I've been buying the sets since the day season 1 came out.  I do hope they get the rights to season 5 and release it soon.

We'll see Season 5 - we'll just have to wait and be patient.  We had to wait several years between Seasons 4 and 5 of the Mary Tyler Moore Show, but eventually that series was completed.

I just finished watching the Season Five episodes I recorded long ago on VHS. I forgot how enjoyable those episodes are. I can't wait to see them in unedited, remastered form on DVD in the near future. Maybe when Shout! Factory releases Season Five it can create a Rhoda series box set as it did with It's The Garry Shandling Show and The Larry Sanders Show. (That would also be a great opportunity to add the unedited versions of the Season One episodes and fix the end of the Season Four episode, "Five For The Road." And it would be a fantastic chance to add the "Carlton Your Doorman" animated pilot to the collection!)

I just don't understand why Fox isn't willing to give the final 13-episode season to Shout. It's not like anyone else is trying to outbid Fox, and it's not like there are any music issues holding it up. And for that record, this can apply to any other Fox shows that Shout has been supposedly trying to get more of.

It may be that Fox isn't willing to give the rights to Season Five at a price Shout! Factory is willing to offer, not that Fox has refused ANY offer. They say that sales of season sets taper off dramatically after the first season or two. Because Season Four is only available from Shout! at a significantly higher price than Season Three sets from Amazon, it stands to reason that sales of Season Four dropped off pretty sharply. The fact that Season Five is only 13 episodes may be a blessing in this regard. Shout! can sell Season Five sets at a cheaper price than Season Four and yet take in as much if not more revenue per episode if it's priced right. As a result, I don't see why Shout! can't make an acceptable offer to Fox if it really wanted to.

Well, I just hope that whatever Shout is focusing on that is making them more money than ever will be enough to pursue more seasons of lesser successful titles in the future, such as this show.

Any updates on this last season?  I can't stand that it is almost finished and no word.

Why would Fox give rights to season 1-4 and not 5?

It doesn't make a lot of sense, doesn't it?  Perhaps the rights to Season 5 simply ran out, but I can't fathom why Shout! would have sat on its hands and let a deadline like that pass by.

I have to admit, since Shout! Factory dropped the ball on Rhoda, I have essentially given up on purchasing single season sets from Shout!  I've learned my lesson: It's either a complete series, or it's nothing, as far as I'm concerned.

I dont see how they cant release the final season of Rhoda for only 13 episodes but they can dump all kinds of money into a complete series set of that dumb show Barney Miller.
