Why not give us your thoughts on the show that made teen angst so much fun?

I am without word. The packaging, the bonus content, this is what every MSCL fan should have. I have been watching the first dvd release forever and I must say it's so nice to get something new with so much more content. It's quite obvious that there was a lot of time and careful work put into this masterpiece. I want to thank everyone who had a part in making this, it makes me and I'm sure a lot of MSCL fans that will have this quite happy. I was a little fustrated today trying to find it, Best Buy was suppose to have a sale and they didn't have it, so I ended up finding it at another store fore like $15 more, but I had to have it today, and after watching about half of the bonus content and absolutely loving the packaging I have to say, screw the extra $15. And hey if in a few years you happen to come upon more content and you want to re-re-release this I will buy it again! Thanks so much, you have made this MSCL fan very happy. Later
P.S. The Museum of Television and Radio piece was amazing! Would have loved to have seen the uncut version but that's ok. |

Your "MSCL" set has been constantly occupying my DVD player since I bought it last Wednesday. And I've been motivated: I have been a fan of "My So-Called Life" since 1995, and shelled out for the underwhelming 2002 DVD release. Your set blows away the previous one. Nearly four hours of extras!
One of the delights of this project from the beginning is that you sought out the perspectives of the quite rational "geek" fans of this series, via the MSCL.com Website, to get ideas for potential bonus material. The panel at the Museum of TV and Radio, among other elements, was secured in part from such a suggestion. That shows a great respect for articulate, passionate admirers of such a show, and adds to your customers.
I've been delighted by the production quality on the bonus disc and episode commentaries. The audio and video are crisp, clear, and pointedly blended with effective clips from the series. Whatever persuasive techniques you used, to bring in nearly the entire original cast and creative crew to participate, are utterly potent and entirely welcomed by a vast fan audience.
How many such sets are complete enough to have 15 minutes of detailed, fascinating commentary just on the MUSIC? I'd say this is an excellent example of your thorough, fascinating approach to the material, giving every well-known and underrated aspect its deserved attention.
The episodes themselves have a stellar video and audio transfer, with the Dolby 5.1 mix being far superior to the one used on the previous release.
I noticed that you made the menu apparatus clear and unobtrusive. The chapter stops are placed at the start of each of the four acts, as well as at the opening and ending credits, making the six logical points that should exist - and removing needless menu options. (The previous release subdivided each episode into five chapters, often without much logic.) Don't think that such subtle quality efforts would ever go unnoticed!
I'm still spinning out my viewing of the bonus material - after years in the wilderness, I don't want to gorge myself too quickly at such a buffet. What I do know is that with showing this much care, you've gained a permanent customer. Thank you!

DVD isn't just our job; it's quite literally our vice. We're all fans and consumers, ourselves, so we'd be out of our minds not to go straight to the fans for their thoughts on many of our upcoming titles (you can certainly find me on more than one forum!).
Keep an eye out. We've got a lot of stuff in the pipeline. A little something for everyone, for sure. Hope to make you as happy in the future as we have in this past week or so.
Thanks, again!
Brian

Now that Touchstone has let the rights to Once and Again lapse, how about the complete series done in as quality a set as this? I'd pay big bucks for it, Relativity, and the one that did launched them all, Thirtysomething. It's the master class in TV drama, and that they aren't on DVD is a shame. This company really knows how to do it. I loved the SCTV and other sets, but this one for MSCL sets a whole new bar for excellence. You people are amazing. |

Member since: 11/21/2007 | | RE: Countdown to My So-Called Life | | Awesome job with this release of My So-Called Life!!! Most companies would say "this has been released already so Why should we license it?" I appreciate your company for taking the chance to license a 19 episode show that was already released and all the efforts that went into the extra features and packaging. To get 8 out of 9 main cast members, the composer and creators and producers to participate in special features is unheard of on any other tv season set that I own. I hope your sales are great on this set and will more than cover your costs that were involved in this project. Thanks again!! |

I'm a huge fan of the show, one of the best ever. But, we are not so lucky in France because this beautiful box set has not been released here. One release is scheduled next year. But i don't know if we'll have all this bonus and comments.
Please, is someone can tell me if the dvds contains french subtitles ?
Hard to get this info !
Thanks !

Member since: 5/28/2008 | | RE: Countdown to My So-Called Life | This was a Day 1 purchase for me when it was released. This and the Twin Peak Deinfitive Gold Box Edition came out the same day...yes, I was very broke after that week (but supremely entertained!). I had been kicking myself for missing the original release many moons ago (which promptly went out of print and went for ungodly sums on ebay...), and have to say I'm glad I waited! Shout Factory gave us a great package, with MUCH better extras than the old set.
This and Freaks and Geeks are my two all-time favorite teen angst shows, and quite frankly I think the two that always did it best. Of course, being serious quality television, they were both doomed to cancellation before even getting one full season...yet Full House went on for 7 seasons...sigh...sometimes it feels like there is no justice in the Universe.
Anyhoo, great job on bringing this true gem of a series back to DVD! I'll be hanging on to my set for a long, long time. : |
