Mystery Science Theatre 3000
Congratulations on securing rights to this show form Rhino.  Can you look into requiring Godzilla vs. Megalon for a future release (since it was removed from further releases of Volume 10).  Also maybe you could look into releasing more movies/episodes then are now available on the sets (maybe in season format).

RE: Mystery Science Theatre 3000
Thanks, Milesdx.  I'm looking forward to beginning work on this as soon as possible.  Having been a fan of MST3K since its beginning and having already produced the four Film Crew titles, I can't wait.

You will never see season volumes of the series, I'm afraid.  That is, unless there's someone with REALLY DEEP pockets that just want to do it without the hopes of receiving a profit.  The films came from multiple studios and copyright owners and no one company can afford to license every single movie ever addressed by the MST3K gang in a single season.  That, sadly, includes us.

But we are ironing out some awesome plans for the upcoming first set and will start officially working on it very soon.  I promise you MST3K fans that you will NOT be disappointed.

Brian

How about some MST3K toys? I would love Crow, Tom Servo and Gypsy action figures. Mike and Joel... not so much. Gypsy should come with a little photo of Richard Basehart. You could release special editions of the dvd's with toys based on the episode (Chunk Ramrod from Space Mutiny, Torgo from Manos the Hands of Fate, Prince of Space and Invasion of the Neptune Men spring to mind).

To put this request in perspective, I have the Rhino sets 1 - 12, plus most of the singles. I will buy your stuff.

Hey Brian, I know it's a real long shot, but is there any chance of us getting the original MST3K episodes, as in the stuff that aired from 1988-1989 on KTMA TV23? The first 3 episodes don't exists within the fan copies and episodes 4-21 are in fairly low quality coming from VHS recordings dating nearly 20 years back. Fans have been begging for these KTMA episodes for a long time now.

Choosing between cake and death is easy. Choosing between GODZILLA VS MEGALON and death is not.

RE: Mystery Science Theatre 3000

Let me field this question.  Jim Mallon has mentioned this MANY times.  When the show aired on KTMA the station never really secured the rights to the movies which were riffed on.  So they never could be shown again for legal reasons.

It would be cool to at least make the "Host Segments" of each KTMA episode available.  But I've heard that the Best Brains crew sees those shows as their "test stage" and would rather fans remember them for their more "polished" form.

I have a question.  Is Shout going to start from scratch with the shows or are they going to release episodes already available from Rhino?

Will there be any kind of poll to determine which episodes get released? Because Some episodes like Final sacrifice, Danger death ray and attack of the eye creatures need to be released to dvd

I was really surprised and excited to hear ShoutFactory picked up the rights to MST3k, I know they'll do it justice!  First Freaks & Geeks, then Swamp Thing and now my favoriteist show of all time?  Now that's a great track record!

For those wanting to get an idea about what MST3k episodes are most likely to be released (in terms of rights), check out my Likelihood-for-Release list:

http://forrestcrow.proboards47.com/index.cgi?board=mstchat&action=display&thread=1152828151&page=1

or:

http://www.mst3kinfo.com/ward_e/listlikely.html (hopefully it will be updated soon).

I've tried to be thorough in researching information, but there's still plenty of holes to be filled and would love to eventually know what the people at Shout think about it.

Cheers!

That's great news! I'm looking forward to any and all forthcoming sets. I hope and pray for the release of The Amazing Colossal Man.

We were extremely excited to pick this title up.  Shout! Factory is a great home for MST3K and its fans (of which I'm included).  The beauty of it is that I own all 12 of the sets, as well, and, therefore, know EXACTLY what I would like to do differently.  And there's plenty.

But we're still coming down off the high of acquiring the series and are just now beginning to really plan out our schedule.  I can tell you that we're in no way interested in following up the Rhino releases with stuff they've already put out there.  We don't like to double dip, if at all possible.  Secondly, those original episodes have been thrown about the conference table in conversation.  We'd love to find a way to include stuff from that first season, but we can't make any promises.

We're looking into everything.  We're going to have fun with this series.  MST3K has never really been handled the way it should've been.  We know that and we're hoping to remedy it ASAP.

Stay tuned...

Brian

To Mr. Brian Ward,

I'm really sorry to bother in this thread about something unrelated but I could not get a reply from you in the other thread.  Anyway, my question is:  Do you still have any "Captain N the Game Master" Disc 3 replacement discs.  I just discovered about this correction recently and I'd really like to take advantage of this offer.  Please let me know what steps I would have to take and where I can send the disc.  Again, sorry everyone, for discussing this here.

Such amazing news!! Rhino has done a nice job for years, but Shout Factory does such high volume that maybe this will be an even better fit... Whatever you do, let's all keep the faith in MST3K and buy 'em up as quick as they hit the shelves... To the powers that be, a few requests of later episodes (they seem to be easier to get rights to?) that need -- nay, demand! -- to be released on DVD: WEREWOLF HORROR AT PARTY BEACH THE THING THAT WOULDN'T DIE I WAS A TEENAGE WEREWOLF DEVILFISH PUMA MAN THE SCREAMING SKULL Thanks dudes!

"The Amazing Colossal Man", is one I passed to get on VHS (for Pod People and Cave Dwellers) and when  I went back the next week to buy it, it was gone and out of print. But "Bride of the Monster" is the one episode that I've always felt DEMANDED to be put out just because it's such an ED WOOD classic.

 There's my Two cents...

Thank You....

Is Shout trying to get the rights to copyrighted films, or concentrating on those episodes that have fallen into the Public Domain (as Rhino did with their last couple of sets)?

Obviously, the easiest thing to do would be to go after the films that are public domain.  But we want these sets to be right and some of the best films are still under copyright and, therefore, need to be licensed.  At the moment, we've narrowed down our wish list and have both PD and non-PD films on it.  We should have a final list for our first set shortly.

Great news and bad news all at the same time. I missed the 9th set and the aftermarket prices can get ridiculous. Anyway, looking forward to see what you guys have planned.

May I suggest 310-Fugitive Alien and 318- Star Force-Fugitive Alien 2 for the first set?

RE: Mystery Science Theatre 3000

Glad to hear that a lot of thought and effort is going into which episodes to release and how best to give them a worthy DVD treatment. I hope speed of release is also an issue that Shout Factory will handle better than Rhino. One set of 4 episodes every 9 to 12 months is painfully slow with so many great episodes still unreleased. I own every Rhino DVD release so far (and all 4 Film Crew discs too) and would like to see a lot more coming a lot faster.

As for favorite episodes I'd like to see on commercial release, here's a brief wish list for starters: the Robert Lippert films from Season 2 (Lost Continent, Rocketship X-M, Jungle Goddess, King Dinosaur), Gamera films, Robot Monster from Season 1, Amazing Colossal Man and War of the Colossal Beast, Bride of the Monster, Warrior of the Lost World, 12 to the Moon, Outlaw (of Gor), Fugitive Alien and its sequel. Thanks!
