What do you guys think about the move from Rhino to Shout? Rhino was doing a good job with MST, I thought, but with Shout's reputation for taking care of their cult franchises, I think the change will be for the better. Who knows? With Mike, Kevin, and Bill already working on The Film Crew with Shout, maybe we can get some new extra features for the forthcoming sets, kind of like the '10.2 upgrade' skit that Joel, Frank, and Trace put together for Rhino's 'Volume 10.2'. |

Factory | Honestly, I like to think we're a little better than to take bonus materials created and used by our predecessors, but I do promise that we're looking into things that Rhino never even considered. And I know, because one of the producers of the Rhino sets now works for Shout! and he's incredibly hands-on with me. We have a serious wish list and we're pursuing it. You guys are gonna love it!
I'm excited...

Any guess as to when we can expect the first MST3K release from Shout Factory? Summer? Fall? Next year?
I just wanted to say that it's pretty cool that you're willing to share info with the fans on here. It's more than certain other companies do and I appreciate it.
Thanks.

This sounds like we're going to be seeing some re-issues of episodes that were originally released by Rhino, but with different extras. While it's within their power to do so, I hope that Shout! keeps these episodes to a minimum. As interesting as it would be to see what new extras Shout! could produce for episodes previously released by Rhino, I really, REALLY hate double-dipping.
That said, I hope that one of the "extras" Shout! is considering is including the un-MST'd version of the movie with each release. To me, this just seems like a no-brainer, and I wonder why Rhino only did it a few times and then stopped.
Just my .02....

So if you're missing some Rhino episodes, now's the time to get 'em! And as far as including the original movie, remember that most of the Rhino discs that did this were double-sided, which I frankly find obnoxious. And while it's nice to know the original movie is there, I personally never really bothered to watch it. I'm guessing Rhino figured remastering a second movie (in addition to the MST version), for something that most people aren't even going to watch, just wasn't worth the trouble. |

Member since: 2/5/2008 | | RE: Mystery Science Theater from Shout! Factory | Not all the discs with the original movie were double sided. The Brain That Wouldn't Die, Eegah, and The Beginning of the End weren't. Although the way that Eegah was done sucked. I hated the double sided discs too - more likely to be damaged and probably less expensive for them.
But what I really hated was that when they started getting to movies I would have loved to have unMSTied versions of - Manos, Sidehackers, Santa Claus Conquers the Martians, Girl in Gold Boots and Wild Rebels (!!! which isn't available on DVD on it's own except on the "grey market") they stopped!!!!
I wish one of the "extras" on the DVDs could be closed captioning - I have a friend who has been deaf since he was five and fell in love with MST3K - The Movie but now can't watch the show. But I realize that would be difficult.
