Universal Releases LAW & ORDER Complete Series Set
Okay, gang.  One of the most popular series in television history.  Twenty seasons.  One hundred and four discs.  Four hundred and fifty-six episodes.  While its MSRP is $699.99, this set is currently up for pre-order at Amazon for $489.99.

Here's your chance.  You say you'll buy any complete series, no matter the length or price?  Prove it.

Gord Lacey at TVShowsOnDVD.com says fans are already complaining over the price at his site.  Even the pre-sale price.  At 20 seasons, that's just $24.50 per season!

Looking forward to seeing how well this sells.

Brian this is a very bad example.  20 seasons???? The shows people are talking about here are usually 6 seasosn or less.  thats what many people say if a show is 6 seasons they will buy complete series.  I bought Gimme a break complete series for nowhere near $400 and that show had 6 seasons.  That set was done right.

RE: Universal Releases LAW & ORDER Complete Series Set
When I saw that, I thought "Damn, that's ambitious". And it is.

I'm glad to see a release like this, I just wish it had been something a little less ambitious so there's a smaller chance of it failing, and that it was a show I, personally, was interested in.

I'd almost definitely buy it if Law and Order were a show I was interested in.

But, it isn't.

However, I hope this experiment succeeds, so that complete series collections like this become more the norm than a once in a while thing. The more affordable complete series sets of shows I did want to own, like Larry Sanders and Ally McBeal, were definite buys for me, and I was glad the shows were completely released at once so there was no "will they release another season?" waiting and wondering.

Same goes for the upcoming Barney Miller set... I hadn't gotten around to the single sets because of all the starting and stopping in releasing them, but I'm in for the complete series.

Oh, and the price is very reasonable for 20 seasons, at what is probably 6 or 7 discs per season, per set.

Yes, very bad example.

That said, I hope this experiment by Universal is successful enough that other studios take notice and release other long running shows in this manner.
