility of a second volume looking real slim, I'll still buy the first. If it takes five years to release the second and I really find myself wanting them, then I guess I just download or buy quality bootlegs.
No interest in Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog, the goofy version, sorry. I saw a few minutes of a few episodes when I was a kid, but it really wasn't my thing. And I can't get over the warped design of Robotnik and, just...no. I appreciate the fans' struggle to get the rest of it released, but sorry I can't help with that (unless buying Shout's other cartoons helps encourage them to take risks on other stuff, then I guess I'm helping a little, who knows).
Still interested in more opinions on the where-to-buy-to-best-support-Shout question, but I won't be putting another order through for cartoons until I've polished off or at least half-watched some of the other stuff I've got waiting. Might finally crack open Sonic tonight, plus there's Voltron and Best of Bravestarr and I can't remember how many others. |
