Future of DiC (2008 Edition)
Now that we seen Sonic Underground and Captain N & The New Super Mario World is out in stores, the news has been dead lately on future releases from the DiC library. Is there any that you can share, Brian, with us so what to expect for 2008?

I'm hoping shout cooks up a surprise report of dvd releases sauteed with mondo boxart covers and extras.

Maybe Shout will tell us that Brian Ward is under contract with DiC to make his own self-titled show.....

Or

Just doing business as usual....

Personally when looking at the list of Dic titles I think Shout for the most part has put out the most popular, i mean yes it is a risk anytime your putting a show out on dvd as to whether it will sell well or not, but I think Shout has put out the most recognizable shows out already, and even those had their probs selling, in my opinion the only ones left worth putting out from a profit point of view would be MASK, the Dic GI Joe series, and the real ghostbusters, the problem is other companies own the rights to those, so it wouldnt work.

Hmmm... What to expect for 2008...

You might wanna prepare yourself for Stargate: Infinity in May, the conclusion of Sonic Underground, possibly another volume of Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog...

Oh, and I'm currently gearing up to start work on Bump In The Night: The Complete Series.  Amongst other things.  It's going to be a pretty good year.

I was wondering if Stargate Infinity would eventually be released.  Maybe you can look into Alienators: Evolution Continues (another DIC cartoon series based on a live action movie)  Great to hear that the second volume of Sonic Underground is coming, can't wait to see the bonus features.  I really hope that the possibility of Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog is a strong one (really want the Chaos emerald Saga).  I have a feeling Bump in the Night won't sell well since it was an odd show.  So I'm glad were getting the complete series (which would mean 78 episodes right?).

Out of curiousity i looked it up and yes it says 78 episodes were made....how would Shout put that out all in one go? or would it be some sort of "best of"......not that i care about bump in the night, i was just wondering if Shout was changing something up.....i was 13-14 when bump in the night aired.....i remember flipping through Sat morning tv and seeing it on, i never watched it, but Bump in the night is another example of why i really dislike 90's toons...i mean if its after about '92 i really cant tolerate it, i occassionally glance at toons on Sat morning nowdays and just shake my head, maybe its cause i grew up in the 80's , but you have my vote too, i dont see Bump selling that well. It reminds me of that show that was about that time Reboot.......(shakes head)

I'm an 80s toon advocate as well growing up in that timeframe so I see your point....

Of course there are many toons i like from the 80s, 90s cartoons is what i like the most, it was considered my golden years in animation. Bump In The Night is great if you watch it more closely. I liked it as a kid and looking forward to it to come out on dvd.

The toons from the 80s havent been through the test of time for me, there are still some favorites like Thundercats that i still love, but sadly i dont recall alot of 80s toons that i still watch today.

78 parts, many were shorts splitting episodes in 2 or 3 though some filed the whole space. There was a Christmas Special that should be included. I imagine this will probably come to 26-35 episodes or there abouts

Ooh, Bump in the Night. Seems like a pretty obscure show to release, but interesting all the same.

Here's hoping to more Sonic Underground and Adventures!

And here's hoping for the release of all episodes of C.O.P.S. on DVD this year. As of right now, the latest tally of signatures on my C.O.P.S. petition is now up to 245 and things are really beginning to build up speed thanks to concerned friends and myself who linked my petition to many high traffic sites such as youtube, myspace, google and yahoo groups, C.O.P.S. HQ, and this site considered to be the first C.O.P.S. fan site on the web.

By the time Super Tuesday rolls around, I'll be up to my armpits in petition signatures-- totaling up to 5,000 of them, I hope.

B Ward,
How did Sonic Underground Volume 1 and Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog Volume 1 sell? Did Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog Volume 1 and Sonic Underground Volume 1 sell very well for them to produce and release Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog Volumes 2 and 3 and Sonic Underground Volume 2? Can you please put the remaining 40+ episodes on Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog Volume 2 on DVD? Thank you.

RE: Future of DiC (2008 Edition)

Allow me to take a shot at this Johnny and come up with a post that addresses both of ours. Brian is fairly good about responding to peoples posts, so long as they are respectable and don't demand private information about the company or its business model. I feel that if we come up with well thought out questions that took us time to write, he will provide us with the same courtesy.

Brian, your post above suggests that Shout has in store for us the final volume of Sonic Underground as well as "possibly" another volume of Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog. Based on my interpretation of your "tone" on your post and from reading previous posts, you have hinted that wrapping up Sonic Underground would not be as difficult as other Shout TV shows, since it would only require another volume of 2o episodes to conclude that series.

AoSTH, like Cops falls into that category where there are A LOT of episodes, 60+ and that releasing a single massive 8 - 12 disc box set wouldn't be practical. As Jonny mentioned, future volumes of AoSTH were dependant on how strong sales were on the first volume (and Super Mario Bros 3/Adventures of Sonic the Hedgehog combo). Understandably it’s none of our business how many units were sold of the first volume and combo pack, but you had hinted that a second volume could be on the horizon. Without any sales data to backup my thoughts, my concern was that AoSTH would make it to a second volume, but because Volume 1 was only a moderate success, Volume 2 would fall short of financial expectations, this killing any chance of a Volume 3. In this scenario, Volume 3 would only be produced to appease fans, but at a financial loss to the company. Making money is the name of the game, and no company would take a hit just to please its fans.

It still sounds like there could be a chance that AoSTH fans could be left with an incomplete series, even if Volume 2 does make it to store shelves. I am not expecting you to say "Don't worry fellow AoSTH fans, if we make it to two, we will definitely go for three". Would it be impractical for the second volume of AoSTH to contain the remaining 40+ episodes? I would also like to gingerly ask if it would be impractical for shout to produce limited edition DVD's (of Cops, Carmine and Sonic) that were sold exclusively on the Shout website and limited to 3000 units (Similar to Varese Sarabade)?

Naturally I understand that the most practical answer is going to be a lets wait and see what develops over the next couple months, but thank you ahead of time for any information you can provide and for keeping us fans in the loop.

B Ward,

Will Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog Volume 2 on DVD be released containing 44 episodes or Volumes 2 and 3 containing 44 episodes? Is Sonic Underground Volume 2 coming out on DVD containing the final 20 episodes? Thank you.

From,

Jonny
