In 2010, there was a fire at CJOH-TV (the company that owns the show). My question is, are any, or all surviving masters housed there lost and gone forever because of it? |

Member since: 4/13/2009 | | RE: You can't do that on teleevision | Remember that the series was done at a time when master tapes were really expensive and it was common for stations, studios, and networks to make copies on cheaper video and then erase the masters and use them again.
And a lot of places simply destroyed tapes once they were deemed useless. Some shows were destroyed because of greed, and others out of spite (one of the Paul Winchell shows was destroyed because the owner of the tapes hated Winchell).
Sadly, a lot of what survives today of 1980's TV are recordings people made off the air onto VHS tapes. The quality is really bad and I do not know of a DVD company that would release shows of this poor quality. |
