Super Mario World is a seperate series which will also have the last 7 Captain N episodes and I think you can buy it in Australia but it may/may not come out unless sales of the above are high. |

Oh, just for the record...
Super Mario Bros 3 has exactly 13 half hours episodes, as does Super Mario World. Taking into account that each Super Mario Bros Super Show set had 24 episodes each, including the 4 "bonus episodes" on set 2, I think some type of "All Stars" set would be perfect for the 2 remaining shows, given the episode total of 26. I may not have the greatest business sense, but I think that one set for both remaining shows would do better than 2. Just an editorial. :)

The fate on Captain N Season 3 and Super Mario World all depends on sales. But thinks look good since Captain N is getting big support from Nintendo themselves. They even have a contest on their website.

As for the third season of Captain N and The New Super Mario World, I'm afraid there's a little more than just sales holding up production on the set. The character of Yoshi is a very sensitive subject around DiC and Nintendo. Don't know why, but anytime someone brings up the subject, eyes go wide and people get quiet. I'm guessing that until those "issues" are resolved, we won't be touching Captain N & The New Super Mario World. Here's to hoping it happens soon!

But i dont think really thats the reason why they wont let the dvd be released. If you ever find out the reason, please let us know. Hopefully at least Season 3 of Captain N can come out by itself if Super Mario World cant be released. Its weird cause all the episodes were released internationally but then again i bet its Nintendo of America keeping it from being released and their nintendo is not that strict.

B Ward, I have a few notes about Super Mario Bros. 3 that I have been wondering. When the episode Kootie Pie Rocks was rerun, all the music that was played, one of King Koopa's lines and the ending was cut; these cuts also appear on the European DVD (except the music in Dutch mode), will the boxset be the original version or the cut rerun? Also if you get the episodes, check Oh, Brother! and Misadventure of Mighty Plumber as the DVD releases were "jumpy and unstable picture" and check for a picture glitch after the Part 1 fadeout until Kooky says, "The Lame Brainer" and puts the helmet on Mario in Oh, Brother! in case the rerun route was chosen (it's like a rolling picture, then a digital breakup, then a sound clip, then picture breakup again and settles back to normal).
I have watched the show quite a lot in the last few years (on and off until last year) and only started to watch it 3 years ago. |

The show was altered heavily once the Milli Vanilli scandal went down. Though I haven't seen the master, I'm assuming we'll be releasing the NON-Milli Vanilli version. Unfortunately, the music is impossible to license and, let's be honest, the "incident" kinda made everyone associated with MV blush with embarassment.
I'll confirm once I know for sure, but I will say that I can't imagine being able to use the Milli Vanilli version of the episode. Sorry, guys!

Why should it cost that much? I believe the episode originally aired just a matter of days AFTER the whole "incident" happened, and I think it just makes the episode funnier because of all that. Plus, it serves to demonstrate what TERRIBLE taste Wendy "Kootie Pie" Koopa has in...

That's okay. I'm used to the non-Milli Vanilli one anyways even though it was one of my disliked episodes (made no sense). It would be great if the original was on, but I understand. Brian, have you checked to see if the problems I've mentioned above are on the masters?
LaughingMan008: The reason is costs so much is because it's proper music, no matter who sung it or the melody. I've listened to the tracks, yep it's awful even for the shows standards (like I'm a Hurricane or Ninjaman even if I like them ones)
Now I'm curious about special features, hoping that an interview of one of the cast either Mario (Walker Boone) on how he took over Captain Lou's role, or Luigi (Tony Rosato) or King Koopa. Also I would like to know the order of the episodes, whether production (Reptiles in the Rose Garden to The Venice Menace), original run (Sneaky Lying Cheating Giant Ninja Koopas to Super Koopa) or syndication run (mixture of the two) but I suppose it's too early to know and it doesn't really matter.

As for Yoshi, I'm afraid there's really nothing else to say. I'm only told that there are legalities behind the character. My guess--and it really is only a guess, so no one read into it--is that the character isn't entirely owned by Nintendo. If that's the case, it would require additional sign offs for home video distribution. Until we know for sure and everything's taken care of, I'm afraid Captain N & The New Super Mario World will only be a title that we sit back anxiously awaiting release.
Personally, I can't wait to work on it.

Brian, by any chance is there any possibility of getting the unreleased live-action segments from The Super Mario Bros Super Show included as extras on this set? I know the four from SMBSS Volume 2 aren't possible because of rights or some other problem (thanks for making sure the cartoons were still there though), but most of the live-action Mario segments that went with the Legend of Zelda cartoons were left off the Legend of Zelda DVD set (nine or ten, if I recall correctly). Any chance of those?

I'm not sure DiC wants to go back into the hassle of trying to clear something they couldn't get cleared for the previous sets, but I wouldn't say it's an impossibility. I will say that it's something I've considered already, so we're all thinking along the right track.
Will there be more Carmen? Dunno, to be honest. The first set isn't flying off the shelves, but I'd love to re-visit it. I thought the show was pretty good. It originally aired after my time, but I easily would've tuned in to watch had I know it was that good. Once again, word of mouth does WONDERS.

I know some episodes had real songs in them (at least versions of real songs that sounded like they were being sung by the koopa kids) and when the episodes were on TV several years after the original airings, the songs had been edited out with guitar music in their place. I bought a Mario DVD called "King Koopa Katastrophe" last year which had a few episodes on it, and they were all the original versions with the songs. So will this set have the original versions as well? |

The cost of licensing music is very expensive and episodes I know that will be replaced are Mind Your Mummy Mommy Mario, The Beauty of Kootie, Princess Toadstool for President, Reign Storm and Toddler Terrors of Time Travel (even though that was a parody song, but still replaced). Besides the Princess Toadstool for President one is lost forever (as this is the only song not on the PAL releases) I think, could be wrong though.

We will have a number of songs that certainly sound like they're being sung by Koopa's offspring, but they aren't pop tunes. They're original songs written specifically for the show. Due to the cost of licensing music, there will be no licensed pop hits included. Unfortunately, it's jus the cost of doing business and getting shows like these out to the fans.

Oh, another Milli Vanilli question....
I remember, that in the cut version, their names are edited out....
I imagine that just sounds awkward. And there are lines of diolague that are also cut out, for example, Koopa once says "Don't blame it on the rain, blame it on the Koopa!" or something to that effect. LOL. Would you be keeping those cuts? I don't imagine there would be any extra cost to keeping them, without the music. But I could be wrong. Just curious....
It could be worth the effort to make your own cut of the episode. |

The Australian ones are the syndicated cuts, i.e. no references to Milli Vanilli, change of music. Them are the same ones that were aired on POP (UK channel) a couple of years ago. Besides if you are importing the European ones, keep in mind that the ending is cut; but more closer to the original.

Member since: 2/13/2007 | | RE: Super Mario Bros 3 & Super Mario World | Something I've always been curious about has been why the Koopa Kids have different names in the show then they did in the game. There have been three main theories about this that I've heard:
1. DiC couldn't get the rights to the Koopa Kids original names.
2. The show went into production before the game was released and before Nintendo had officially named the Koopa Kids, so DiC had to come up with their own names.
3. The original Nintendo names for the characters didn't match their personalities on the show, so DiC made up new names for them.
So, does anyone here know which theory is true? I've always wondered this. Thanks. |

He was a very simple sprite in the original Mario Bros, and they kind of combined him with Wart from Mario 2 because they didnt have all the info on the character. |

Unfortunately, there doesn't appear to be a paper trail giving an answer to the question about the Koopa Kids' names. It may be one of those things we just never know.

You are really on top of things and work fast. I just want to know if there are any new developments or info you can share about the box set. I know I have been asking lots of questions lately, but I'm not a very patient person.
The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 Complete Series DVD Boxset is coming SOON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Nothing incredibly new to report. DiC and Nintendo have approved my idea for the third bonus disc. We're just discussing what it should be called. Ominous, huh? As soon as I know for sure, I'll talk about it a little more. Getting really excited about it.
The menus are looking fantastic! The menu designer, the same guy I've used for just about all my DiC projects, says they're probably his favorite so far and if you've seen the Inspector Gadget, Sabrina: The Animated Series, or the upcoming Sonic menus, that's saying A LOT!
I'll certainly keep you guys up to date. Thanks for reading!

The next DiC series that I'll be working on is, in fact, The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3. We're looking at the possibility of a 3-disc set that will include all 13 episodes and lots of cool bonus features. Brian

Member since: 1/20/2007 | | RE: Super Mario Bros 3 & Super Mario World | Apparently I have read on other forums that B Ward goes to that they (being DiC) are not allowed to split up the series. This is a quote from Ultimate Warp Zone from him:
"We were contractually required to call the set "The Complete Series." And, technically, it is. I know what you're all about to say... "There was a third season." Correct. However, there were two seasons of half-hour episodes. The second season was partnered with The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3, but did NOT technically share a show. It shared an hour-long block. According to the powers that be, the two series were officially separate entities. Therefore, Captain N: The Game Master had two full seasons. The third season was part of a half-hour series called Captain N & the New Super Mario World. A completely different series compiled of two 11-minute cartoons."
Also from my research that the 3rd Season of Captain N had different production codes compared to the previous seasons (such as 10xB while Super Mario World were 1xxA for example) so they were a shared series. Might be wrong.

No, that's absolutely right. That series had its own production code. It was a separate entity altogether.

Member since: 1/20/2007 | | RE: Super Mario Bros 3 & Super Mario World | | I am not Brian but I can help. It will have all 26 episodes, it will be released June 5th and priced at $29.99 (but you can get it cheaper). I don't know the special features but it will be on the 3rd disc (which means plenty). As for sales of the Super Show, Volume One was Shout Factory's second biggest selling DVD which means a good sign. I'm afraid that Super Mario World may not come out due to problems with Yoshi which I do not (nor Brian) know but they are sorting that out so don't worry the Super Mario trilogy will be complete soon hopefully. |

I'm hoping the DVD cover will yellow like original SMB3 NES box. |

I heard of people that did get the Captain N DVD and they didn't like the fact that it wasn't the complete series and that's all they are ever gonna release. I mean I know that it isn't Shout's fault for not having the rights to put them on the DVD but one thing that I should ask is that Did you really have to call it The Complete Series? |
