When they took these cartoons off YouTube, I thought I'd never get to see them again! The Shout guys truly went the extra mile, getting creator Steve Purcell to do the case art (three all-new paintings!) and even hunting down the 3 hilarious short films from Fox Kids. Congratulations, Shout. You've done the dog and rabbity-thing proud. |

This is the best entertainment for me, and it's not too inappropriate for my little girl when I'm trying to get her to sleep. The problem is the sound effects often rival the noise of the voices, so I'd have to watch it pretty loud to catch all the dialogue, which doesn't work well.
The DVD transfer looks beautiful, sounds great, wonderful show to begin with ... but I just miss that extra bit of flexibility. |

Apparently, the only time Shout adds subtitles is if the original studio can provide them. And, after all, it's better to have the set without subtitles than no set at all. |

Member since: 8/2/2008 | | RE: Sam & Max Freelance Police For Hire | Absolutely. But the shame is ... I'd Netflix'd just the first disk of the series, and couldn't really finish without the subtitles. It was just too much. With subtitles, though, I would've strongly considered buying the series for myself and at least two other friends I think would appreciate it - -but also have to get kids to sleep.
It was even worse for my wife, who speaks better English than I do, but she isn't a native English speaker and sometimes has a hard time breaking out words from noisy backgrounds -- and the FX sounds are typically louder than the speech in the cartoon. So she couldn't get into this at all, but when I repeated some of it for her, she laughed.
It's a shame the economics didn't work out for subtitles, but it might have expanded the market in some surprising ways. |

I'm printing these pages out and binding them. For a fan of the Freelance Police, this is a treasure trove of information. That's what I love about you guys: you go the extra mile for shows that other companies don't bother with. You guys rule! |
