Me:
- 310 - Fugitive Alien
- 318 - Star Force: Fugitive Alien 2
- 604 - Zombie Nightmare
- 1004 - Future War

307- Daddy O (mainly for the fantastically funny accompanying short, 'Alphabet Antics')
611- Last of the Wild Horses (the only episode where the Mads get to riff on the movie)
621- The Beast of Yucca Flats (the last film in the Coleman Francis 'trilogy', and the only one not yet released)
706- Lasterblast (Dr. F's last episode, and the transition into the Sci-Fi years)
Again, for the guys at Shout, whatever you guys pick, I'll be happy with. This isn't a list of demands or anything like that. |

418 Attack of the the Eye creatures (I've always wanted to see this episode, Other than that I guess I just don't care)
620 Danger Death Ray (Heard good things)
910 Final Sacrifice (I've seen this episode once And when I saw it I knew it had to be released)
912 Screaming skull (I have a friend who says this episode was very good
Any things fine with me other than Magic Voyage of Sinbad, I never got why that episode was so popular. |

The Day The Earth Froze, due to the whole 'Sampo' thing they did. I wouldn't mind if they reissued the Shorts series on DVD in a collection.
And that's all that comes into memory at the moment. |

Member since: 3/24/2008 | | RE: What episodes do want on the first mst set? | Assuming Shout! is going the route of 4-episode sets, I've seen some great suggestions here I'm going to have to second, as well as two new suggestions of my own:
521 - Santa Claus. This to me is HANDS DOWN the funniest episode they ever did. Bar none. It's an annual tradition for my boyfriend and me around the holidays, as well
422 - The Day The Earth Froze. I've got a soft spot for this one, as it was one of the first episodes I ever saw. Plus, Fangarius is right - the whole Sampo thing was darn funny.
524 - 12 to the Moon. I saw this one for the first time in the past year or so and it took me by surprise how really, REALLY funny it was. I never see this one on "top favorite episodes" lists, and I wonder why it's so underrated. If you haven't seen this one, I recommend it.
611 - Last of the Wild Horses. I'll second this recommendation, not only because of the "Mirror, Mirror" conceit of the beginning of the episode, but also because it's just a good episode. Yes, despite it being a Western.
Runner-up: 813 - Jack Frost. I have to put this one on here because it's my boyfriend's favorite

This was something I kept wanting Rhino to do. Almost all of the shorts are in the public domain (the exceptions being the Gumby short from 912- The Screaming Skull, and possibly the 'General Hospital' shorts from Season 4), and although it would require re-releasing some material, a complete Shorts collection would be cheap to produce, and something that no loyal MiSTie could be without. |

More from the first season!
The Final Sacrifice (a must see, one of the best)
The Undead (it's Corman, but Digger Smolken's record is worth it)
The Killer Bees (how often does Crow write poetry?)
Operation Double 007 (The B-movie James Bond)
I Was a Teenage Warewolf
I could go on... |

Keep in mind that this isn't the bare minimum from Rhino anymore. At the rate that Rhino was progressing, it would have taken 20 years before the complete series was released. I have a sneaking suspicion that the first Shout Factory release might contain between 7-10 episodes (perhaps one from each season... and perhaps each sold separately as opposed to a box set). At least that's what I'd like to see. I just hope that if it is a box set, that it contains only one show per disc (I've already started to sort my Rhino episode discs chronologically by release in a 200-disc Case Logic CD/DVD album).
It seems that Brian has pretty much confirmed 706-Laserblast in one of the other threads. Thanks for the hint Brian. Great news. Now... how about the rest... please? :) |

Again, three are confirmed and we're expecting confirmation on the fourth shortly. I will also say that we're not relying strictly on the comfort and convenience of the public domain.
It does look like my "non-info" post earlier may have been a little ambiguous, unless, of course, you're familiar with a little Southern California event that takes place every year.

First off, I think a set of the four Russo-Finnish epics would be awesome! All are excellent episodes. At the very least, "The Day the Earth Froze" and "The Sword and the Dragon" are must-haves! These two are among the funniest episodes ever.
A few more truly classic, must-see episodes, just off the top of my head:
Santa Clause
Zombie Nightmare
Final Sacrifice (my personal all-time favorite!)
Jungle Goddess
Operation Double 007
The Magic Sword

Of course, that's just for starters.
I certainly hope we're going to get more releases than one set of 4 discs every 9 to 12 months. A faster release schedule than the one Rhino has been following would be very much appreciated. Thanks!

#804 - The Deadly Mantis - My favorite episode... ever!
#1008 - Final Justice - Mike's Joe Don Baker outing where he thinks he's going to get to escape because Joel got to escape when he was forced to watch a Joe Don Baker Movie.
I wouldn't complain if the set had any of the following in it as well (hell, I wouldn't complain about a new MST3K set period!!)
#107 - Robot Monster
#411 - The Magic Sword - I've never seen this one but I do own the actual DVD to the movie and it just SCREAMS for Joel and the bots.
#813 - Jack Frost - A Russo/Finnish production. 'Nuff said.
#903 - Puma Man - Probably the lamest super hero since Prince of Space (#816, and itself a totally wonderful episode from Rhino's Volume 7 Collection)
#904 - Werewolf - A movie made from beef, corn, onions... |

The Magic Sword is an excellent episode that I'd also love to see in commercial release. The movie is light fun and action filled and the MST3K crew has a lot of fun with this one. The host segment with the Estelle Winwood song by Crow is killer stuff. Every time I watch this one and Joel says "Terry, the sensitive knight" in a nasal twang as the magically reborn knights are introduced in the film, it really cracks me up. This one is pure fun from beginning to end with lots of memorable jokes and moments. A 5-star episode for me.
Another GREAT one I forgot to put on my wish list above, after all there are too many great ones, is The Magic Voyage of Sinbad. This Americanized, butchered version of a Russian/Finnish heroic tale ("Sadko") is beyond funny from beginning to end. I can watch this one repeatedly and often and never, ever get tired of it. Pure comic genius from MST3K.

To answer the question re: timely releases, we're already working on licensing films for the next sets. You can definitely expect more releases a lot sooner than Rhino would've provided them. The first set will come out later this year to ring in the 20th Anniversary and the second set, hopefully, will be expected to street sometime early next year.
Working on bonus features now and some awesome packaging for the 20th. You guys are in for a treat. Seriously, this is how MST3K was meant to be treated!

Thanks for the quick response. I am extremely happy to hear that once Shout Factory is up and running on this that the releases will come faster than they did from Rhino. The show is 20 years old as you know and we early fans of the show aren't getting any younger, so we'd like to get as many releases as possible as quickly as possible to have as many years to enjoy them as possible. Of course, many of us have turned our kids into MST3K fans too. I know my son will be happy to see more episodes soon! It saves me a lot of work and time transferring my own tapes to DVD, especially if I want to edit out the commercials, and professional releases provide better picture quality as well. The extra features you hint at sound promising and I'll be pre-ordering this set and the ones to follow as soon as possible!

Opperation Double 007 (those Bond knock offs are hilarious)
Master Ninja II (was already given a bootleg of the original)
The Day the Earth Froze (first episode I ever saw)
Robot Holocaust (I am a fan of Charles Band, uncredited producer for this film)
Question. Does MGM own ROBOT HOLOCAUST? I used to think so, but I never found out how MST3K was able to riff it in the first place. If it is, I'd like TIME OF THE APES.
Too much Joel though. Here's a Mike list.
Blood Waters of Dr. Z
Final Justice
Future War
Track of the Moon Beast
Unless some of these are already in the 20th Anniversary set. |

Not that I want Shout! to re-release episodes that are already out there (unless later they want to produce clean, uncut versions of the ones Rhino screwed up)....
I'm just concerned about the Shorts that Rhino released on their own. For instance, "Mr. B Natural" on Mr. B's Lost Shorts wouldn't kill the chances for the release of War of the Colossal Beast would it?
I did it for the kicks! |

This led to a recall of the entire set, despite the other three movies being usable. I was personally hoping they'd release a Volume 9.2 (like they did with Volume 10 when they lost the rights to the Godzilla movie), but they have since sold the MST rights to Shout. Anything at all, although the inclusion of any of the 1st 3 KTMA episodes would be great since those are the "lost" ones. I know it's a long stretch, but dammit, I still wants them.
If not though, I'm hoping for for the likes of the first and last episodes of the shows network runs:
101 - The Crawling Eye
706- Laserblast
801- Revenge Of The Creature
1013- Danger, Diabolik
Choosing between cake and death is easy. Choosing between GODZILLA VS MEGALON and death is not. |
