I was wonder, or wanted to inquire if Shout will ever initiate a program to offer replacement slim cases for The Legend of Zelda and the Super Mario Bros Super Show Volume 1. I believe these were the only two Mario/Zelda themed cartoons that came packaged this way. Obviously I would be willing to pay a fee and shipping to keep my entire cartoon collection level. Would others feel the same way? Does Shout Factory have any interest to invest in producing this alternative?
For chuckles, we can always remember the website Fox setup for The Simpsons.

Please Shout, please release all three volumes of Adventures of Sonic The Hedgehog. I'd be rather upset if you stopped after 2 volumes due to poor sales :(. |

And yes i would also like Vol 2 and 3 :-]

Member since: 4/9/2007 | | RE: Alternate Packaging - For The Anal Retentaveness In Us All | | yeah i mean Simpsons is the longest running tv sitcom in history, Simpsons is bigger than a lot of things on TV nowdays, certainly 1000 times moreso than mario and zelda cartoons. I can see where you are coming from, yes it sucks in my opinion that Shout switched from using digipack to slim casing a year ago when SMBSS vol 2 came out and then with captain N, to save production costs, but I would rather my dvds look mismatched than to have them all in slim cases, the COPS and Zelda digipacks were the best Shout has done in my opinion, especially COPS, but with the exception of Zelda, COPS, and Captain N, I really dont care about my copies of vol 1 and 2 of SMBSS, i mean yeah i watched it as a kid....but its too corny for me to watch now, i had trouble getting through all 52 of the episodes last year when i watched them, will probally sell them, for that matter Mario 3 wasnt much better, I hope Super mario world/captain N season 3 is better, at least its got Captain N in it. I like other people on here buy toons put out from different studios, but with Shout, unless they got the rights to MASK, fineshed COPS vol 2 &3, got the rights to GI Joe the DIC series, or got the rights to Hey Vern, Its Ernest, theres nothing else besides super mario world/Captain N season 3 that i want that Shout currently has the rights too. |

Member since: 4/9/2007 | | RE: Alternate Packaging - For The Anal Retentaveness In Us All | Ok when i say this this is in no way offensive to Shout factory......not all, but a lot of toons being put out on dvd today that are put out in slim cases are probally not the most popular, or highest selling dvds, hence put it in a cheaper to make slim case as aposed to a digipack, yes there are toons like Ducktales that are slim cases, but then again Disney is cheap and is really only in it for the money....but the majority are in digipack or regular dvds cases in a slide box. some people like slim cases some dont like me. Also, you have to think about the production costs to make these replacement slim cases, because Shout would have to produce thousands of them I bet, because i am pretty sure it is cheaper to make in bulk than it is to make a smaller batch of them, which leads to how would they sell them all? I mean I am sure there are people that look on Shouts website, but there are easily less than a hundred people on the cartoon section of these forums, and even though probally a lot of them would but them, and taking into consideration others off these forums bought some it probally would not be cost effective for Shout to produce them, especially for toons that have been released anywhere from 2 years to 1 year ago. Also, even though I didnt buy AoSTH cause i frankly cant stand it, which i respect the people who do, but B Ward has already said sales arent that good for AoSTH vol 1, and its very probable that if it didnt sell good when it first came out, then its going to continue like that, not for certain i could be wrong, but i forsee that AoSTH will not be seeing a 2nd and 3rd vol release due to poor sales, i mean look at COPS, Carmen Sandiego, etc, Shout has only put out one multi-volume toon so far and that was Super mario bros super show, i mean if they dont sell enough copies, then the stores dont want to but anymore future releases from the company(Shout) because they dont sell, Ward has already stated that....personally I dont see Sonic Underground going past one vol either, thats just my opinion.

Member since: 4/2/2007 | | RE: Alternate Packaging - For The Anal Retentaveness In Us All | Well if that is the case, which i understand why a company would make that decision. It is about the all mighty dollar and they are not in this business to make me happy. However, if that does happen, which hopefully it doesn't, then us fans and completest will have to turn our attention overseas.
You made a good point about the cases and producing stuff in bulk. Here is a production question, which I respect the opinions of others, a representative of Shout Factory will set the record straight. When producing DVD's of these cartoons, why not do the whole series at one shot. Lets take AoSTH. Volume 1 (of 3 ) has 4 discs, two slim cases. When the team was designing the menus, artwork for the cases, mastering of the shows, why not keep going. Do the whole series, 12 discs, 6 slim cases, and a 1 1/2 " wide carboard case. The show is complete on DVD and the Shout AoSTH team moves onto something else, fans will understand that the 59.99 retail price is expected for 66 episodes and 24 hours of shows. I mean do i speak for the majority when i say, fans that buy Volume 1, want the others? They just aren't going to stop or get the first and third volumes because volume 2 has crappier episodes. I look at it as their is more wasted time starting and stopping then just consistently going straight on to completion.
I still want to hold out hope, because I enjoyed AoSTH more than Sonic The Hedgehog ( he didn't call it SatAM). Use to race home from school to watch it. While I am greatful for Volume 1, and pleased by Sonic The Hedgehog, I hope to be able to complete my collection (In Region 1) and finally toss this DVDr of badly ripped AVI files. If there is hope, my one request for Shout is you allow us to skip the opening sequence preceding the menu selection.
Finger Crossed fellow fans. |

Member since: 4/9/2007 | | RE: Alternate Packaging - For The Anal Retentaveness In Us All | | I cant speak for B Ward or anyone at Shout, but I would think the reason why they dont keep going with production of a whole series like that(and why no other company does with any show really) would be because of the mentality that even all the episodes of a given series are included, the fact that the price would be triple of what a single volume costs, that it would deter customers from spending that much money at one time, whether that idea is true or not I couldnt say, but also someone correct me if i am wrong, but it is likely that companies make more money off of single vol(or season) releases than with a complete episode release...Although i know what the retail stores sell these dvds is for their profit cause Shout has already sold them to the retailer at a certain price, but even so a typical Shout dvd release of a 4-dvd set is about $25 in Best Buy for instance, if you have 3 volumes to release thats $75, if you sold a set with all the episodes it would probally have to be lower like you said at about $59.99. I just personally think its cause the companies dont think they can sell it at a higher price all at once, no matter how strong the fan base is. |
