Granted, but there are certain things I can infer using logic. Sony shows have been licensed to Shout in abundance lately. Fox, on the other hand, doesn't seem to be doing business with Shout very much. Easy to jump to a conclusion there. If it's the wrong conclusion, then you can't blame us for seeing what seems to be obvious.

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: The Facts of Life | Just because we're still releasing series from Sony doesn't mean they weren't part of a larger, early overall deal. I'm not saying our relationship with Sony isn't better than our relationship with Fox. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with our relationship with Fox. Perhaps we're not pursuing too many Fox titles right now. Maybe we've pursued 50 to no avail. Maybe we've been in on an ongoing set of negotiations for months. What I am saying is that coming on as a consumer and talking about the status of business relationships, inferred only by our recent release schedule, is about as reliable as anything else on the internet.
I'm not trying to be a codger here, but these things tend to get blown out of proportion. People come here or go to TVShowsOnDVD.com or the Home Theater Forum and talk about relationships they know nothing about and then that gets spread around as if it's gospel. Those rumors also tend to get attached to people like myself, who openly discusses our releases with fans here. And occasionally, those rumors--with my or any one else's name attached--get back to the licensors. And sometimes, that DOES tend to damage otherwise good relationships.
We've not released many Fox titles recently. Doesn't mean our relationship with them is bad. We've released a few Sony titles recently. Doesn't mean our relationship with them is better. And speculation without merit outside of the obvious is fairly irresponsible.

Member since: 12/9/2008 | | RE: The Facts of Life | Brian, I don't mean any harm to you, but the reason I brought up the relationship with you and Fox, is because some people over at Home Theater Forum were detecting a pattern about the way Fox deals with indies, and were indicating that all sings were pointing to a dispute. There was also one person there who brought up the possibility about there being something going on behind closed doors that none of the parties want to disclose to the consumers.
And the same thing also happened with VCI and the TV show they were releasing, Burke's Law. I take it you're not too familiar with that situation.
Again, I don't mean any harm to you, I was just bringing up what some people on Home Theater Forum were speculating. If there was any misunderstanding on my part, and the part of those HTF folks, I apologize. |

Hey Brian, thanks for the update. Are you willing to indicate whether you are interested in and still attempting to get future seasons of FOL (without divulging any details as to why they are 'increasingly difficult to get')? Or is it more accurate to say that you're not really pursuing it anymore, due to the increased difficulty? |

Season 6 might not be a music issue as we thought it was! Remember we all thought it was about the episode "Cruisin" with all of the songs in that one (WHICH WERE ALL COVER VERSIONS, BY THE WAY)? Well, what if it's involving the episode "The Last Drive In"! You have clips from the movie "Whatever Happened to Baby Jane" (OWNED BY WARNER BROS) and a clip from Woody Woodpecker (OWNED BY UNIVERSAL)! Two different studios own the clips you see on that episode, which the show is owned by SONY!
NOW WE SEE WHAT THE HOLD UP IS! Just my thought for the day!

What I hate is how they release the first season of shows, see that it doesn't sell well, and then cancel the rest of the release. For most shows, the first season isn't as good as the later seasons. In some shows, the first season is absolutely terrible.
With the Fats of Life they were smart enough to release the 1st and 2nd seasons together. (The 1st season was a complete bomb and they reworked the entire show for the 2nd season, where it became pretty decent). That should be the standard practice, unless the 1st season is considered really good. |

While I don't have any interest in Facts Of Life on DVD, I do remember the first season was kind of a mess. And I hope they continue it through the end for the people that bought the earlier seasons.

I agree that it was a good idea to sell the Facts of Life first season with the second season. The first season stunk though there were a few episodes I enjoyed. The second season was terriffic. I like having the first season because it's cool to see how much everybody changed throughout the show. Sony really needs to wake up and see that people would buy the remainder of the show, and that they WOULD make money off of it. |

What is the latest if any news on Seasons 6-9 of FOL? There hasn't been any response from you since the end of October. I know you are very busy and the FOL isn't your only project to keep up with, but would it be possible for you to keep us up to date possibly monthly, even if there is no news, just to keep the fans updated. Or if all attempts to get the show are now over, please let us know this as well. Thanks! |

Yes please if you could provide us with an update on FoL that would be fantastic. Season 6 is my absolute favorite of the series and I check daily for an update. I know you are a very buy man as jimforJESUS pointed out, but any kind of hope would be awesome, or as he mentioned if all attempts have come to an end that would be good to know as well. Sad, but good to know.
I appreciate the way you have always kept us posted, so hoping you can shed some light on the remaining seasons here.
Thank you much, as always!!
Peace, Cole |

Member since: 7/20/2011 | | RE: The Facts of Life | | This really stinks! I know that it isn't Shout! Factory's fault, but I REALLY want the rest of the series on DVD! Some of my favorites are in Season 6, like "Slices of Life" and "Christmas in the Big House." I just don't understand why Sony won't release their classic TV library, or at least license the shows out to companies like Shout!, who could do the fans justice. I was really relying on having the entire series run on DVD, seeing as how The Facts of Life isn't being syndicated, or at least in my market, right now. : ( |

Stranger things have happened in regards to classic TV DVD releases. Remember Mary Tyler Moore? Just when we thought all hope for future releases was lost, here came season 5 and the rest of the series in a few months succession.
Maybe that's what's going on with "The Facts of Life". Who knows, in 2012, we might see more of Mrs. Garrett and the girls, and I'm not giving up hope. Someone was right when they said that Shout! is the best game in town and we just have to be patient. They might even be on the discussion table even as we speak. So don't be surprised if you see Season 6 announced sometime in the near future.
Just a little bit of hope for the new year.

The economy WILL rally with gusto, and everyone in our great land will have extra money to designate strictly on purchasing classic TV on DVD.....sounds good to me. Hey, so the other day, to get in the Xmas mood before I started decorating the house, I popped in the FOL Xmas expisode from Season 5 (the only Xmas episode they seem to have done in the first five seasons). I can nitpick any episode of FOL apart, but nonetheless the charm comes through and it really put me in the Christmas spirit. I know there is at least one more Xmas episode in a later season, so I really wish we could get those later seasons. Just to keep the viewing train going, I also viewed two separate Xmas episodes of GIMME A BREAK and the classic Silver Spoons Xmas episode. I wish I had a few more to add to the rotation. |

My question for Sony would be, "If you are hanging onto the George Clooney episodes for yourselves, then what are you waiting for? Are they going to wait to release them until he dies??" He won't be as hugely famous as he is right now forever, so they ought to be attempting to cash-in now. |

Music issues were a much bigger part of Seasons 6-9 than the first five years. Also, I don't recall Carsey-Werner "hoarding" first-season "Roseanne" episodes just because he was in them. |
