Shout Factory Quality control on DVD is amazing.. Can you explain your process?
I want to start off by saying I BUY A LOT of Shout Factory DVD sets for the simple reason that the price and quality are amazing.

I am a person who HATES scratches on DVDs at all. Every season I have bought from Shout Factory has NEVER had a single disc scratch on the DVDs.

All of the Transformers 80's series
All of GI Joe series 80's series
Leave it to Beaver the Complete series

The list goes on and on..

How does Shout Factory keep up with such great quality control at the low prices they charge? Why cant major studios do half the job Shout Factory does?

I really commend you guys on the amazing job you do for JUST the right price on every dvd set you do :)

Thanks for the compliment.  We certainly strive to have flawless discs for you to buy!  We do a lot of QC work, prior to shipping the discs off.  Then, a week later, we receive test discs to check out.  But in the case of physical goods, I believe that compliment would actually go to the folks at SONY DADC, our manufacturer.  They manufacture the discs as well as insert them into the packaging.

Thanks, again!  And keep enjoying the series!

If this was meant to be a joke, it sure didn't make me laugh.

Funny, I seem to remember a few people used to praise us to death.  Zaxxar, you were once known for a glowing compliment or two before you were "scorned."  Don't remember folks questioning your motives.

So, yeah.  This is the internet, where if it's not negative, it can't be legit.  Do, please explain how someone complimenting us on our own forum does any good in the marketing of our products.  Really, guys.  Logic.  And a little respect.

Honestly, I've never really encountered disc scratches on new DVDs from any company, unless I was unlucky enough to get a set that had a floater in the package.

I can say that most of the time, Shout's sets have the discs firmly affixed to the hubs... sometimes, like in the case of Ironside S3 (IIRC), more than firmly fixed. And the slimcases used for most sets are great for space.

Brian, I was going through a withdrawal phase at the time. In fact, I'm still going through a withdrawal phase, and that's pretty much the whole reason why I was so upset on this forum over the past few months. I don't know if I'll ever be able to completely get around it, but lately, I have been trying not to go to extremes in spite of going through one.

I was referring to Dirk's post. I'm not sure if that was meant to be a joke, cause if it was, it sure didn't make me laugh.

My comment wasn't aimed at you, specifically, Zaxxar.  I was merely pointing out that that so many people used to be happy, so I don't understand why others--not you--would attack someone for delivering a compliment.  Seems like this forum has basically become a hub for people to come voice their displeasure over the marketplace more than our work.  Don't know why we can't all be constructive and open to discussion.  So, it's nice to see a compliment from time to time, even if that compliment has more to do with the plant than with our work on the product.

So while I let everyone voice their displeasure without jumping on them, I'd prefer if others--again, not you, Zaxxar--would allow those with positive feedback to do the same.  We'd like to keep this place an environment where people can come in and say what they like, good and bad, without being afraid of the faceless bullies hiding behind computer monitors and keyboards.

Great post Mr. Ward!

I for one am not a Shout! employee and I've tried to insert respect in my posts over time. It never ceases to amaze me how many negative posts there are over positive ones. You announce the complete series of Barney Miller and there are few positive posts about that release or discussing the show in general. What happens? Instead everyone complains how season 2 of Hazel hasn't been released.  Then when an announcement is discovered (albeit not official but some word of hope nevertheless) nobody commented on it.  Seems to me most people aren't happy unless they are miserable and faceless bullies says it all. I really doubt most of the people who say some terrible things on here would say them if they were face to face to with the people they are saying them to. Keep up the good fight as there are those of us who do support Shout! and the products you release.

I remember Brian saying in another thread that the kinds of shows that get complete series releases are ones that are "iconic" like Leave it to Beaver for example. While there's no doubt that LITB is an iconic series, I can't help but wonder if Barney Miller is iconic enough.

But really, the only negative thing I can say about SF is that they're having trouble making reasonable and realistic agreements with 20th Century Fox Television. But to be fair, it's not Shout's fault. Just about every indie that has dealt with them has had the same problem as well (VCI and Burke's Law being other examples).

However, I hope that eventually Fox will come around. I remember Warner Bros. used to be the most notorious in not wanting to license out to anyone. But look what happened last year. They gave the entire run of Max Headroom to Shout. So who knows what the future holds for Shout and Fox?

Nope not an employee of Shout Factory at all. I do however buy Thousands of DVD's and Shout Factory is the only one and I have MANY from SF that have never been scratched up at one time or another. MANY TV sets come with discs that are damaged.. Yes they play but they look like a truck ran over them. Never had that happen with SF at all which shocks me.. I am glad to see quality control and care go into a product for a more than fair price on DVDs or Blu-rays.. Its rare to see this in todays economy. Everyone wants to gouge on items, SF does not.. Thats why I am impressed.

I've gotten plenty of shout factory sets with scratched discs. Most of the sonic the hedgehog sets wouldn't keep the discs in place cause the tabs that hold them broke during shipping. But other than that I think shout has done a good job.
