More DiC sets?
Are there any DiC box sets planned for release from now until the end of 2007?

Only things I can think of is Super Mario World and Sonic Underground Volume 1, but Shout may move to the Nelvana stuff (Sam and Max). I personally don't think that there's much left that Shout can release from the DiC library (either Smore or Fox have the other rights or rights issues like MASK) and the other possible releases (COPS Vol 2) are sunk due to low sales but you never know.

Shout needs to look into the DIC GI Joe series, i highly doubt they could acquire rights to the Sunbow GI Joe series, but then again Rhino had them, and didnt some people that started Rhino or at least worked their start Shout Factory?

Ward has already tried getting the rights to MASK,(i have a decent complete bootleg set), I'm sure he couldnt get The real Ghostbusters away from Columbia, the rest of COPS, i mean some of the best cartoons like He-man, Thundercats, She-ra Ducktales real classic 80's stuff is being put out, but its a shame other 80's classics havent been put out like the aforementioned.

B Ward,

hahahha what about Beetlejuice the animated series? DIC doesnt own the rights......is Shout ever going to branch out from DIC catalogs? Cause with some exeptions the toons in the DIC catalog are kinda running low.

RE: More DiC sets?
Speaking of the DIC catalog running low, out of every toon Shout has released, my favorite sets were the very first ones to be released which were Zelda animated series and COPS, I mean yeah i bought SMBSS which is kinda corny although i watched it as a kid, and Super Mario 3, and will buy Super mario world/captain N season 3 when it comes out. I also bought SatAM (but not AOSTH, cant stand that) and also bought Captain N which was better in my opinion than any of the mario cartoons. Its just after Super mario world/captain N season 3, I dont know what else I would buy that Shout would put out on dvd, unless they branched out or acquired those up in the air rights to toons like GI Joe, real ghostbusters, MASK. In my own opinion and i dont mean this in any way offensive to B Ward cause he has stated that he prefers digi-pack dvd cases, but since Shout in the last year has turned to putting everything in slim case dvd's I actually would wish that BCI would put out GI Joe, the real ghostbusters, and MASK because they put out really, really nice looking dvd digipacks, just look at he-man, she-ra, D&D, etc. Cause toons like GI Joe, real Ghostbusters, MASK, ESPECAILLY GI JOE!!! do not deserve to be given the shaft by putting them in slim case dvd's which would be a travesty

RE: More DiC sets?
We do have some more DiC projects up our sleeves, including the first volume of Jayce & The Wheeled Warriors and the complete series of Stargate: Infinity, which I hope to release in conjunction with the upcoming Stargate: SG-1 DTV movies.  Those are both tentatively slated for '08.

As for this year, we'll be concluding our DiC line with the release of Sonic Underground in December.  This set's shaping up to be quite the package, including 20 episodes over three DVDs, original concept art, animated storyboards of the opening title sequence, the ability to play the music videos separately, brand-spankin'-new interviews with Executive Producer (and theme song writer) Robby London and original song writer Mike "Pic" Piccirillo, and a CD soundtrack with no fewer than EIGHT of Sonic Underground's Greatest Hits.  How could you possibly go wrong?!

As for branching out beyond DiC, we've definitely done that.  In fact, I'm currently supervising the production of a set that could very well become my new all-time favorite in Nelvana's Sam & Max: Freelance Police!!!  For those not in the know, this 13-episode (24 separate cartoons) is based on the irreverent underground comic that was made insanely popular back in 1993 ('95 for Macs) when LucasArts released their Sam & Max Hit the Road videogame.  So far, we've managed to put together a brand new interview with creator Steve Purcell (which we shot at his booth at this year's San Diego International Comic-Con), a focus on the new internet-based videogames by Telltale Games, and more!  Seriously, guys... Even if you're not fans of Sam & Max: Freelance Police!!! already, you're gonna want to buy this set.  I promise you that you won't regret it.

We've got more from Nelvana coming your way, plus a couple of animated series from another company that I don't wanna announce just yet.  But they're pretty great titles that play more for contemporary anime fans and less on nostalgia.

Enjoy, guys!

Brian

I sure do hope you release the rest of the COPS series on DVD real soon. I got to tell you, my petition now has 146 signatures and still growing slowly but surely. I've also created some animated buttons for people to put on their blogs and sites to help spread the word about my petition, too. Feel free to check them out.

I've helped by pushing that petition on Shouts forum too.....If Shout could make the last 2 boxsets of COPS in digipack the way the first was so nicely and colorfully done, i would probally pay upwards of $50 a boxset, for each. I need the rest of COPS, push come to shove i can always look for a bootleg set.

one of the toons people on this forum have been talking about lately was Sam and Max, I had never heard of it, but then again a lot of toons on here that people talk about i have never heard of or vaguely recall, cause i grew up in the 80's(i'm and 80's toon person) and stopped watching toons in '92 or '93, but i just did a wikipedia search on it and found it, says it ran from 1997-98, thats why I've never heard of it, cause i was in 9th and 10th grade when it came out.

I just looked on Nelvana's website and at their toon catalog, everything on there is from the 90's into the 2000's, theres nothing Nelvana has that I want or would even want, does Shout have any other licensing deals with any other companies other than DIC and Nelvana as far as cartoons go? I wish Shout could get hold of that 12 or 13 episode run of the Robocop animated series than ran back in 1988, thats was a good cartoon, it was shirt lived but it was good. I'm sure the company that owns the Robocop franchise owns the toons rights but what are the chances of Shout getting the rights?

Something just crossed my mind, Shout has plans to release Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors in 2008 correct? Any the toon ran for about what 65 episodes i think i remeber seeing, ok I grew up in the 80's and i vaguely remeber this show, I never really watched it, but I want to make a comparison.....COPS was 65 or 66 episodes too right......in my opinion and I would think others would share this opinion, but COPS had to have been way more popular than Jayce and the wheeled warriors, maybe i'm wrong, but i mean COPS wasnt something like GI JOE or MASK, but COPS had its own toy-line, if COPS didnt sell good on vol.1 , then why would Jayce and the Wheeled warriors sell any better, i mean all i'm saying is if its 65 or so episodes Shout would probally have to put it out in what 3 box sets? the same they would have done with COPS....they'd have to have a strong fan-base to sell 3 vols of Jayce.....its just my opinion maybe i'm wrong but I dont see how it would see any better than COPS did, I would much rather see them finesh the COPS series out.

RE: More DiC sets?
In its prime, Jayce & The Wheeled Warriors was as popular as M.A.S.K.  It's one we get a lot of requests for-- and for good reason--, so we've decided to meet that demand.  Again, though, because it's such a long-running series, we run the risk of not selling enough of the first volume to justify releasing the complete series.  I highly encourage people to pick this one up.  It's totally worth it.  Great story!

As for Sam & Max: Freelance Police!!!, this is the kind of show that someone like Spike TV, G4, or Cartoon Network would LOVE today.  Its humor is totally up Adult Swim's alley.  I love it and absolutely can't wait to get the final product so that I can educate everyone I know on the brilliance that is Sam & Max: Freelance Police!!!  Anyone who hasn't seen it, should.  And anyone who hasn't played the video games, absolutely should.  Especially the ones over at telltalegames.com/samandmax/.

Just wait.  You'll see...

It's be nice if someone put out The Pirates of Dark Water on dvd, true the show was cancelled before they found all the "treasures" but that doesnt matter, some fans years ago have taken to making nice bootleg copies of it, i think the show was cancelled at 21 episodes.

What about another volume of DIC's Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats since there was one in 2005.

I also wish Shout! Factory gets the rights with American Greetings to release the Get Along Gang DIC series on DVD in 2008-2009.

Sadly, we don't own the rights to future volumes of Heathcliff & The Catillac Cats.

We did sublicense Get Along Gang out to our good friends over at S'more Entertainment, but apparently, there were some last-minute rights issues, so that's been officially removed from everyone's schedules.  Doesn't look like we'll be able to release it, after all.  At least not now.

You will, however, be able to check out S'more Entertainment's treatment of the classic The Littles, which is shaping up to be an amazing set.  I'm very excited to see the final product.

Maybe S'more Entertainment could do another DVD set of more Heathcliff and the Catillac Cats episodes by 2008 (S'more Entertainment - seperate and different from Shout! Factory? - is releasing soon on DVD DIC's The Littles, maybe Shout! Factory by 2008-2009 could get the DIC Get Along Gang DVD rights).

I even suggested these other DIC cartoons to be released on DVD: Dinosaucers, Beverly Hills Teens, Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n Wrestling, and the remaining episodes of the DIC ALF/ALF Tales cartoons Lionsgate wouldn't release.

While S'more Entertainment is separate from Shout! Factory, they're sublicensing The Littles from us, meaning we had the rights and gave them to S'more to create the DVDs.  They were also working on Get Along Gang until we were all told there was some kind of legal issue surrounding it.

Hulk Hogan's Rock 'n Wrestling is not available.  Two different people co-own those rights and they're both hoping to acquire the other's half so that they can release it on their own.

Out of everything Shout currently has the rights to, COPS is what I wish they would put out the most, the later 2 vols that is, I wish there was a way Shout could make less copies of vol 2 and 3 and put them out, instead of having to fill a 15,000 copy in  the first year quota, I am a marine biologist so I have no business sense but my brother who is in business tells me that it probally is cheaper to make more copies of a dvd, in bulk so to speak, than it is to make fewer copies....either way my COPS vol. 1 is lonely on the shelf

Do not get the right to Knights Of The Zodiac That show basically is a Comedy version of The Anime Saint Seiya! I've seen episodes The blood is different colors like they are leaking Gatorade instead of Blood and they edit clips together making it look like no one dies, Plus they use the word Dude alot It's like watching TMNT with Humans instead of Turtles. This series is extremely Dumb I prefer the Original SS anyday plus the series was never finished all it had was 56 episodes. I'd Rather See Battletoads and Double Dragon. on DVD

Right now, I'd say the odds are very slim, since we've never even approached the subject.  Not that we couldn't, though.

As for Sherlock Holmes..., it is possible.  But I'm not entirely sure if the fan base is there to warrant its release.  The single discs that have already been released didn't do well.  This might be for the same reasons the Inspector Gadget and Super Mario Bros. single-disc releases didn't do well.  Don't know.  But it's not a show with which I'm familiar, so it's hard for me to justify working on it.  Especially if a show I thought was popular-- like C.O.P.S.: The Animated Series-- didn't sell up to expectations.

Was Sherlock a hit, anyone?

I remember watching Sherlock.  It was an interesting twist on the classic.  Sherlock Holmes was brought back to life in the 20th century and took on missions in space and in a new techno advanced London, with a robotic Winston.  In fact there were only 26 episodes, so you might be able to fit all of them onto one set.

I really can't say much for popularity, but I pretty sure I remember reading that it at least won an Emmy (but don't quote on this) if that accounts for anything.

Oh, and what about Ulysses 31 (I know I asked that earlier, but didn't see a reply)?
