Member since: 12/6/2007 | | Brian rocks | I only started checking out these boards a few days ago, but I can see that Brian Ward was hinting at the possibility/probability of this series seeing release after so many fans on here were asking for it.
I never saw it, or if I did it's one of the few DiC cartoons I have zero memory of. Heard good things about it though, so it'll be great to finally get my hands on it. I will definitely be picking this up in March upon release, maybe I'll even pre-order.
Further motivating me to buy this one quick is learning of the reason why COPS (animated) has only seen one set release so far. Sometimes I've seen animated DVD sets have other problems (the `89/90s original Ninja Turtles cartoon only got a Season 1 release in Canada due to rights issues I believe--you had to buy the States releases if you wanted to keep getting the rest for a while there, which wasn't that big a deal). I just figured COPS had had some rights issues or maybe the company wasn't doing so well or something (I didn't know that COPS was put out by Shout!, the same folks who did an unbelievably awesome job with the Freaks & Geeks Complete Series Yearbook DVD set).
There are a lot of Shout Factory releases I would have snatched up already if I had simply seen them in stores (and I'm always browsing the TV-on-DVD, anime, and kids' section in my local HMV, Best Buy, Toys R Us, Future Shop, etc). I've seen The Legend of Zelda Complete Series set a couple times, but it was a bit pricey and I ended up borrowing it off a co-worker eventually. I still intend to buy it on Amazon for a more reasonable price.
What I really want right now is the "SatAM" Sonic The Hedgehog series (the dark one, not the goofy and arguably lame "Adventures" series). No trace of it from what I've found so far though.
And Captain N. Not only because it continues and sort of completes Link & Zelda's (and Ganon's!) animated stories, but because I had insane love for that show when I was 8-9. I wasn't planning on buying Mario as well, but since I'll need to buy the Captain N/Mario World combo pack to get at the end of the former series, I might as well pick up my favorite Mario show that preceded World, Super Mario Bros. 3. The original Super Mario Brothers Super Show (combining elements of the first two Mario games), I'm not too keen on. Guess I can skip those, even though there's a slight bit of continuity (but mostly just the fact that in SMB3, it references that the brothers had fought Bowser/King Koopa previously). |

Member since: 12/6/2007 | | RE: Brian rocks | Thanks dude, yeah I know they were both released earlier this year. The sad thing is, I haven't seen them in stores, at all, the many times I've checked. Not just at my local mall and big box electronics stores in the area, as well as Blockbuster and Rogers Video...even in other towns and right down in Canada's biggest city, Toronto...nothin'. I'm sure they exist somewhere in the city, just not at any of the places I looked.
I wish there was an electronics store specifically for nerds that housed every cartoon on the market.
No worries, I've applied for a Visa (maybe not the smartest thing to advertise that online, but ah well). So once (if?) that gets approved, I'll be able to order off of Amazon and the like again. I can even order direct from Shout! Factory ?
Does it make a difference, as far as supporting a particular franchise, where I buy it from ? Brian ? 'Cause if it's only a few bucks difference, I'll get it direct from the source instead of more cheaply at Amazon, if that helps in any significant way.

Member since: 12/10/2007 | | RE: Jayce and the wheeled warriors | Yay, I'm very much looking forward to that. One thing though... While the series never wrapped up its storyline, after it ended J. Michael Straczynski was commissioned to write a movie to do just that. Ultimately, it was never produced, but Straczynski has the completed script, so might you investigate the possibility of obtaining it and including it as an extra? Right now would be the perfect time, since with the writer's strike going on, Straczynski will be far more likely to have time to deal with you guys.

If we produce them, ship them out to stores, and they don't come back to us, we consider it a victory and that helps in leaning toward future volumes.
As for the feature script from Mr. Straczynski, I actually have it already and might consider including it on the final volume. But that's ONLY if Mr. Straczynski approves. He's refused to make it public in the past, due to the nostalgic and emotional importance to himself and I would never want to be the guy that ruined that for him. I will say that the script, while never officially approved by DiC--it was abandoned before the last two acts could be approved--, is really quite good!

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: Jayce and the wheeled warriors | It's definitely not going onto the first volume. After all, that wouldn't make a lot of sense, seeing how the series would have concluded without seeing the latter half of the episodes. If it goes onto any set, it'll be the second volume.

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: Jayce and the wheeled warriors | Yeah, we've got some really cool concept art. And we're not talking about the model packs and stuff you've seen on some of the previous sets. We're talking legit concept art. You should see some of the concepts they had for the Monster Minds before they settled on their finals. Some pretty great stuff. We even have a few logo treatments dated back to when the show was called...well, you'll see.
We also have two printable scripts. One is the pilot script, "Escape From The Garden," by Haskell Barkin. The second is the first script written by J. Michael Straczynski called "Steel Against Shadow."
Unfortunately, with 33 half-hour episodes, it's hard to fit a lot of bonus material onto four discs.

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: Jayce and the wheeled warriors | Some shows warrant bigger releases. In the case of Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, even though there are nostalgic fans buying the set, as well, we were really aiming at it being a children's release. Twenty-two episodes is a far better number for younger audiences.
In the case of Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, which isn't as cartoony or geared toward super young audiences, we decided to go with a more adult-themed release, in that we knew they could handle more episodes. Plus, while I think we could probably justify three volumes of Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog, Jayce probably needs to be wrapped up in a maximum of two, if we hope to get the complete series out.
Keep in mind that the more information on the discs, the lower the bitrate in which the episodes are encoded. Jayce is PACKED and, therefore, is encoded at a slightly lower bitrate. Before people jump in and say, "that means it won't be good quality," I can assure you that while the bitrate is slightly lower, we've made sure we've not compromised the quality of the show in order to fit more episodes onto the set. While these episodes might show a bit of their age, they look pretty darn good for a show produced in 1985.

Confusing isn't it? Besides I haven't seen a R2 release of any Shout DVDs as different companies (e.g. Delta) released the products anyways.
