Captain N and the New Super Mario World: Impressions

Well the day has finally come and Captain N and the New Super Mario World was released on DVD by Shout.  I was curious on everyone’s impressions of the DVD set.  The video quality and sound are of decent quality, no higher or lower than any of the previous Mario/Sonic Shout Cartoons.  The special features consist of the usual concept artwork and storyboard comparisons.

Shouts DVD menu system is rather helpful in that you have the option to “play all” of the Captain N and Mario cartoons together, or each series separately (but all at once, one after another).  If you look at the master list of both Captain N and Mario cartoons, you can select each episode separately (obviously), though one nice addition is that highlighting the name of the episode will tell you if it is from the Captain N series or the Mario series.

The menus are simpler and much faster to get into, though you will have to sit through some promo spots for Captain N (The complete series?), Mario 3, and SatAM.  Sadly I was hoping there was going to be a spot for Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog as well.

Overall, it is a nice package with a decent presentation at a good price perfectly complimenting the release of Super Mario Galaxy and Mario and Sonic At The Olympics.  Did others agree, disagree?

RE: Captain N and the New Super Mario World: Impressions

Today's the day I have time to pick it up...

Unfortunately, I didn't have the time on tuesday to pick up a copy. I'll probably go out and buy it later on or in alittle bit. It's glad to hear there arent any glitches in the set.

Thanks for the info.

Time to add another spectactular show to my cartoon collection once again.

also there are some preview clips of an episode when you highlight the title, for example if you highlight fire sale on disc 1 you see a preview clip of that episode. too bad that it couldnt be done for all the episodes on the lists. btw i love the music that was playing in the background in the menu screens.

Both discs feature the same artwork (one uses a blue background, the other a yellow however).  The artwork shows the Captain N and Super Mario World logo at the top and a "line" of characters from both franchises at the bottom.  The bottom from left to right features these characters (Kevin, Lana, Simon, Yoshi, Mario and Luigi)

The artwork inside the case is the same for both cases.  It features a the main characters from each series in sort of a family reunion style layout (larger characters in the back and smaller in the front).  The characters are not colored, but rather black and white outlines.  Likewise with the discs, one background is blue, the other yellow.

The front of case 1, shows Mario and Kevin and case 2 is Lana and Yoshi.  The backs of the slipcase show the episode list in the middle with sketches of the characters drawn around the border.  The backs don't use the same character drawings.

The package is attractive, just simple.  I think you will enjoy the series and the package lives up to shouts standards.

Ah so far, as i just finished watching Episode 2, i'm impressed with the quality overall (not surprised with the previous release). There was only one very small glitch that happened durning a Captain N episode, but other then that....this is exactually what i was wanting for Captain N & Super Mario Bros 3, but i'm happy we got all the episodes of mario and captain n finally without further delays. I'll post my full review mostly likely by the end of this day....since i can burn through this series on my day off.

Well, *sigh*, now my review will have to wait. My disc has a skipping problem. I'm gonna have to ship this set back and get a new one. Does it skip on anyone at the Baseball Know It All episode? Tried cleaning it three times, dont help.

Pretty good release. The only real complaint I have is the preview videos that show when an episode is highlighted. The disc needs time to boot up the preview every time an episode is highlighted, and it really makes it a chore to select a certain episode.

Other than that though, a great release. Kudos, guys. :)
