There's nothing better than a horror movie that has a creepy host that hosts the movie, that is there with you during the proceedings. So much fun! |

I can't see a local TV Station hanging onto tapes for 30 or 40 years. Tape Wiping was a way of life back then, and major TV shows from the networks didn't escape it... so I doubt much of the local stuff escaped that dark fate.

I know Svengooli in Chicago is still current, but it'd be really cool if something on the order of Something Weird's 'Monsters Crash The Pajama Party' type DVD that culled old rare footage together. Even if it's just a few episodes from a plethora of different old vintage hosts, I think it'd be really cool. Some type of Midnite Movies line, like what MGM did a few years back. |

All of the 1980s material exists, and a good deal of the 1970s material exists. They exist because Dick Dyszel, who played Count Gore owned he rights to his character and the master tapes. In 1998 he relaunched his character online, as the "First" internet horror host, and later began distributing much (but not all) of the vintage material. Almost 40 years later he is still doing the character strong (in 2010 he won the Rondo Award for "Best Horror Host"!) - has participated in 2 books and 4 documentaries, including 2009's EVERY OTHER DAY IS HALLOWEEN, directed by me and screened at the American Film Institute, the Alamo Draft House, San Diego Comic Con and others - and is now available through Amazon.com. TONS of footage, including behind he scenes material that hasn't been seen - including his work as "Captain 20" and "Bozo" (also on Channel 20 at the same time). Unfortunately, there really isn't a lot of that footage left - almost all is in the movie - BUT, it is a good scrapbook for fans of his, fans of horror hosts, fans of the genre and era, etc.

(For the record, I think a Shout! Factory treatment on The Count is a no-brianer!) |
