Hello and How about Richard Diamond, Private Detective starring the great David Janssen

First off let me introduce myself. My name is Scott and I am a huge classic TV fan. I have purchased Dennis the Menace, Leave it to Beaver, Kojak, Police Story and Ironside DVD's manufactured by Shout and have never been disappointed. In addition, I want to thank Shout Factory for helping to keep classic TV alive by continuing to release seasons of shows that the parent companies have given up on or have little to no interest in. Great job guys.

Second, I want to cast a vote for the possibility of Shout Factory getting the rights to release season sets of Richard Diamond, Private Detective starring my favorite TV actor of all time, the great David Janssen. This is a frequently forgotton Janssen series which ran for four seasons between 1957-1960 consisting of around 77  half hour episodes. This series introduced Janssen to TV viewers on a regular basis before he went on to superstardom as the star of The Fugitive in the 1960's.

This is excellent news Brian. Apparently, Richard Diamond is better remembered than I thought. Thanks again.

Excellent news Brian. After the deception that SHOUT isn't planning to release the last season of Mister Ed, knowing that we'll be able to see complete seasons of Richard Diamond, Private Detective is Great. Thanks SHOUT

Sorry, guys.  Unfortunately, someone decided to impersonate me again.

At this time, we don't have any plans for this series on DVD.  Sadly, precisely because it's the kind of series that's often forgotten, it's not the kind of thing we can afford to release presently.  Once the economy is better and people are spending more freely on smaller or less remembered shows, we can look into shows like this more thoroughly.

Similar to this Richard Diamond series is the '50's Mike Hammer series which was released just recently in it's entirety by the very unlikely company, A&E.  I never would have expected A&E to release this, so maybe A&E would release Richard Diamond, or even better Harry O?   Or even better if Shout could release Harry O in a complete series set, it was only on for 2 years.  Come to think about it, I think Warner MOD may be thinking about this, they released one of the pilot Harry O movies last year.  Oh well, A&E still might consider Richard Diamond if someone suggests it to them.

Split ownership makes a complete release impossible. The series is divided upon between Four Star (now owned by Fox) and CBS. Good luck waiting for this one to happen.

A handful of episodes have been released on budget PD labels.  I'm not sure how many eps of Richard Diamond are considered public domain, but perhaps if someone contaced Alpha or Mill Creek we could get at least a few more shows released if not full season sets.  BTW, Mary Tyler Moore had one of her first roles in this series.  She played the secretary Sam, whose face was never seen, but whose sexy legs and voice were featured.  She is only in, I think, the first 13 shows before being replaced by another actress.

None are PD. Any you see out are bootlegs.
