Any Hope of Cow Boys of Moo Mesa & MASK Being released on DVD?

Hi Guys,

I just wanted to say that I think you guys are doing a great with the shows from the DIC catalog thus fur. My ten year old brother is a huge fan of the COPS DVD and watches it every day.

I was wondering though if you had any plans for Cow Boys of Moo Mesa and MASK? These two shows were a great part of my childhood and I would love to own them on DVD.

Haven't heard anything about Cowboys of Moo Mesa lately. I can tell you that we tried to get M.A.S.K. from DiC, but they don't own it outright. There were all kinds of legalities surrounding that one, since it was based on a toyline, I'm sure. Sadly, we were unsuccessful in our efforts. It'd be nice to see on DVD, though. Still, cross your fingers. There's always hope that someday down the line, someone comes to their senses.

I've been wondering that about alot of series that were based on toylines, it seems that sometimes the animation studio owns the rights to the cartoons out right while other times the Toy company has a controlling interest in them. I believe that Kenner was behind the M.A.S.K. toyline, and I believe the they were bought out by Hasbro. That brings up another interesting question who has the rights to the Dic GI Joe series?

I know that Sony has the rights to the Sunbow one as well as the other Sunbow/Hasbro productions Jem, Transformers, etc. but what about the other toons. Could Sony have the DIC series and also have a say in any other series that is conected to Hasbro like M.A.S.K. as well? And if not then may there be a chance that Shout! might be able to work out a deal between Hasbro and Dic to get both MASK and their GI JOE released on DVD.

Also, concerning Cowboys of Moo Mesa, if the series ever does get released on DVD, I'd be one of the first people in line to order it. I love that show.

I don't know who owns the rights to DiC's series for G.I. Joe. It's possible that a mega-company like Sony owns it. If so, it'd be nearly impossible to wrangle it from them. They're only interested in giving away certain titles and those are usually titles they don't think will sell HUGE numbers. Otherwise, they'd simply release them themselves. I'll look into it, but M.A.S.K. is pretty close to impossible, since we've already attempted it in the past.

Believe me, I know. I was the biggest advocate of Shout! Factory releasing it stateside. But they just won't budge. And by "they", I mean the licensors. Just not happening. At least right now.

It never ceases to amaze me at what corperations will and won't do. It's a shame but hopefully M.A.S.K. will find it's way to DVD some day.

Knightmare again, I just thought of something; what if we did a fan petition to get it released and sent it to the rights holders that would show them that there is interest and a market for the show. It's worked with other cartoons and movies in the past so why not give it a shot?

Alright so who are the rights holders, that way we can send it to them directly. Or would it be better if we made the petition got everyone to sign and then sent it to Shout! so that you guys could present it to the rights holders?

That could be better, since we're not even sure who holds the rights.

Madman got the rights to release MASK in Australia, so clearly the rights to MASK can be obtained. I'm not sure what the trouble is.  Madman initially released the 1980s Astroboy series in Australia and then Manga Entertainment released it in North America.
