Member since: 1/12/2007 | | Sam & Max: Freelance Police!!! | I've mentioned it in a few posts on the forum, but I thought I would make a new thread for it now. Up until now, my all-time favorite set has been Sonic The Hedgehog: The Complete Series. While producing it, I would even openly refer to it as "my swan song", believing I could never top it. I was wrong. We're doing topping it right now with the upcoming Sam & Max: Freelance Police!!! 3-disc set.
Sam & Max are two twisted, but lovable, detectives (Sam, a dog in a suit and fedora, and Max, a naked rabbit) who are constantly getting into all kinds of trouble while investigating the...well...downright weird. The humor is totally Adult Swim-ish; irreverently hysterical!
The characters originated as an underground B&W comic and reached a mainstream popularity when George Lucas' video game company, LucasArts, released the PC-based Sam & Max Hit the Road in 1993 (the Mac version was released in '95). The game was a hit and led to another incarnation of the characters: this animated series, produced for FOX Kids in '97, I believe. The series lasted 13 episodes (24 cartoons). Over the past couple of years, LucasArts began work on and then abandoned the sequel to the original video game for unspecified reasons and a new company (created by former LucasArts employees), Telltale Games, eventually picked up the license. Now, they've finished a full "season" of mini Sam & Max games that are available each month via their site: http://telltalegames.com/samandmax/.
While attending this year's International Comic-Con in San Diego, the set's producer, Frank Mohler, and I shot a brand new interview with Sam & Max creator Steve Purcell as well as an interview with the guys behind Telltale Games. Steve's interview is all but done being cut and I couldn't be happier. It is absolutely AWESOME. We're working on the Telltale interview now.
We're currently hoping to get together with Telltale to score some additional bonus material, as well.
Seriously, we're several months away from the release date for this set and it's already become my favorite project. And each day is looking brighter and brighter.
If you're a Sam & Max fan, you're gonna love this set. If you're not, you soon will be.
Brian

And I started a thread of Sam & Max, myself, and I for one have this to say to Brian Ward: THANKS, GEEK! |

Also, besides the 24 episodes, there were 3 shorts that aired inbetween some of the episodes. These are gonna make it on the set aswell right? |

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: Sam & Max: Freelance Police!!! | Sam & Max: Freelance Police!!! is a kids' show in the same way Home Movies might have been: it's an animated series that was suitable for kids, but was really written more for the adults who'd get the humor. It's not for everyone, but I think it's better than most anything I've worked on in my DVD career.
As for the shorts, we're in the process of figuring this out. There's a lot of buzz on the internet about shorts and un-aired episodes. When we interviewed Steve Purcell, he came right out and said that EVERY episode that was produced aired and didn't know anything about the shorts of which you speak. Not sure what to do... We're still looking into it, though.

Member since: 6/11/2007 | | RE: Sam & Max: Freelance Police!!! | The shorts did air but like I said inbetween the two cartoons in the episode. There were three: Artsy Craftsy Bit of Time Wasting Nonsense, Vice Squad, and Our Bewildering Universe (not to be confused with the flash short online Steve did (Which I think would make a great bonus on the set))
I believe all of the shorts are on gametap with the rest of the episodes of Freelance Police.
Oh and there is one of them on google video here for a quick example of what I'm talking about.

Good news on the shorts front... We're in the process of tracking 'em down. If everything goes according to plan, we'll have them included with the bonus material we already have planned. It's still in the "maybe" stage, but things are looking up.
Thanks for the info, guys!

Member since: 1/12/2007 | | RE: Sam & Max: Freelance Police!!! | We've just secured the French language tracks for Sam & Max: Freelance Police!!! The Complete Series from Nelvana. Don't know about you, but I'm pretty jazzed about hearing Max exclaiming "Death from above!" in French.
EDIT: Apparently, I spoke too soon. I've just been informed that we do not have the French language tracks, after all.
But on the good side, we've reached out to creator Steve Purcell to illustrate the package. No word back, yet, but he is a very busy man, so we'll give it a little time.
I'll keep you informed.

As for the good news of the day, we're expecting our first look at a few thumbnail sketches of concepts for the packaging, provided by Mr. Steve Purcell, later today. Can't even begin to tell you how my heart's a'racin' with anticipation.

We've also just confirmed that an exclusive sticker will be included with Sam & Max: Freelance Police!!! The Complete Series.
Expected to see the final illustrations for the packaging, done by Steve Purcell himself, shortly. Woo-hoo!!

We shipped off the master DLTs from which the discs will be pressed this morning and the artwork shipped last Friday.
Expect it to hit stores (both retail and internet) in March with an SRP of $29.99. It's three discs, the first of which will contain the 13 episodes and the last disc will be the bonus disc containing:
A COMIC-CONversation With Steve Purcell!!!
3 Animated Shorts Originally Seen on FOX Kids
Sam & Max: Our Bewildering Universe - An original short written and co-directed by Steve Purcell
Telling The Tale Of Telltale Games - A look at Telltale Games with co-founder Dan Connors, design director Dave Grossman and technical artist Daniel Herrera
Sam & Max: Ice Station Santa Playable Demo by Telltale Games
Original Series Bible by Steve Purcell
Original Concept Art Gallery
The slipcase will also have that exclusive sticker.
Thanks for all your help. It's been a blast. I'll definitely still be around up through the release, in case there are any questions or comments.
And with that: Done and...done.
