I seriuosly dont know why anyone hasnt put out either GI Joe series on dvd other than those 3 crappy boxsets Rhino put out years back, which were bad picture quality. Theres a GI Joe movie coming on in a few years, which actually the premise for it sounds crappy because it devaited from the orignal GI Joe genre in my opinion, but that cartoon was one of the top 2 if not the best toon of the 80's in my opinion. |

Spartakus would be great too. It has been released in France in a lovely box set, but no English track. Darn the French! they get all the great 80's cartoons in awesome box sets, but they never have the english tracks on them.
A few of the shows you listed are on DVD or coming soon to DVD.
MCOG is coming to dvd http://www.tvshowsondvd.com/news/Mysterious-Cities-Gold-Update/8660
M.A.S.K is on DVD in Austrailia and the UK. It's not R1, but it's the best MASK fans can do since Shout Factory's said they can't get the rights.

Some episodes of Dever the Last Dinosaur were released on DVD by World Events http://store.voltron.com
Galaxy High School, Fat Albert, and Filmation's Ghostbusters are all on DVD and available at Amazon.com. Bravestar is being released July 3rd by BCI.

Sorry about that. Ink and Paint's homepage is a year out of date. Still lists the July 3rd release date, but that's last year when the Best of was released.
Doesn't seem like BCI's announced a release date for Volume 2.

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Pole-Position/dp/B0014JGFFK/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1205007733&sr=8-1
If its already been produced for DVD in the UK, maybe that would make a release in the US easier.

Member since: 5/28/2008 | | RE: 80's & 90's cartoons | Volume 2 of Bravestarr is coming in July, and about a week or two ago the Bravestarr MOVIE was released as well. So there's plenty of Bravestarr out already, with the last batch coming soon. Definitely one I need to get off my arse and pick up...
As for other DiC shows, there's two in particular I would REALLY like to see: Pole Position (already mentioned, just chiming in my agreement) and Starcom: The U.S. Space Force. Both short series (13 episodes each) that could easily be done as 2-disc sets.
Speaking of Starcom, if this series DOES see the light of day at some point, I have two of the original commercials on tape (SP VHS) and could easily transfer them over to time base corrected DV format for inclusion if that's a possibility. |

Member since: 5/28/2008 | | RE: 80's & 90's cartoons | Well, the answer to that is simple enough. For people buying the complete collection sets (myself included), who don't want to shell out for the Best Of collection which is 90% material they already have. The standalone movie sells generally for less than 10 dollars.

I just figure most people who are going to buy the Bravestarr movie would have bought it when the Best Of came out before the Vol sets, because they didnt know the movie would be coming out later on by itself, the point being I just figured they wouldnt sell that many copies if a lot of fans already owned it.

Member since: 5/28/2008 | | RE: 80's & 90's cartoons | Actually, "Secret of the Sword" (the She-Ra movie you're talking about) HAS been released seperately. There's a market for both. Myself, I can't stand "Best Of" collections and never bother with them. So, unless it's a show I'm completely obsessed with, I'm generally not going to bother buying a Best Of collection of material I already have just to get one or two more extras. But if they release that additional material on its own, I'll most definitely pick it up.
Another example where this was done successfully was with M*A*S*H. The individual season were released first, followed by a Complete Series set that contained TONS of extras that weren't available anywhere else. Recognizing that fans who bought the season set individually probably wouldn't want to buy the whole seires over again, they released the extras in a seperate collection along with the series finale. There's different demand for different types of product.
In the case of all the examples we've been talking about, it's simply been a case of catering to all the different kinds of fans who would likely be buying the material. These companies KNOW that a lot of people out there don't like Best Of collections, so it's a ways to interest those types of fans by offering one more product for them to buy. So they're actually making MORE money, since they're now getting the fans who passed on the Best Of collections to buy something else. Of course, these are also much BIGGER companies than Shout Factory (BCI and Fox) so I suppose they an afford that kind of luxury. As a fan, I'm just happy to have the option of getting ALL the material available for a show in a variety of ways.

I dont own any she-ra, at all, my bro has all of it, and i have never heard anything about it being released by itself. I know what your saying about Best Of's, i own only one and thats Bravestarr and that was given to me as a Christmas gift by my bro, if i hadnt have gotten that i would have just bought the movie by itself. Yeah i know someone that owns that whole massive 36 disc MASH set, he bought the first 2 seasons then just waited till they all came out apparently and just bought that massive set |
