PLEASE READ regarding Ren & Stimpy
Hey, since Shout has started a partnership with Nickelodeon, I thought I'd recommend a favorite of mine, Ren & Stimpy. Now, Paramount and MTV did release all of the Ren & Stimpy on DVD in the past, but many episodes were censored. See, R&S has a somewhat funny history of censorship. Many episodes were censored by Nick, but MTV and Spike TV would reinstate some of the cut scenes (as did the 2004-2005 Paramount/MTV DVD sets). But Spike TV would edit out other bits and pieces (and also add in fade-outs that annoyed some people) to add in more commercials, and some of those Spike TV edited versions were present on the DVD's. An acquaintance of mine, David "Lyris" MacKenzie, helped edit together a better insertation of cut material into the episode "Sven Hoek" (you can watch the clip at http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x1t9o4_sven-hoek-dialogue-scene_creation ) for the proposed "Ultimate Ren & Stimpy" DVD set (it was never released, I assume due to the executive shuffle that occured when Viacom and CBS separated in 2006). He also once had a list on site of all the censorship present in the Paramount/MTV R&S DVD, with the intention of hvaing them all reinstated for the Ultimate R&S DVD set. If you ever consider releasing Ren & Stimpy on DVD (which I hope you do), I highly recommend you seek him out (and also seek R&S's creator, John Kricfalusi, since he had a whole bunch of extras planned for the Ultimate R&S DVD set, including his unsold pilot "He-Hog", a few animatics to unfinished R&S episodes and a booklet).

Ren & Stimpy is the WORST cartoon ever created!

How can John Kricfalusi live with himself?

His works should be banned and burned!

How anyone stand this GARBAGE!

Both characters are GAY, VIOLENT, AND EVIL!

This should never has been seen by kids, because Ren & Stimpy are turning them into MONSTERS!

I take it you're not a fan then.

Also, there should also be releases that are aimed for kids (like how WB releases Looney Tunes Spotlight Collections). Make sure there from the Nick era and that the episodes are suitable for kids. Also get John K. on board for this. Imagine the cool stuff he could do!

Ren & Stimpy is where it is at.  They need a truly uncut release.

Different channels will show different cuts of the Ren and Stimpy episodes.

When they reaired it on Nicktoons in January, some of the episodes that were cut on the DVD were uncut there.

RE: PLEASE READ regarding Ren & Stimpy
I think that out of all the Nickelodeon shows that Shout Factory would release, Ren and Stimpy is probably going to be the most difficult show for them to get the full rights to. The reason why I say that is because B. Ward made a statement in another post that Rocko's Modern Life would have to have music issues cleared before they could get to that one. If that's the case, then I would think that Ren and Stimpy would be even harder since that shows uses even more APM and classical music. For that type of thing, Shout would probably have a field day trying to get the issues to that cleared out.

Now, I for one would love to have a better DVD release than the Paramount release. The Paramount version is nothing more than the Spike TV copies of the show with a 30 second cut spliced into the Sven Hoek episode (which is pretty obvious since the timecode sticks out and the quality is lower than the actual episode itself). Plus as mentioned before, the recent airings on Nicktoons is more uncut than Paramount versions. Yeah, for a DVD set that has the guts to slap the word "UNCUT" all over the cover, it's hardly that way at all. It'd be great if Shout does release it, yes. Once Shout Factory releases the show, then I'll probably sell my Seasons 1 and 2 DVD set just to get that DVD release if it really is more uncut than Paramount's version. But in the meantime, I can still make do with Paramount. After all, at least it's one of the few classic Nickelodeon shows that actually does have a somewhat decent release (eg. not something from Amazon.com's abysymal Createspace program.)

@thedude7: You know what's evil and often leads to violence? Intolerance. kthnx.

With that said, though, it sucks that Ren and Stimpy aren't on that list from Twitter, but that doesn't necessarily mean it won't ever come. If these other Nick sets are successful, maybe Shout could try to negotiate separately for Ren and Stimpy.

I'm more bummed out that Rugrats isn't on the list.

Hopwever, Rocco and AAAAAAH Real Monsters are there, so it's all good.

And why no Ren and Stimpy? Well, because the show has already been released on DVD, and is still in print and readily available.

Why would Shout bother to go after a show that 95% of the people who will ever want to own it have already bought it?

Sure, a very few people would like to see it released correctly, unedited and uncut, but the number of people who even know Ren and Stimpy was butchered for DVD is so small that it wouldn't even be worth it to acquire the rights to release the show, because the audience for it is probably smaller than even the lowest selling Shout Select title.

RE: PLEASE READ regarding Ren & Stimpy
In its day, Ren & Stimpy was more popular than any of the Nick toons that Shout! Factory is currently scheduled to release so far in their day.  Those shows have been released through Amazon before.  A great majority of Ren & Stimpy fans still want an uncut release.  In Transformers terms, Ren & Stimpy is like G1 Transformers while those other shows are like Beast Wars and other lesser Transformers shows.

Turns out David Mackenzie's (not quite complete) guide to the cuts on Paramount/MTV's Ren & Stimpy DVDs is still up. Go to it at http://lyris-lite.net/rs/

How would they market a truly uncut R&S DVD? "This time, we're not kidding?"

They could use  "Director's Cut", "The Ultimate Edition", or other descriptions like those.  They could put something on the back about "all the episodes released for the first time as they were truly meant to be seen."  A good marketing department could come up with something.

They could always use the box art from the never released Ultimate Ren & Stimpy set seen here (warning: animated nudity):

RE: PLEASE READ regarding Ren & Stimpy
Bumping this thread cuz I really REALLY want Shout! to release this show with all episodes restored, remastered, uncut, uncensored, and unedited (with no DVNR, no time compression transfers, and no fake fade-outs/fade-ins) with old and new extras all under the supervision of John K. If you have to release these in 3 individual box sets, that's fine.

Bumping this thread becuase while Mr. Ward is still here on forums, I need to know if Shout! still has plans for new Ren and Stimpy releases and  have they tried to contact John K. about the idea (and also asking him to fully supervise the sets)? If not, could you try for this year? Please respond ASAP Mr. Ward and many many thanks.

I just joined this Facebook page:

Shout Factory should release The Ren and Stimpy Ultimate Set.

And here's the archived version of David Mackenzie guide to edits made to Paramount's Ren & Stimpy DVDs.
