Marcus Welby M.D. Season 3
Just finished season 2 of this great show.  Any word on the time frame for season 3?

I've asked too but no response was given. I'm afraid this one has been added to the list of "stalled" shows for now.

I've honestly not heard anything on the status of this one, which doesn't always bode poorly, but certainly means that we're not working on it right now.

Thanks for the update Brian.  I really hope the remaining season do come though as it is the later ones that I remember seeing as a child.

I've been anxiously awaiting Season 3 of Marcus Welby. I think I have watched both Seasons 1 and 2 about 3 times already.  Any word on this?  I especially thought the later seasons were excellent and can't wait until it's their turn to be released.

Not only that (quality of the entire set in China) but the Welby set isn't truly "entire". I, unfortunately, got sucked into one of them and 35 episodes were missing. To be fair, the seller did refund nearly half the cost but that didn't really make up for the missing material.  Supposedly, there are complete (173 eps) sets available but they are hard to find.

Hi,

I purchased Marcus Welby recorded from the TV from 2 different sellers.  Combined, I am now only missing 5 episodes.  Do you have any other these episodes that you want to trade with?  Desperately awaiting the official DVDs to come out so I can throw out the bootleg versions, which I've already done for Season 1 and 2.

3-08, Don't Phase Me Out
3-10, The Best is Yet to Be
3-14, Cross-Match
5-25, Designs
7-13, The One Face in the World
7-14, Go Ahead and Cry

Shout Factory, please release future seasons of Marcus Welby.  Don't let fans of the show go purchase bootlegs.  I watched Seasons 1 and 2, got hooked onto it, and went out looking for the entire series to watch.

I was so happy when Marcus Welby finally started being releases and have been waiting and waiting for season 3. I hope this is not another case of Peyton Place, tease us with the first two seasons and then stop.

RE: Marcus Welby M.D. Season 3

It seems as though its heading in that direction. It's a sad state the world of dvds is in. All of this new stuff that can be seen on tv is out there and the stuff we can't see in reruns is never made available.

It's not Shout's fault but I'm afraid the costs of licensing are probably enormous (which doesn't make any sense at all) and the studios don't make it easy. For Shout to recouperate their fees, they would need to sell a bundle. If the sales don't continue, then it's not viable for them to continue licensing the next season.

I think what really needs to be asked is "why are studios putting such huge licensing price tags on these shows?" It seems that they want them to stay in the vault because, obviously, smaller independent dvd companies can't afford them so what makes them think anyone will shell out the costs??

This baffles me as well.  Welby isn't being aired anywhere, so why not cut the price so they can put out the show and bring in new fans?  Hell, by the time we get to the really weird episodes, Robert Young may have a new fan base!

The studios are so short-sighted that it staggers the imagination.

I hope that the third season of Marcus Welby is released at some point. Since they took the show off of Retro Television Network, the DVDs are all I've got. Frankly, I'm bored with the first two seasons. Gotta see some of the later years.

These executives may well have deduced that most of the old shows out there are of a quality that blows todays stuff out of the water, IMO.  I won't even watch the garbage on TV today.  Every retro dvd set they put out competes for the TV viewing time of the average viewer out there--they can't focus on the superior character and plot development evidenced in older shows while being distracted by some moron making a fool of himself on the latest reality show.

It's not looking good for the good M.D., I'm afraid.  No plans for the third season, as of now.

You'd think the title could have at least gotten one crack at Select if it wasn't doing well retail.

I am sad they are not releasing future seasons of Marcus Welby.  I am a rather newish fan (at 28 years old) and find this show having a special quality in it that is no longer available in today's current shows.

I have purchased bootleg versions of all future seasons from ioffer but was really looking forward to collecting the official dvds :(   Why are you letting bootleggers make the money?  It's wrong, but this is the only way for me to watch the episodes.

I agree, the distributors are just killing their own business.  As this happens more and more no one is going to take the chance at season one when the others may not follow.

I feel exactly the same way about "Hart to Hart," one of the favorites of my youth. The first two seasons were excellent, and I've been hoping against hope for the others. One of these days...

I have never understood this mentality. By "take a chance" on S1--you mean actually buying it--and that's the only way subsequent seasons are released--if consumers buy them. These people who plan on waiting until an entire 7-seasons series is released to buy any DVDs have no idea how the business works.

If you had Retro, why didn't you just record the show off of there to DVD yourself instead of hoping someone else does it for you?

Unfortunate to hear that the series is unlikely to continue, but I wonder if the wave of the future is complete series releases.  I already pre-ordered Barney Miller on Amazon and I wonder if maybe, in some way, the next route to getting these shows on DVD is to just put out a complete set and hope it sells.  I know Time Life has done that with a few shows...but then again, they don't put out that much TV to begin with.

Is there any chance for Shout Select in this particular case?

I brought from 2 different sellers, but I don't have their names.  The first I brought from was one of the cheapest, and after going through that, I wrote down the episodes that were missing in that set and then just brought the discs with those missing episodes from another seller (the 2nd seller lists the disc & episode on their selling page).  Neither seller has has the complete full series.  Quality is like TV recording quality.  Some had commercials cut, and some came with commercials..  I wasn’t picky in that respect because this is a very old show and also because this is the only way I would be able to watch the episodes at all.

It seems to me that if sales of this were underwhelming as a retail, then isn't a title like this *precisely* the reason why the whole "Select" program was created to begin with?    I could understand a total stall-out if sales through Select underwhelmed, but why not give the show a try that way to see if there really isn't enough interest level.

Paper Chase though, being a Fox title, presents other problems.
